REEL Satriani (1995) Joe

I just realizes that you had very difficult with interacting with your manager/ producer along with 1 or 2 band members when you were making a 1995 self-title record ..Personally, I feel most musicians go though this all the time, there alway something that get in the way sometimes , but you made it thru , I don't know what is it like now , compare back then with your old band members and your set of team management /producers back in early 90s

Please tell us about this if you are permit to do so

Hey all... just got the Live in Paris... all I can say is that that show sounded great... and I have to mention that bass solo... well, thanks again, and, as always, phenomenal. Also, anyone have ideas on how to improvise with one chord?

Wow Turbo...gr8 observation..i guess it wouldn't sound like one of his songs then.....too generic of a name!

Epiphone...Rhythmically! and breaking the chord down with different voicings.

Axe: I see where you're coming from there, but I just don't see where Ice 9 makes much sense, at least not to me.. I just thought Overdriver had a nice ring to it! All of Joe's other pedals have such fitting names and then there's this one. Although if we are going with song names I think The Soul of Distortion would have been a good one for the Satchurator.

Whatever, just a crazy observation, I'm not even here.

@axeshredderjc and turbo236- I don't know if you guys have forgotten, but Overdriver is the name of one of Joe's songs. It actually wouldn't be a bad idea, becuase I see what you are saying. Does the song Ice 9 really have a stronger overdrive sound or a stronger gain sound??? Maybe he just wanted a cool color scheme and threw in the name Ice 9. Voxampsforever told me on Youtube that you can't really see it but, the white paint on the pedal is actually metallic, so there is a bit of a shine to it. Now THAT is really cool.

Doesn't the son Ice 9 have some fictional meaning or some story about a special chemical agent or something? i remember hearing Joe explaining the meaning of the term Ice 9 some time ago but can't remember it fully...

I don't think the pedal is named after the tone or anything from the song...

The colour scheme of the pedal rocks, name suits and it sounds like its going to be a damn nice overdrive with nice features

@Blue_Moon-Yeah. Ice 9 is from Kurt Vonnegut's book called Cat's Cradle. It is a crystal that turns liquid water into ice that stays solid at room temperature. Therefore it turns into "Ice-nine" itself. And when that ice-nine touches any other source of water, it also freezes. It has similar characteristics to a spreading virus.

Yeah, well Overdriver IS a generic name, and wouldn't look as good if it was metallic black. Not naming it that was probably a good idea. I think he sticking to the names of his songs that are more original and unique.

well you could argue that Ice 9 isnt original but as blue moon proves most dont know that. now Joe needs to release a pedalboard that will hold these monster pedals....funny how for years we wanted pedals by Joe...now they are here!

Of course I know, I LOVE Overdriver! I guess that's probably why it popped into my head as a good name for Joe's overdrive pedal. It doesn't matter anyway, I'm sure they've already produced several thousand of them with the name Ice 9 on it and it isn't getting changed!

I guess if you take Ice 9 from the context of Cat's Cradle and then look at a picture of the actual pedal it looks like something that generates chilling notes that have a higher melting point than those not generated by the Ice 9? I mean it does look kind of icy; like if you touch it your hand would freeze to it.

The problem with that is most people probably have no idea that Joe's song is a reference to Cat's Cradle.... Speaking of meds, I should go take mine, I'm confusing myself.

Ian

Edit- The best argument that I can think of for naming it the Overdriver is that those people who buy the pedal that don't know Joe has a song by that name would be compelled to figure out why the hell he simply named it "Overdriver", and then discover PSATMOR, which IMO is a good thing.

Whatever, he could have called it The Extemist, Mind Storm, One Big Rush, Attack, Crushing Day.... The list goes on. As long as the pedal kicks ass that's all that matters, even if he would have named it The Piece of Liquid....

mornin all! a quick drive by for me before i go bail out my sisters basement. the rain finally stopped here this a.m. we got the worse flooding EVER! we went past the records for the 100 year floods. got rivers 20 feet above flood stage. route 95 north and south shut down. highways and roads closed everywhere. hell they used to call RI the ocean state but now it looks like one giant lake! we even made the national news. a lot of people have lost everything, house, car, everything in the house, it's unbelievable. we got 10 inches of rain in a little more than 24 hours and 17 inches in just the last two weeks! i feel like sponge bob! i've always said that mother nature always seems to balance herself out when somethings out of whack, maybe this and all the snow this year is her way of keeping global warming in check. well gettin on the rubber boots, grabbin a squeegie, the wet vac and gonna try to get my sisters basement dry again. stay dry everybody!!! lol

Don1963, good luck to your sister and you with that.

She might want to consider moving into a boat. Just trying to make light of a stressful situation. Where does she live?
