Doesn't the son Ice 9 have some fictional meaning or some story about a special chemical agent or something? i remember hearing Joe explaining the meaning of the term Ice 9 some time ago but can't remember it fully...

I don't think the pedal is named after the tone or anything from the song...

The colour scheme of the pedal rocks, name suits and it sounds like its going to be a damn nice overdrive with nice features

@Blue_Moon-Yeah. Ice 9 is from Kurt Vonnegut's book called Cat's Cradle. It is a crystal that turns liquid water into ice that stays solid at room temperature. Therefore it turns into "Ice-nine" itself. And when that ice-nine touches any other source of water, it also freezes. It has similar characteristics to a spreading virus.

oxley- i know Joe has a song by that name but those who dont know would just think its a generic name...Overdriver....theres probably pedals out there with that name already..but as far as the song goes...thats no overdriver..lol

Yeah, well Overdriver IS a generic name, and wouldn't look as good if it was metallic black. Not naming it that was probably a good idea. I think he sticking to the names of his songs that are more original and unique.

well you could argue that Ice 9 isnt original but as blue moon proves most dont know that. now Joe needs to release a pedalboard that will hold these monster pedals....funny how for years we wanted pedals by Joe...now they are here!

Of course I know, I LOVE Overdriver! I guess that's probably why it popped into my head as a good name for Joe's overdrive pedal. It doesn't matter anyway, I'm sure they've already produced several thousand of them with the name Ice 9 on it and it isn't getting changed!

I guess if you take Ice 9 from the context of Cat's Cradle and then look at a picture of the actual pedal it looks like something that generates chilling notes that have a higher melting point than those not generated by the Ice 9? I mean it does look kind of icy; like if you touch it your hand would freeze to it.

The problem with that is most people probably have no idea that Joe's song is a reference to Cat's Cradle.... Speaking of meds, I should go take mine, I'm confusing myself.

Ian

Edit- The best argument that I can think of for naming it the Overdriver is that those people who buy the pedal that don't know Joe has a song by that name would be compelled to figure out why the hell he simply named it "Overdriver", and then discover PSATMOR, which IMO is a good thing.

Whatever, he could have called it The Extemist, Mind Storm, One Big Rush, Attack, Crushing Day.... The list goes on. As long as the pedal kicks ass that's all that matters, even if he would have named it The Piece of Liquid....

mornin all! a quick drive by for me before i go bail out my sisters basement. the rain finally stopped here this a.m. we got the worse flooding EVER! we went past the records for the 100 year floods. got rivers 20 feet above flood stage. route 95 north and south shut down. highways and roads closed everywhere. hell they used to call RI the ocean state but now it looks like one giant lake! we even made the national news. a lot of people have lost everything, house, car, everything in the house, it's unbelievable. we got 10 inches of rain in a little more than 24 hours and 17 inches in just the last two weeks! i feel like sponge bob! i've always said that mother nature always seems to balance herself out when somethings out of whack, maybe this and all the snow this year is her way of keeping global warming in check. well gettin on the rubber boots, grabbin a squeegie, the wet vac and gonna try to get my sisters basement dry again. stay dry everybody!!! lol

Don1963, good luck to your sister and you with that.

She might want to consider moving into a boat. Just trying to make light of a stressful situation. Where does she live?

Ahh, it's long time since I should have posted so I was wondering how you all were, "Do the stu", "michelle", it would be nice to hear from everyone again. Also, I heard that Joe had caught laryngitis on tour, best wishes to him and I hope he's feeling better now!

Don, I was just reading the article about Rhode Island to my hubs yesterday. You peeps got slammed! It rained here Mon & Tues with Tues being the day with more wind and stronger rain. I saw pics, and it isn't pretty. Hoping the best for your sis. Hope you and Dar are okay too.

Hi Bob, how the hell are ya?

Wonder when we're going to get back just Joe? He's starting with CF in April. Maybe while that pot is cooking, he'll do a Joe tour? That's a lot to ask though. Just thinking out loud...silently...on the keyboard...

I need coffee.

New guitarist in Chickenfoot? Why would we want that? Or are you just saying it would be cool to pick up a rhythm guitarist?

Douche...now there's a word you just don't hear enough anymore! lolllll.

I thought I read somewhere that the Chili Peppers picked up a new guitar player? Did that not work out for them?

It looks like the guys are in full-on Chickenfoot mode, and I think that's great. A few months ago it sounded like Joe's next release was going to be a solo album...maybe that's because Sammy thought he would be on the solo tour that he mentioned in the interview that was just posted?

I miss solo Joe, but from Sammy's point of view I'd rather have Chickenfoot instead of another tour with the same Sammy stuff...so I think this is for the best. On my wishlist for the next Chickenfoot album is more songs written as a band and Sammy playing rhythm guitar. I'm not sure if either thing will happen, but we'll see...

BobCliffe - Yeah, Joe had laryngitis for a while...we've heard him talk onstage in YouTube videos since then, though, so I think he's doing OK now.

Welcome back, by the way...what have you been up to lately?

hybes - I think mikesb is saying he wants another guitarist in Chickenfoot so Joe can go back to solo Satch.

...Austin...

Do The Stu: Austin, I agree with you on that one. It would be nice if Sammy did play some rhythm guitar and have more songs. I am kind of hoping for another Joe solo, but if it's another Chickenfoot album, that's cool. Looking forward to whatever comes next. BTW, hope all is going well for you.

BobCliffe: Welcome and how are you?

Off to the library and then running group.

Do the Stu - I see the point about solo Joe. I miss solo Joe too. It's hard as a fan when you want both, but reality can only give you one. For me at this moment, I want another Chickenfoot album. I think they just scratched the surface of potential on the first one. I think if everyone's schedules remain open for a while, they can really spread their wings and open up. Sammy on rhythm would be perfect. It would just add a whole new dimension.

Although I would feel bad for Chad, I hope the chili Peppers thing doesn't work out for a while. Personal selfish fan reasons I guess.

Time will tell. At least they are back in the studio to see what comes of it.

Regarding Chickenfoot- Sammy on rhythm guitar would be a pleasing addition. I have high hopes for the 2nd release, I agree they have only scratched the surface of what they could do. We won't be happy if "our Joe" pushes himself too hard physically and mentally , however. Hope he works a little time in to just chill and enjoy life with friends and family . :-)
