hybes - I'm not much of a Manny Ramirez fan...yes, he can hit, but I think he has more negatives than positives as a player. He doesn't hustle...he plays hits to left field off the bounce instead of trying to make a catch, and he doesn't sprint to first base when he hits an infield grounder.

That said, he is fun to watch (and to get behind as a crowd). I was at a game earlier this year where he hit a pinch-hit home run to win the game, which was awesome.

About Chickenfoot, someone posted an interview here a week or two ago that said Joe and Sammy were writing together (I can dig up the link if you missed it). I think I heard something about Mike and/or Chad being involved in that too. Chad will be busy recording with the RHCP later this year, so even though Chickenfoot are writing now they won't be able to record anything until late 2010 or early 2011.

nizziny - Joe settled with Coldplay.
oxley11 - I'm disappointed in general by some people's refusal to give new music a try. I know some stuff I like (Satch, Dream Theater) isn't the most accessible, but bands like Dredg, Porcupine Tree, or even Riverside (I'm including a link because I haven't really mentioned them here before) could and should be hugely popular if people would just give 'em a chance. Oh well...
Skippygirl - It's the DVD audio with the problem, not the CD. I haven't noticed anything too odd...I'll have to listen to them side by side.
myersbw - Welcome back! What's been keeping you busy these past few weeks?

hey do the stu.

i have been listening to joe for a long time and some people i know like him and listen but not nearly as many as you would think, same goes for some of the other bands i have heard about since i found joe. i knew about joe in the 80s but didn't really wake up to him until the 2000s. since then i have looked at the bands that t2j people like and post about as well as the g-3 guys and the guests joe has had over the years. so far i am really into joe bonamassa and dream theater. andy timmons live is an awesome dvd and of course eric johnson too. i like erics cds better than the dvds though. i just wish we could get more material from him. i am really glad that guys like you post links to these guys so we can all find out about them. thanks

Hey all you die-hard Satch People!!!

Don't you guys think it would be so cool if Joe did his set list from the last decade only? Including his new stuff we're dying to hear of course...

But imagine all the GREAT tunes Joe created the last 10 years that we don't get to hear live again after that tour was over. Asik Veysel, Andalusia, Redshift Riders, One Robot's Dream, Made of Tears, all the great stuff Joe did on Space and Strange!

OR how about all post-Extremist? I am so into Crystal Planet and 1995 Joe S too...really those are my favs from that decade. EVERYthing on 1995 is as cool as #9 to me!

Austin, some new music is just soooo bad! I damn near broke my ass today trying to get out of the shower and hit the OFF button on the radio across the room when a Muse song came on. Such utter crap! I hardly ever listen to the radio anymore because that's pretty much all the local station here plays. Great Philly stations, but we're in a suction zone and hardly ever get anything but static on them. About 2 weeks ago my husband almost put the clock radio through the wall at 5 a.m. trying to slam it off when that feckin' Train song came on to wake us up. lol! It's Soul Sister or something, but theee most annoying tune to wake up to!! It seems like they play the same stupid songs at the same time of day ferchristsake! Then again, if I bought an alarm radio that played music I like, I'd prolly never get up and just lay there and relax to it...so I guess it serves a purpose. lol!

woodman - got yer point. Didn't know the entire implication, I spose, but is it now a case of 2 wrongs don't make a right? Or, are we on the same page? Yet, I do know...three rights make a left! :-O

Stu - busy! ...and more busy... :-P I work at a university and the year end is crazy. Kids are gone now so it's lightened a little.

brad,

i look at it this way, the country is your home. the front door is the border and you have filled the house with your stuff that you earned the money and payed for. now maybe you have no problem helping a few guys from down the street. but at some point you need to close your door. we all close our doors at night when we sleep because we don't want uninvited guests. even churches keep their doors closed sometimes. if you leave it open then someone comes in. if its a guy thats hungry he takes your food, if he's sick he takes your medicine, if he's a crook he steals your stuff or kills your wife and grabs your daughter. even if you are the nicest guy in the world, who doesn't mind giving everything away, eventually you run out of stuff. that's where arizona is now. thats the way i see it anyway.the solution to our problem is outside the border. somehow we need to help our neighbors fix their home so they can live there, and prosper, and enjoy what life has to offer.

From Joe's Facebook page RE: LIP DVD returns and everyone complaining that it's the video that needs fixed rather than the audio:

Joe Satriani: the word is that people outside of the US can still send in their DVD for an exchange. we have also been discussing the possibility of doing an unaffected version for those interested, but there is nothing definite yet. we do hear those of you who are asking!

Just thought some of you might like to know that....

Ian

Since we're all talking about DVD's, is anyone having problems with their new Chickenfoot DVD?

Near the end (during Turning Left) the video freezes up in a couple of different spots. It's happening on both of my DVD players. I went back to Best Buy to exchange it and the new one is still doing the same thing. There were no scratches on the either disk.

Any comments?

jstony, yep, my CF DVD freezes up at one point too. Not positive if it's at Turning Left, but it very well could be. It's just a small glitch, but still a bit bothersome.

Ride a bike for a great cause.

This morning we launched I RIDE FOR LIVESTRONG, a dynamic, virtual version of the Tour of California, where I will be racing starting on Sunday. This online event allows you to create your own virtual bike, tell us who you ride for (a survivor or caregiver who has inspired you) and race through the California landscape using your story to invite more people to join us in the fight against cancer.

When we talked to our partners at RadioShack about the campaign, they raised the stakes: If we can get 10,000 people to join the ride in the next 48 hours, RadioShack will donate $75,000 to LIVESTRONG. It’s an amazing opportunity and we are thankful for their support. But we can’t get there without your help.

Join the ride

This year, cancer will become the #1 killer in the world. If we get 10,000 people to join the ride, the $75,000 gift will go a long way toward supporting survivors and pushing leaders around the world to dedicate more resources to the fight against cancer.

The Tour of California, the largest cycling event in America, kicks off on Sunday, and each of us at Team RadioShack will bring a personal hero along for the ride. The I RIDE FOR stickers on our bikes will bear the names of survivors and caregivers who inspire us. At even the steepest climb in the race, they’ll remind us that, in the fight against cancer, unity is strength and no one should ride alone.

But we're just eight guys and there are millions of stories to tell. That’s why we launched I RIDE FOR LIVESTRONG, a virtual version of the Tour that allows you to create your own bike and tell your own story about who inspires you. Now, more than ever, we need to talk about the global cancer crisis—if something doesn’t change, one in two people will have to fight cancer by 2030. We have to fight back, we have to tell our stories and we have to push leaders around the world to dedicate the energy and resources necessary to see a world without cancer in our children’s lifetimes.

I RIDE FOR LIVESTRONG is a great way to build our movement and today we have a huge opportunity to generate support for the cause by raising $75,000. We need your help. Will you join the ride?

Join the ride

LIVESTRONG,

Lance Armstrong
