This oil spill is bad beyond belief. So many peoples livelihoods are gone indefinitely. Our ocean and beaches/marshes are ruined, and our animals are dying by the thousands. They're pumping in poison to disperse poison. Bad deal. Again, big money does shotty work and F's everything up for America and the world. It's not what can you give anymore, it's what can you take. The greed mentality is truly the American way. It's a cryin' fucking shame. Mother Nature's got nothing on human stupidity.

Hybes - Excellent words my friend...

I thought maybe sleeping on it would calm me down a bit, but I am still appalled at this whole sound strike thing. Personally, if you are in the entertainment business, I don't really think it's a good idea to be that extreme about your political beliefs. It could be suicide for your career. Hopefully it doesn't turn up that way, but I don't think what these guys are doing is the answer. At any rate, as long as Joe's name is on that list, I'll have to refrain from spending any money on all things Satriani, and anyone else on that list for that matter....

Turbo - I agree. I wish famous people would not use that fame to platform their beliefs.

I remember when the Dixie Chicks used their concerts to bash George Bush. Thought that was just completely wrong.

But everyone is entitled their beliefs. At least for now. I respect Joe's opinion on this matter. Wish he wasn't joining the boycott, but he's entitled.

Hopefully this will all be resolved soon and we can move on to other things.....like cleaning up massive oil spills.

michelle - Thanks for the info on the Dio memorial...funny how you're on the other side of the country but you know more about some LA-area events than I do. ;-)

I'm free Sunday afternoon, so I'll try to go. It seems a bit weird to me, though...I appreciate what he's done for music, but I've only seen him in concert once and I don't actually own any of his albums. So a memorial might be a bit much for me.

I think I'll end up going, if for no other reason than a larger group of music fans in attendance will make the protesters from the Westboro Baptist "Church" look smaller. I still can't believe they're picketing the memorial...ugh.

Breaking our laws does not give illegal aliens the right to be here. This is a minor problem compared to the democratic controled government bankrupting the country for generations to come. Joe , don't waste your time on that nonsense...your freedom and liberty is being legislated away and You don't even know it.....I have lost a lot of respect for you

If famous people don't use their fame as a platform to fight for their beliefs and rights as well as ours, who the f@#k will? YOU!?!?!?

! Well go on then.Lets see you make a difference!!!

I don't know much about USA politics or law, but i DON'T worship a flag!!!

I believe we are all created equal by a greater power to share every inch of this planet AS equals.

GREED for POWER over the less fortunate is what is destroying the value of human life.

If you DON'T want people in higher positions than yourself to make an effort for positive changes, then STOP complaining, get DOWN off your HIGH HORSE,get UP off your FAT ARSE and DO SOMETHING YOURSELF!!!!!! F*#@ING IGNORAMOUS's!!!!

I will continue to support Joe and all the others who are willing to put their reputation on the line for a chance to make this world a better place for ALL mankind!!!

Cheers Joe.

Fatape - I took an oath 7 years ago to support and defend the Constitution against all foreign and domestic enemies when I enlisted into the Air Force. Although for medical reasons I am no longer able to continue the fight there, I still do what I can on the outside. Even something as simple as writing a Congressman about something you have concerns about. It's not correct to assume that famous people are the only ones that try to make a difference.

I don't think it's totally inappropriate for people like Joe Satriani to use their position to try and make changes; I just think something like this is the wrong situation. Does anyone really think that the Arizona Government gives a damn that these 20 artists are no longer going to perform in their state? NO.. Who does this hurt? Their fans and the artists' revenue. There are many other things that famous people can do to benefit others. Like someone pointed out in an earlier post, the sound strike website is... misinformed... for lack of a better term. I thought Joe had more sense than to associate himself with something like this.

Joe Satriani - I'm glad that you fight for what you believe in; I don't begrudge you that. To be honest with you though, I believe the State of Arizona is doing more to protect my civil rights than the sound strike movement is.

Ian

Mai tai man - You say 'i will not lose respect for any person if they have a differing opinon or point of view' but by referring to folks behaviour as 'all time petty low' and saying that they 'need to mature some' actually indicates that you have. Have another drink.

I truly appreciate your actions in enlisting and taking an active part in defending your country(as i do anyone else in any form of defense or protection service).I too have medical reasons for not being able to enlist. And i DO write to whoever I need to in order to make changes

My gripe is with the "empty vessels" who complain and whine about a situation and bad mouth anyone famous or otherwise for standing up, when they're not willing to do so themselves. I won't mention names as I'm above being that type of person. The guilty ones know who they are and they can battle with their own conscience over it.

No offence intended towards you , Ian. Cheers.
