Sorry Conch but imo JC is at best a competent drummist. I'd love to see Joe use someone like Omar Hakim, there are some really talented drummers out there but Joe has stuck by his friend.

Two Shay - joe played with a lot of good quality drummers. for example in his joe satriani album, manu katche did well contribituons on some songs(home, moroccan sunset etc...)but in some songs, joe didn't want him to play(there is a long video which shows the process of making joe satriani album on youtube, its name is REEL SATRIANI). for example jimi hendrix gave freedom to his drummer about playing. but he was harsh against the bass player. i think joe wants his drummer to play thinking about the song^s composition. drummer shouldn't spoil the composition, according to him. that's why jeff campitelli is a good choice of his compositional system. jeff catches what joe's thinking. an another little exampe. lars ulrich is not a super drummer but with him metallica composed great songs. he served well as a musician.
on the other hand i wonder how marco minnemann will perform on joe's songs. will we hear some different touchings on the drum set? how much will joe let his freedom of playing?

Toosh, I've been saying it for years now that with every tour Jeff gets better and better. He's improved by leaps and bounds in his live shows, and even makes the old songs sound better. Like netknight said, Joe & Jeff have the same rock vibe and work well together. If Joe felt he needed a different sound, I'm sure he'd find someone to fit it. I got nothing bad to say about Jeff's playing with Joe. He does what he does very well. Joe has a reason he picks his band the way he does, and I don't think he picks Jeff just because of their friendship.

OK, i'll agree Jeff has improved a bit. Yes indeed he does the necessary and provides the beat so Joe can do his thing. But, personally, I look for a skinsman who can challenge and inspire someone such as Joe. For example, Pick Withers was a brilliant drummer for earlier Dire Straits then we got the JC type bog standard drumming. Cue Omar Hakim and Knopfler produced his biggest DS hit. Sorry but imo Joe could have eclipsed Hendrix if he'd gone with people who challenged him instead of made him look good. And don't get me wrong I wouldn't be here if I didn't think Joe was an amazing guitarist.

Two Shay - ok, i really understood what you mean. maybe minnemann will inspire him and joe will offer him to play in his next album. that would be awesome. but in past years jonathan mover had left joe satriani because he wanted to do some progressive works. joe's an awesome guitarist but his playing style is not like guthrie govan's or greg howe's or petrucci's. that's why greg played with dennis chambers, guthrie played with minnemann, petrucci played with portnoy, even steve vai played with mike mangini and terry bozzio. but satch played with greg bissonette in the extremist album, because he wanted a solid rock sound. can you see the difference, i think joe doesn't prefer super, fantastic drummers in his music. steve is crazy so he chooses crazy drummers as he picks virtuoso bass players, violinists etc...
but on the other hand, i totally agree with you. as a listener i prefer marco or another fantastic drummer to jc but i understand why joe picks jc for the drums. a great drummer can get satch's music richer, can get some new and delicious tastes for his music.

netknight - Your last paragraph is pretty much what i'm trying to say. On one hand it's cool that Joe has followed his own path without exceptional supporting musicians to distract him but I feel that with a little careful selection he could have been a megastar. Now onto Chickenfoot, they would be so much better if Joe didn't save his best stuff for solo projects.

Hi Joe
Just wanted to say thanks for all the awesome music over the years!! I've been a long-time fan like many others.
I don't know if this has come up before, but I'd love to see a G3 tour with yourself (of course) Vai and Marco Sfogli. I think a show with with three of the most expressive guitar players on the planet would be absolutely phenomenal!
Thanks again!

Joe,
Our son is a real fan of you.
Last year he played" surfing with the alien" at his endexam music at highschool.
see
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmQ3JY6Dyrs.
He failed for his endexam highschool and is doing it again now.
This yaer he wants to play "crying "at his exam misic.
He is looking for a real good backingtrack of this number.
Do you know where to find it ???
P.S.
He never had any guitar lesson, he learned it on his own,
just listen, look, and play.
please your reaction where to find a good backing track of "crying"
Thanks anyway for your guitarplaying and being a example for our son.
