At a certain price decency ends and exploitation begins (either of fans or of saint Joe).

I long for the simpler backstage days, friends and family with a sprinkling of journalists and the chance for some meaningful conversation..... :(

hey guitarvibes, i think the price of the meet and greet is set so that there is a limited number af people. plain supply and demand. if they priced it lower, lots of people would buy the package and no one would be satisfied with the result. over the years they have probably kept track of how many people are wiling to pay for the privelige of meeting Joe and set the price so that they get a manageable number of guests. i don't think they are trying to take advantage. i suppose they could simply limit the nimber of guests to the meet and greet though, and charge less. but then people would complain they couldn't get a ticket. yo also have to keep in mind that when joe does these, he is willing to sign all your stuff which is pretty cool. a lot of other artists don't do that and some will only sign their own signature gear. that being said it is not cheap. i did it once at the live in anaheim show in 2006 and i thought it was worth the money. Joe was a very down to earth guy with a sense of humor and the guy running the meet and greet, john iverson was also really cool. i wish it could have been longer but it was still worth it. and he signed my daughter's acoustic guitar too.

Scooby Doo - I once lost three days at one of those simpler backstage malarkeys back then, no way can my old bod take the punishment I used to dish out to it in the name of having fun and partying. Having said that, I toured with a band in Sweden once posing as the official photographer, wowser what a blast!

dream3 - yes the Tigers were drubbed but we had our hopes up after nearly beating Hawthorn last week. Cool pre-match now for the Dream game ("your" game?) almost ilke the Olympic opening ceremony. I remember when there was just a small party of people walked onto the edge of the G and did the smoke ceremony and that was it.

Going to the MCG tonight actually for the Socceroos sendoff match to the World Cup, vs New Zealand. A shame Harry and Mark Schwarzer are out injured but still hope to see gorgeous Timmy Cahill run out.

roo - you going tonight?

As for the meet n greet tics, I didn't realise they cost so much. On the one hand Joe makes his living by entertaining so I think he should be able to charge to get to meet him, absolutely. From my point of view I would *gulp* have to think about paying for me and Mr Skippy, got the family to consider although I would dearly love to meet Joe and give him a hug.

In any case Jamie, when Joe comes back to Melbourne I'll join you in the line and we can keep each other company all day, then when the doors open I can hang onto your belt loops and hopefully get up the front left, first row.

Don - congrats! Sounds like a great win by Darlene, enjoy.

All in fun Marky Mark. We know yer...nuts. Hope yer doing well. Drop me an update email.

;-)

Woodman, you have a very good point. My beef is more with the way the seats are distributed. IMO, if yer the first to buy a full price ticket, you should get up front. I guess so many seats are reserved for press & family & friends, I dunno. It just really blows when you buy a ticket as soon as they go on sale and get a way back seat. This is JOE we're talking about here! lol! They eventually let some of the seats they don't need go, but then if you buy closer seats you have to sell the tix you already have. Been there, done that.

As for peeps who wanna spend major bucks to see the gear, have a q & a, meet Joe, get a pic with Joe, and get a t-shirt, laminate & poster - well, all that's not free! How much would it cost to hire Joe for an hour, plus get all that stuff?

Anyways...

time to eat :-)

well i guess when it all comes down to it, joe is a great guitar player, just a human with great talent. all humans want to be successful and make money. he is doing both. sorry some may think of him as anything but a human. he is out to make great music and money for himself and his family and the employes he has and the record company..etc. you either will or won't spend the dollars. it is supposed tobe a small intimate occasion. you and maybe 20 others for about 1 to 2 hours. if that is too high a price i can cetainly understand that. however to cast aspersion due to a dollar factor just being small and selfish. you either are willing or you are not. market driven. just because i am a member of this forum is absolutly no reason to believe joe takes anything i have to say or any of any other person to heart that for that matter. jeesh some of you are so petty. why are you here. flame away small minded folks...flame away.

michelle, i know what you mean about the seats. when i got the meet and greet it came with tickets. now there were only a dozen people who got the meet and greet and this venue was the grove in anaheim which is set-up with dinner tables in front. you actually go in and eat dinner before the first act. they had all of the meet and greet people at my table.the problem i had was the even though i had front row center tickets, the standing area was actually in front of us. unfortunately, the standing room was only one or two steps down from my level so when they stood in front of me, they were actually about the same height so my view was blocked. this was very disappointing but it is really the venue, not the performer's fault. when i figured the price, it wasn't too damn bad because i got my seat, my dinner and the meet and greet for about 200. now when i go to a show, since i want an unobstructed view, i try to get a seat that is front row balcony or front row of a section. it all depends on the venue, but most of the places that Joe plays are not huge so you still have a great view. i do wish it really was first come first served but i understand that the performer is going to reserve seats for guests at some shows. if you really want to see the best possible show the best way is to bite the bullet and spend the cash for scalped tickets up front. a friend of mine did that for a dream theater concert in NY and ended up all over that dvd they made. and just by chance, the guy he sat with in the front knew the drummer so they got backstage after the show. you almost can't put a price on that!

Dream3 - if you've got a dodgy back I'll do the sprinting and you fend people off or trip them over etc and I'll secure our spots in front of Joe and hold people off with a force field till you catch up. Easy peasy.

Guitarvibes- Joe was never a swindler for money. Steve Vai is a little more demanding when it comes to gear and merchandise. I hear his Bad Horsie 2 Wah pedal is more expensive and not as good quality as the Big Bad Wah. And his standard Ibanez is much more expensive than Joe's JS1200 and the only extra thing it has is a monkeybar handle. To me that's not worth paying $600 more dollars for.

My uncle just showed me this funny cartoon network show. This character, Brak, is absolutely hilarious. Hope it cheers some people up. I'll tell ya, I needed a good laugh.

Tikimon- Well said ....as pertains to meet & greet cost. The cost of touring and taking care of expenses.. band & crew has got to be prohibitive. It is the music business and business costs. I completely agree with your statements

If I were Joe I wouldn't even read this forum... all we do is piss & moan & take everything so damn personal....... well not everybody but enough of us

Anyway ....GOOD GRIEF!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

Didnt mean to start a fight on the Meet & Greet ticket price front in terms of how much it costs... What I was getting at is why is it that if I was to buy a Club Joe ticket for a UK show today then someone else could buy one tomorrow and pay a different price because they are only available in US dollars and the exchange rate could change overnight??? That is the bit that doesnt seem fair... When he toured last time they were available in UK currency so everyone paid the same... Why cant they do that this time??? This also discriminates folk who decide not to have a debit/credit card because they may not be eligible (bad credit, under 18, choice)...
