michelle - now you're speaking my language! I am a HUGE PRIMUS fan... Ler is #3 on my top 3 of guitarists, no foolin! My favorite Joe student of them all. To say that he plays a little differently than all the rest would be a gross understatement. Just saw them in Toronto at the end of July, as always, frickin' incredible! Seen Les a whole buncha times too, Frog Brigade, 0ysterhead, Fancy Band.. always amazing!

Listening to: Buckethead - Captain Eo's Voyage
(delighted to see 2 other people listening to Big B - Electric Tears is a truly beautiful album, had it in the CD player in the delivery room when my Daughter was born, now it's charged with emotional memories for me! Also, Crime Slunk Scene is amazingly good too, I LOVE that CD!)

I jam the Crime Slunk Scene at work on a fairly regular basis. Totally dig that album. Definitely need to add more BH to my collection.

I don't know if I ever posted this here before or not, seeing as though I'm binging on Buckethead right now I'll share it with the T2J community as well. My Daughter Annie (6) sent this performance out to "Uncle Mikey" (That 1 Guy) and I recorded the first take. This is one apple who didn't fall very far from the tree, she has a completely demented and twisted sense of haha... just like her Daddy. We have so much fun together.
Enjoy!

Hey Samwhat, I was in a head on collision back in 93 and after 3 months, I woke up to the sound of Joe, thanks to a roommate and brother who knew my passion. Joe will always hold a place in my heart. I saw him for the 11th time this month. He amazes me

I like Buckethead's work and would enjoy getting into his music more, but he has so many freakin' albums.

If you guys want to put me in the right direction as to which album I should really listen to, please tell me.

oxley11 - You're right about the sheer quantity of BH out there, for me it was the same as when I got into Zappa, not a clue where to start, there's just so mucking fuch! With BH he tends to cover a lot of different styles and sounds, so it kind of depends if you're more into heavy stuff or the more mellow side, fortunately for me I'm into both.

Here then are a few of my favorites:
Monsters And Robots - first album I picked up, still holds a special place in my heart.
The Dragons Of Eden - beautiful and amazing album.
Albino Slug - is another fast favorite of mine.
Pepper's Ghost - one of my absolute favorites, some say his best work.
Crime Slunk Scene - A truly great piece of work.
Decoding The Tomb Of Bansheebot - Another favorite, also a great place to start.
The Elephant Man's Alarm Clock - very heavy, very well done.
Electric Tears - very mellow, very beautiful.
Enter The Chicken - for a nice blend of heavy and mellow and everything in between. Titled as "Buckethead & Friends" because of a lot of guest artists.
Inbred Mountain - Very unusual and heavy.
Population Override - is another unique one, a little bit funky and a little bit bluesy.
Last, but certainly not least, is my new favorite Captain Eo's Voyage - a truly beautiful work of art. Most of us "bots" (Buckethead fans) are speculating that The Homing Beacon (A Tribute To Michael Jackson) will be added as the (magical) 13th track on the CD.

There's a place to start anyways... don't be overwhelmed just dive on in! The water is PERFECT! ;0)

Some nice info here on links in Joe's wiki page....

There is no mention in this article about Joe's pre "success" days. He used to rule the SF Bay Area and especially the Berkeley scene in the early 80's (1980-1983)with a 3 piece band called the "Squares". I saw the "Squares" at Diablo Valley College's Duck Pond Concert Series one afternoon on 1982 or 83, The Stage in Danville and The Keystone Berkeley several times and other places I can't remember. The venues were always packed and Joe had long hair and used to even sing back then! It was fun! There were always good looking gals there.

I remember this one tune where the crowd at the Keystone Berkeley would just errupt and be bouncing up and down and singing along"...whoa..whoa...whoa...follow my heart...follow my heart...It was way different from what he does today. But because it was Joe...it was awesome! I can't remember who was on bass...but I know Jeff Campatelli was on drums.

If there is anyone that remembers all the details about this era please include it. I think this stuff is just as important as who he taught. He influenced the music in the SF Bay Area by more than just teaching guitar...and much earlier than most people realize. He deserves props for it! The kids today have no idea! That's our Joe!

thanks for that Anibir----so cool, to of been able to follow Joe from his beginnings.

Ah! I cannot wait to get my electric back in awhile, a friend operated on it and fixed the knobs that weren't working at all------said it sounds just killer now, completely diferent. I knew there was reasons for why it sounded so flat. Many times I said bleh, and just put it down in frustration. Even tweeking with my pedal and amp just didnt do much. At last.... Tonight that shall finally change. It's gonna be like playing a whole new guitar. And found out it is a very rare model. Like Joe is rare and unique, I have named it Joe. Who says you gotta refer to your items as "she" and not "he"? :-)
