cheese: that snow is a reaction to your Nickelback purchase... jejeje, just teasing u.

Austin, that is my very first Pink Floyd CD ever. Have heard them all but never bought them. I was on a big Floyd trip at the beginning of the year, and saw DSOTM at the local music store for 79 pesos (6 bucks), so the decision was easy.

And here's one more vote for Dogman. Great CD from start to almost finish (hate the last song).

Ibanezplyr - I really like Orianthi, I really, really, do, but I don't like the direction she's going. She was awesome doing the instrumental rock thing when I saw her open for Steve Vai in 2007, but it's a mistake to try to turn her into a pop star.

So with that in mind, yes, I'd LOVE to see her do a G3 tour. ;-)

cheese101 - Oh, I'd definitely buy music with my last $20.

I don't know exactly how many albums I have...I'm definitely above 500, and probably pretty close to 750. If I add in bootlegs, that'll definitely put me over 1,000.

How big are the music collections of other people here? I have a feeling I'm on the high end, but on some other forums I read (like Mike Portnoy's) I'm only average or below average.

michelle - Who says food and music have to be mutually exclusive? One of the items in my collection is the limited edition version of the Simpsons Movie soundtrack.

The cardboard box it comes in even smells like a donut...awesome!

Aaand I posted this on Facebook, but you aren't there so you didn't see it. I'm not the only one who does this.

elpp - Ah, very cool. Since you already know the music, if you eventually want to buy everything from Pink Floyd I highly recommend getting the Oh By he Way box set that came out a few years ago. It's all 14 of the band's albums in CD-size replica LP sleeves. And reprints of all of the extras that originally came with each album are included as well (DSOTM stickers and posters, Wish You Were Here postcard, etc.). Here's a YouTube video of someone unboxing it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0V0tgj2u_E

It's expensive ($225 or so) but it's a beautiful package and is well worth saving up for. I bought it with my tax return money a few years back.

Wow. I haven't logged in to this forum in probably 6-7 years, and I see the same people posting. I'm not sure whether to be humbled by your loyalty to Joe Satriani, or to be dumbfounded by your inabilities to expand and immerse yourselves in other artists and genres, the same way you can with Joe.

I wouldn't be saying this normally, but seeing Joe's new release is disillusioning for me. He has a formula wrapped up tight, that, for some reason, he won't stray from. His studio albums have become routine, and his live recorded CD/DVDs have been rehashed time and again. New lighting--ooh, ahh! He'll play his new songs, and Satch Boogie and Always with Me Always with You for the 5 MILLIONTH time. He needs to dig deeper into his catalogue and do something truly creative with it.

I was a die-hard fan just like you guys. But something happened to the image of Joe I held so highly--he's sullied it by boring, repetitive releases, in the name of "staying busy" as an instrumental guitarist. A true artist must create increasingly wondrous works as they age, not decline.

Bring on the flames >_<

Get A Loaf - well, you'll get what you wanted I'm sure.

First, l'm curious as to how you could possibly know that people who post here over a long time have "inabilities to expand and immerse themselves in other artists and genres, the same way you can with Joe" - do you know all of the interests and other pursuits each long-term-poster has???
How do you know they don't post on other forums in the universe and have other interests?

Even if T2J is the main form of online activity for people, the problem is what exactly? That they consistently enjoy a performing artist's work and like talking about it with others?

Secondly, you are entitled to your opinion about the evolution of Joe's work.
Me, I totally agree with Joe, and he's said this in many interviews, that it is not his job as an artist to try to produce work that he thinks people will like. All he can do is do what he enjoys and wants and put it out there. I for one, appreciate what he does publish and no, I haven't tired of it, I would give my left nut to see him in concert again.

Respect.

get a loaf, " I'm not sure whether to be humbled by your loyalty to Joe Satriani, or to be dumbfounded by your inabilities to expand and immerse yourselves in other artists and genres, the same way you can with Joe. " How would you know who is where on the internet and what other sites we go to? That's a pretty broad sweep, and not a nice one. I'd say you might have a few inabilities yourself with that statement.

MJK, yer such a geek, LOL!! Just go on with yer bad self! :D And before you post it, NO!!!!!

Skips, thanks for that lil reminder of A Cool New Way, that's aaaaaaanother one of my favorite Joe-songs, so now I'ma have to get that album out and listen at work today :)

Austin.......U.....AVERAGE amount??? Holee gad!! You do realize that at prolly an average of $10 per cd, you coulda almost bought a car...okay, a little car, but STILL!! LOL!! I think Chris has between 200-300 cds in his collection but that includes some odd stuff like backing tracks or compilations he's made himself, so those don't really count. Fer me, I still have room in my case that holds....100. lol!!

So Marshall....lets make it another 6-7 years, k? That'll be just fine! You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but, well.....you honestly haven't been missed. Ta-ta.

HAVE FUN TONIGHT JOE!!! Who keeps an eye on Mike in a place like Cabo? I have a feeling he has a GRRRREAT time there, LOL!!

A vaguely interesting post by Get a life.

Personally I feel that Joe hasn't done anything new since ITLIS, sure the musicianship as ever is superb but he's not stretching himself at all. Having said that, he's having a ball with Chickyfoot and generally doing just what he feels like doing which is great. Sometimes we just gotta stop and smell the roses and have some fun.

Unlike many here i'm not desperate for another solo Joe release, i'd rather wait until he has something new and different even if it's a bit "out there". I'm not a Chickyfoot lover but don't dislike it (just nothing different so far). Hopefully a bit more time and thought will go into the next one and we'll get something special.

@SkippyGirl- You're right. Joe doesn't make music specifically to please the audience and his fans. He makes music that is beautiful and entertaining to him. He is just so good at making music that it is not only really good to him, but it is to his fans.

*edit get a loaf. I don't think you fully understand or truly love Joe's music. Just because we are huge fans of Joe doesn't mean we don't love other performing artists or bands. My favorite band is The Police and I wish I could have gone to one of their concerts. But they did their last show together in 2006 or 07. All I can do now is listen and enjoy their music off my iPod. Be glad that Joe is still around making great music and pleasing his fans. Most guitarists retire way before his age.

Happy Earth Day!

Dave Matthews Band - One Sweet World; Red Rocks

Get a loaf - I'd say "welcome back" because I remember you and I really do miss your posts, but I'm confused why you returned only to make the type of post that you did.

A lot of the familiar names are still here because we've formed friendships with each other. If you want to know what happened here in the six years you were away, well, there's your answer.

The rest of your post just doesn't make sense. We were all posting about other music (new CDs) just yesterday, and the Live In Paris project and Joe's approach to setlists/playing live have both been criticized in the past few months.

I normally wouldn't spend this much time on a response to a post like yours, but as I said I remember you and I'd like to think that's worth giving you the benefit of the doubt.

cheese101 - Yeah, I know I've spent a lot of money on music, but it's been spread out over 15 years or so...looking at it that way, there aren't many other things I would have rather bought. I still have all of it, and I always will.
