In the interest of saving money I would probably get the VK112 if I were to switch out amps. For now, though, things seem to be sounding ok with the Raven. My only gripe is that it doesn't have a presence buffer on the effects loop, otherwise it seems to be a pretty decent amp for the money.

OK, Kansas City. made the 3 + hour drive back home after last night's KC Joe show. Anyone who reads T2J knows how jacked up I was prior to the show. I was at about an 11. I had never been to this venue so i didn't know what to expect. Doors were 630 and we got there at 645. Chicago Joe shows were always a complete zoo so I was surprised to find the lobby here almost empty. They had one small folding merch table as you enter but the selection was pretty slim ...The theater itself was pretty damn cool looking and is an old time renovated theater kinda resembling a mini Chicago HOB. I think I have slightly diff perspective on a Joe show seeing as how the last one i saw was 2000/EOC. That show was amazing and basically can be heard note for note on the Live in San Fran disc we all have. But that said, i dunno, I came away from last night only half excited and sadly much of the performance just didn't get me movin much at all. I don't know if it was because it was almost the end of this leg of the tour or what but the whole night had a rushed feeling to it and I almost felt as if the theater staff/security weren't all that happy/or prepared to have Joe. I was only 11 rows back but the acoustics were awful and really ruined the show for me. The biggest issue was the bands sound/tone was washed out by some kind of overlying...noise is all I can describe it as. You could hear the basic tune of the song but all the intricate nuance of Joe's work was totally washed out. We got the same setlist as Chicago and on WITT the sustainiac reverb was basically nonexistent. You lose that and the song kinda falls apart. Basically any song that had high notes like memories, Revelation, Crystal Planet, Premonition, etc. was reduced to mid tone drones. Any song with a dirtier tone like Hordes and War came off well as the setup seemed to favor that sound. Joe was trying his ass off but I think even he knew the theater was screwed up. At one point, after a song Mike Manning came out and tried to adjust Joe's setup, they bodied up to one another and joe turned his head at mike as if to say get away, mike kept fiddling with the guitar and joe( seemingly embarrassed) turned to the crowd and said : Say hello to Mike everyone! lol The whole crowd did and mike gave up on whatever he was trying to fix and walked off. But I mean there were probs all night with setup. During BBM joe walked up to the mic and tried to sing and nothing came out! So he turned towards the band saying something i think, and they played through the intro notes again without stopping. Then he came back to the mic and finally it worked. Its just too bad things weren't right. The show was nowhere near as polished as the CP tour or the EOC tour and honestly i was looking forward to hearing the new songs but the setlist has them all mixed in and I think they should be up front more prominently. Its the BSAWW tour right?! Maybe I'm just messed up but i always remember Joe's live sound to be as good or better than the CD so i really don't know what to think about last night except to say things were rushed and the theater setup was jacked up. Had a few run-ins with security: Me: Can we move to better seats if they're open? Scrty: sure. Then we're about to and they're like: people paid good money for those seats so go back. I'm like: I paid good money too! and 5 rows were completely empty! wth? after the show a bunch of us went down to the stage during tear down and they started some bs about we're kickin everyone out NOW! lol It was a weeknight, but c'mon it was only like 10:40.... I got more stories & a boatload full of pretty decent pics of Joe I'm gonna try to put up as a gallery link somewhere, but i gotta sort through em.

Michelle You were right on about scrty and cams too. The guy in the row in front of us filmed almost the entire damn show and no one cared. So that'll probly be on YT soon. lol Of course it'll be interesting to see what quality it is!

Im LOVING all this rain we are finally FINALLY getting in Southern California these past few days. Long over due. I hate to see it go :( if it would just rain on my days off, i'd be even happier! Even though we werent able to see the LUNAR eclipse this morning :-l that did truly suck. Go figure....when it DOES rain here it has to ruin a stellar Eclipse and of course one such as this one :-O sorry for the chatter-----to anyone who will listen Merry Christmas

Joe, I'm coming to see you in Calgary on 5th January 2011. It's for my wife's 40th Birthday (17th Jan). We have been married 15 years and the tune we had our first dance to at our wedding was ' Always with me, always with you ' We had a live band perform it. We have, recently ( 1yr ) moved to Canada from UK with our 3 small children. This is our first night out together without children since arriving a year ago. My wife is an amazing person, agreeing to move to Canada even though she knows her parents won't fly and so will not visit us here. I really want to make this birthday so special for her. Is there any way you could dedicate a song for her on the night ( any appropriate one ) but obviously if you are planning to play Always with me, that would be awesome. Thanks for all the great music over the years, Have a great tour, have a fntastic Christmas and wonderful new year.

Ally, we had all that mess last year. It was insane! We had 20 inches of snow on our back deck, and you had to step UP instead of down to get out the door. lol! It's yer turn now. Just hope it sorts itself out in time for yer travels.

California is getting it's ass whooped with rain, the midwest, north, & Europe with snow. It's all good here in PA if anybody wants to come over :-) To PA I mean...not my house...unless you bring booze & you wanna help me clean the house and wrap presents...but call first...

Scubadaz- If you're going to get a JVM 410, maybe you should wait a few months and let Joe put his signature on that model before you buy as that seems to be the route he is going with Marshall.

Marshall JVM 410 JS???

I could see it. Maybe somebody here already has the inside scoop on a possible JS Marshall?? Maybe Joe Satriani himself could shed some light on the subject, if he is at liberty to do so, of course.

The next big news will be the DVD release date!! Hopefully the LIP project does not carry over to the Montreal DVD, but I would be happy if at least half of the songs are un-affected, I suppose. I hope Joe can find time in his schedule to get this thing released before the end of 2011, but with Chickenfoot on the books, it's not looking too good. And I must admit, the thought of Chad Smith NOT touring with the band has me a little less excited for CFII than I once was. Of course, the only reason I ever got excited about CF in the first place was because of Joe, so Chad's place in the band shouldn't make or break the deal for me. I guess I've kinda gotten attached to him, too!

JOE:

I don't know what you guys heard on stage Monday night but to me the sound was flat. I just can't figure out if it was the Marshalls sound, the theater, or just your diff approach to the songs? This was my 1st experience of you through the M's and if all they do is flatten everything out I think you should go back to the Peaveys. It just doesn't sound right anymore. All the detail in the songs is lost in what seems like a move toward a harsh sound? Go back and listen to the Dreaming #11 recording of Memories at like 3:46 in...all the cool intricate playing that you used to balance against the harsh stuff like that is gone. Thats the kinda stuff that was missing from the KC show and I just hope it was a fluke night. ------ Anyone else who's seen a recent show notice this kinda playing missing? Is it the sound setup drowning things out or is Joe playing different?

cj, i would suspect the venue acoustics had a lot to do with what you heard. all the shows i saw were outstanding and every1 else is reporting the same. i have heard joe say the stage layout affect sound both on and off stage. sorry you had a bad night. those marshalls kicked it.

Michelle--Thanks for Cats Love Christmas. Now you know how many pages behind I am in the forum! We do love the kitties. I'm on Save a Cat application and I'm fostering a cat named Alannis. She is a beauty queen.....well maybe not a queen because she's had the sterization surgery as most have. I like the name Alannis.....reminds me of a guy from Ireland.....or not ;-) Can you believe it's so close to Christmas. I have one more 4 hour shift of work tomorrow, then no more until after Christmas!

Al, How you been keeping yourself? Any hot baths with candles? They do wonders in the depths of winter. Nice lights around a nice soak.......ahhhhh........Have you given the snow a good send-away with yer shovel? Yeah, we have had rain with some breaks in between storms. We have seen the sun now and again. Right now the sky is gray and threatening. Nice thing about rain is it fills up creeks and reservoirs. We get so dry here during the summer, we need as much rain during this season as we can get.

I hope your temps warm up so the snow melts and runs into the Liffey and other waterways. When we get snow, it's usually above 3000 feet elevation. It just gets colder here in the valley and rains......although when it rains the temps go up to 9 degreesC at least. You have been through crazy weather as has most of Europe........Germany, Austria and Switzerland must really be snowed under! Wonder what it's like in Holland. I'm sure it's ice skating time. I hope you can get outside and show the snow how you feel about it! ;-) Sorry about the troubles you've had with the web/net.

Hi Joe how you doing??....My name is Alex and i write you from Italy....I just had surgery on his left hand, the tendon of the 4th finger to a stenosing tendonitis (trigger finger). As you can imagine I play for many years and is the first time I have this problem. Now I have a little afraid it will not come back all right and I was wondering if a musician like you always play has never suffered from these problems. Sorry if I have not done the usual questions about aspects of musical technique but is due to the fact that I can not play And then I grew up listening to you and so do not know what to ask! Finally I say that the show in Milan last night It was great ..... your performance as usual superb and the choice of songs very guessed, memories, etc. hordes of Locusts. I'd listen rubina .. beautiful and relaxing maybe the next tour in Italy. thanks for letting me spend some of your time. Please answer me if possible.-Alex Canali

that leaves either Joe's choice of the way he played the songs or the theater setup. Either way it's too bad, but I'm glad everyone is having a good time. He's just been better. Maybe next time

Actually one thing I thought was pretty dumb was not playing Wormhole Wizards. I mean it's the title track. Thats like not playing surfing on the surfing tour, no extremist on the extremist tour, no cp on cp tour etc. Doesn't make sense. Anyone know why he hasn't played it since the European leg? Is the band bored of it already?
