Joe - sounds nasty, I don't begin to try to understand how your legislature works but hopefully AZ SB 1070 can be overridden by a Federal law? It also sounds like a cochamamie attempt at a bad solution in desperation to solve a problem.

that new law in arizona is really not a new law. they simply took existing federal law and mandated that it be enforced. the federal law was passed in 1940. what they will be doing now is when a person is legally stopped for whatever reason they would have already been stopped, the officer will ask for their immigration status. if they are driving and have no license, then that is an indication that they may not be legal. the people of Arizona have passed this law with a large majority of support because they are in a war zone with the mexican drug cartels. they average 1 kidnapping a day there and most recently, a rancher who routinely helped the illegals when they passed thru his land was shot and killed by suspected grug smugglers. i think that as times continue to be tough financially on American citizens you will find broad support for laws that try to stop illegal immigrants for getting the benefits of free education for thier children and free medical attention. polls taken recently show this to be the case. i think it is also prudent to take a look at the immigration laws of Mexico which are much harsher then here. just being illegal once there gets you two years in prison and if caught a second time its ten years. i think we would all like to help the less fortunate, but there is a limit to the resources and i think American citizens should be the first to beneifit from tax dollars which are taken from them.

Skippygirl - To answer your question in a different way...
When state laws and federal laws conflict with each other, the federal laws win. For example, federal law says it's a crime to possess marijuana for any reason. But some states, like California, have passed laws saying possession of marijuana for medicinal purposes is OK. So every now and then you'll hear about federal agents raiding medicinal marijuana facilities in California and making arrests (it doesn't happen too often...the federal government has avoided the confrontation by saying prosecuting medicinal marijuana cases isn't worth the resources).
In the case of the Arizona immigration bill, yes, the federal government could pass a new law to override it. But that's tricky...they can't just single out Arizona and cancel that one law, they'd have to pass a general law saying that only the federal government (and not individual states) has the power to create laws concerning immigration. And that won't happen, because it'd create a whole mess of other problems in states that already have other less controversial immigration laws in place.
It's a very complicated issue.

Mick Brigden make sure Joe does not play the same dates as Jeff Beck in the same country this fall. I would not want to choose (and have to sell my october Jeff Beck tickets to see Joe)

I think Obama's exact words were...
"That bitch is crazy!"
j/k, but I'm sure he said that at some point.
I really can't believe they passed a law like that. It's insane. So glad to hear yer views on it Joe. What can we do to help? If you find something - let us know!

Hello All,
Got my Bruce Bouillet albums through...good stuff...amazing the difference between the first and second album...on the first album it was like he had to prove that he could shred fast on every track (bit of an yngwie complex) but the second album had a lot more own style and complexity to the playing....he thanks Paul Gilbert in the sleeve, so maybe that was a big help...be interesting to see how much he has progressed now.
Mikesb - thought of you when I looked at the new dates for the London Guitar Show...much much later this year...but it was sure good to meet ya a couple of years ago!
Chappy Steve - thanks for the input and I see exactly where you are coming from and you are kinda right ..but it is a yes and no to the "no brainer"...you would need all the info to make the decision...which I have obviously...but you see, I cant have contact with my kids until we do either or & its been 2 years without them already.
Glitz man - Thought of you as we watched "Run Fatboy Run" yesterday, which is a film about a guy who runs a marathon to win back the love of his life...its a very funny film...good luck with all the up and coming ones you will be doing!
Michelle - LOL...thanks for the comment
Hugs Satriella xx

Do The Stu- Apologies is one of my favorite songs. I started listening to Grace Potter (& The Nocturnals ) after watching the "Cortez Jam" for the first time. She sings with a lot of passion & has an awesome voice.
Cappy steve- I seem to be experiencing a Sarchasm ....maybe its caused by my Bozone layer.... lol j/k
Scar Tissue may have a lot of sex & drugs but it is definitely not erotica........

well if more americans were willling to work hard less jobs would go to these people .. i am not saying all americans dont work hard .. but the wellfare nation should have to do these jobs to keep benefits along with a small sum of money from the employer ..but free money is better than working for it .. that being said people that are physically unable to work should be exempt

The "doing the jobs Americans won't" is BS. The government just needs more tax payers in future to cover their debts. In the meantime they are turning the US into a third world cesspool.

Third World sess Pool. Wow. That actually is very close to the truth right now. And it's happening at lightening speed.
Unfortunately I think a lot of people in this country might be missing the bigger picture with this bill in Arizona. I can't imagine for a second that they think it's going to hold up in federal court. You really have to think that this was done to open the eyes of the government who has been on and off the fence about this issue for years. Meanwhile, record numbers of illegals are crossing the borders everyday. As far as I can tell from all accounts, there hasn't been anyone just yanked off a street corner and forced to show proof of citizenship. At least not yet.
Something drastic has to happen about this issue. We are so quickly becoming a country that doesn't want to "inconvenience" anyone at the sake of their safety and protection.
Personally I don't see how this violates anyone's rights anymore than setting up road blocks on Memorial day to check for insurance and drunk drivers. There is no more probable cause to pull me over to check for my insurance than there is to grab someone and ask them for proof of citizenship. The government shouldn't be able to just pick and choose which of our rights they plan to violate. Period.

Hot button issue for me. I have seen the changes in my beautiful little town over the last 35 years, and it ain't pretty. Oh and by the way, I have an Aunt from Mexico City and part of my family lives there and in Cuernavaca so I am not a xenophobe. Mexico is exporting it's impoversihed class to the the US. Some of these people used to have small farms and when big agra buisnesses went down there the people were put out of business. All about the globalization of the economy. The people that orchestrated (governments) don't haft to live with what they have created. Just us little people.
