Wooleyman - Allen Whitman is the bass player from the SF-area band The Mermen...Joe mentioned them on here a few months ago. I like them...they have a cool surf rock sound that's almost mixed with a jam band thing. It'll be neat to hear how that blends with Joe.

Listening to: Dave Weiner - On Revolute (current song: On Revolute)

I'm very disappointed with your anti American decision to boycott Az. I used to be a fan - big time. Sorry for your poor choice. Please stay away if you have no clue.

Got my Weiner CD today. Very cool yet simple artwork on the cover. It's even cooler that he took the time to personalize the autographs. Looking forward to some 7 string goodness.

It would be cool if Joe Satriani used a 7 string on a song or two on the new album; it's been awhile. It would be even cooler if he released a signature 7 string this year (my vote is the CA one he has played the last few years... G3 Tokyo Searching)
Or I'd even be ok with this one from the SBM tour...

4USA - Just because you disagree with Joe it doesn't mean his decision is anti-American...actually, his freedom to protest any way he sees fit is quite American. I don't agree with him, not entirely, but I'm glad he's standing up for what he believes in. I'm still a fan of his music...I'm sorry to hear that you aren't.

Finally got around to getting the Live in Paris DVD, as expected amazing perfornance by Joe and the Band, not so sure about the added in video effects though, did anyone else find them a bit annoying?

What?! The DVD was amazing!! It was very bold of Joe to make a cool retro psychadelic concert video! Probably like the ones he saw of bands like Cream back in the day.

I thought it was bold to try and make the concert itself be more musically legit by sort of, taking the focus off of all the craziness of the guitar playing. I write instrumental songs and the minute someone hears you play some fast they freak out on you, and think you're just trying to be showy. I put a lot of soul, thought and sweat into my songs and I would hate it if everybody only focused on the techniques involved with its performance. I don't know how Joe feels about it these days but I think people do just only hear "guitar playing" more often then not.

Any attempt to push the musical (pictures in the mind, movies, feelings etc etc) aspects of the music I think is a serious step forward. It's like we get to see what images and colors are going through Joe's head when he plays those cool tunes. The performance of "Overdriver" brought me to tears! I was on the edge of my seat! And that was do to the assault on my visual and sonic senses... overload!!! Brilliant. It would be my dream come true to see my songs portrayed in such a way.

Too many guys these days are trying to emulate via the simplest method: technique. The effect its having on the quality of the compositions of the new guitar instrumentalists is detrimental.

Concept is king! Keep leadin' the way Joe!

Hey Mark..Sorry to hear about your Mom..RIP

Hawk-all i won was a discount card and a shirt too big to even wear...lol...this thursday is store finals....details of prizes are here http://gc.guitarcenter.com/kingoftheblues/

Joe- just read an article on "Are Signature guitars worth the $" and surprisingly the JS was used as a perfect example...check it out.....

So why did I buy a signature guitar (Js1000BK)? Well for 2 reasons. Firstly I have been a fan of Ibanez guitars since I bought my RG550DX back in the early 90’s and secondly because I have been a fan of Joe Satriani for 20 years. AHA! I hear you say, you bought it because you were a fan, not because of the product development cycle! Wrong. That is exactly the reason I bought my JS1000. This guitar is something that has been refined for 20 years by Satch and used on tour year after year. Unlike Vai, Joe is happy to use new guitars not favour one old one in particular and this is the important factor. From the years of touring and studio recording Joe has sculpted what was once a humble Ibanez 540 Radius into something that is an incredibly versatile, comfortable and amazing sounding guitar. The multi-radius neck gives the guitar a vintage feel when you are playing in first position and yet makes shredding easy up the top end of the fretboard. The bridge pickup was designed by Joe. The ability to split the coils on both humbuckers enables all the clean and distorted tones you will ever need and if that wasn’t enough there is hi-pass filter when you pull the volume pot maintains high frequencies at low volumes which is a great feature. This guitar in my opinion is a perfect example of a Signature guitar and worth the money. In fact, they are actually pretty reasonably priced compared to the Ibanez JEM which in Australia will set you back $4,795.00!

The JS is the only guitar I Love!..:)

Dying to try the Acoustic..all dealers dont have them yet...and the 2400 too...Joe?

I agree with Joe racial profiling on any level is wrong..just because a group of people or any individual has an opinion about another person or group of people doesn't mean that it is always accurate or intended in the best way..certain laws give corrupt people the right to hide behind it and do whatever they choose..right or wrong..and bend things to there purposes..that is wrong on any level in my book..but thank god we do live in a country where we can say what we feel without being punished..and are free to pursue whatever avenue we want our lives to take..the US constitution gurantees it..men and women have died for this belief..I just wish our legislators today had the same passion for what this country was founded on 200 plus years ago...but sometimes it seems to be an ignored part of policy making..and things have evolved into smokey back room dealings and who and what can be bought with the most money and influence..just my thoughts..looking forward to Joe's new material big time..sorry for the mondo rant..good memorial day to everyone...be safe..!!

I wonder how many of those who have offered an opinion on the Arizona malarkey have actually availed themselves of all the information and/or spoken to the people directly involved. Rightly or wrongly I draw comparisons with the use of the term "African American". One day I was chatting with an American colleague (who happened to be black) and I told him I was intrigued by the aforementioned (allegedly politically correct) term and asked what he thought about it. The long and the short of it was "I am NOT an African American", "I am an American who happens to be black", "the fact that some or all of my ancestors came from Africa is totally irrelevant, I was born in America and so were my parents". To judge what is right or wrong for Arizonans, I think one needs to be an Arizonan or at least have canvassed a wide enough spectrum of the inhabitants to get a fair idea of just what they think and what the chuff is going on. Then again, I could be talking ballix!
