Pip, let me just update you here so you don't have to read all those pages...

Joe was on tour but he's done now. Those of us that seen it had rave reviews. The Australians are still waiting. Recording with CF starts in a few days. Lots of great gig video links, and photo links. A few babies were born (Grandma Peace Lily & Uncle Al & prolly a few more I forgot). Al has returned from his US/Mexico tour 2011. Wolf has frozen testicles. The Steelers & Packers are going to the Super Bowl. Satriella's getting married. Millie met her Irish love Al. Bit of trouble in Tuson, AZ. Some water damage in Aussieland. Cube & his wifey are pregnant. Joe posted his end of the tour post.

That's pretty much it. Anybody - feel free to add whatever I missed.

Pippy, that red sleeping gown really brings out the color in yer eyes ;-)

Just came in from shoveling about 8 inches of snow from around the back, side, and front of the house. Not a good idea beings I'm struggling with this cold, but I didn't want to make my hubs do it all. That shit was heavy! I should be crippled on my right side when I wake up tomorrow. lol! I'm so damn right-handed. Maybe we'll be snowed in by morning and won't be able to get out of the garage to go to work :-)

So much for resting...

OK guys, here it is guys, my biggest regret in the last 20 years....Going to his latest concert in my town. .I saw Joe in concert on January 6th. I bought the ticket in October and was looking forward to the concert for over 2 months. I told all my friends that I could hardly wait for the big night of the great concert. He's my biggest guitar idol since I discovered him in the mid to late 80's. I have all his albums and listen to his great music almost daily. I've seen his live concerts twice and this was gonna be the third time in 20 yeras. I was so hyped about it....Joe's at the top of my list of great guitarists in my opinion...even ahead of steve Vai, Guthrie Govan, Andy Timmons and Greg Howe...and those guys are all legends in their own time.

But here's the kicker. I have a hearing condition callled tinnitus... For those of you who don't know what it is, I'll explain. It's a constant ringing in the ears that's present 24/7. It can vary from a mild ringing sound about the loudness level of a dooorbell to as loud as a roaring freight train. It has more than one cause, but a couple common ones are ear infections and long constant exposure to loud sounds and music, etc....I'm not really sure how I contracted the condition, but I've had it for about 25 years. It's been at a constant level of loudness and hasn't worsened over the years. It been at a level that's been fairly tolerable and hasn't caused me too much concern until now.

On the night of the concert I thought I'd play it safe and bring a set of ear plugs with me. I wore them most of the night, but took them out occasionally when Joe played some of my favorite songs....Well it turns out that I wasn't safe at all. The amplifiers that night must have been cranked near full volume! Way too loud for the size of the venue he was playing in. The theatre only held about 900 people and the equipment he was using could've provided enough sound for about 10,000 people....

So that's been my biggest regret in the last 20 years. Going to that concert that night.... It worsened the ringing sound in my ears to the point that I can't get a single second of silence... How I miss that sound... The sound of silence. I'd give anything to take that night back, but it's too late now.. I'd like to hear what Joe has to say about the issue. If you read this message Joe you can send a reply to danno175@ hot mail.com..... I don't blame you Joe, it's my own fault for not leaving the concert when I realized the volume level was way too loud... I just hope you take this message to heart and turn it down a notch or two at your future concerts...

I guess it's also a warning to the rest of you guys out there who might have tinnitus or hearing conditions that could get worse by going to a very loud concert.......Believe me, you wouldn't want to be going through the hell I'm experiencing right now! There's no cure for what I have and I have to live with this for the rest of my life....I guess I'll still keep playing guitar though (with the amp unplugged) untiI go deaf or completely fucking mad.................................

Joe, If you happen to read this by any chance:

It would be really great if you followed along the same line as Steve Vai with his Naked Tracks. I love your music so much and would really like to have some "quality" backing tracks to play along to.

I'm sure there are many others who also share my opinion.

Right now I'm currently spending time working on Down Down Down. Such a great song to learn. Not too fast, plenty of feel. Tons of emotion.

I'm not likely to see any responses posted here as I rarely keep up with all the messages. Email me though, if you ever respond to my request.

Regards, Owen.

Funkwood, Joe would hate to hear that yer hearing got worse. You REALLY should have kept the plugs in, especially knowing you have that problem. You might have been fine otherwise. Sometimes the loudness & sound depends a lot of where you're sitting. What sounds really loud at one spot, might not at another. Since yer ears were already sensitive, it might have sounded louder than it was? I'm not trying to say it wasn't loud. Joe shows are generally kickass & loud. Chickenfoot is even louder IMO. We did have a convo on here about earplugs - I think it might have been before Christmas? They're a must at most shows, even just to have them with you just in case. Hopefully the ringing will subside as time goes by. Sorry you wound up having a sucky side effect of a Joe show.

Anyways, nothing like risking yer life to get to work in the snow, then being sent home 4 hours later. lol! FTFF! I'm home & happy :-)

Just saw your gear reviews online with Premier Guitar and Music Radar. They were a lot of fun to watch. The new Marshall looks awesome. Your youtube channel rocks! If you ever come to Utah the Egyptian Theater in Ogden is the place to play. It reminds me of the Uptown in Kansas City. Hope all is well.

d12dan20 - I'm going to say it's 100% practice. I've never had a lesson, I certainly don't have any 'natural talent', and have been teaching myself for the last two years, and I'm actually starting to see big improvements in my playing now. I'll admit, I can tell that my technique is not perfect, and I've picked up some bad habits, but I'm trying to work myself out of them at the moment and it looks and feels like its working. It will probably feel really weird and unnatural to start of with, but just stick with it. You can do it!

I may have mentioned this before, but if your tinitus is that bad, then don't EVER attend anything involving Yngwie Malmsteen, even if it's just him and one amp!!!!! He only has one volume for playing, and from what i've experienced,it's everything on ten multiplied by everything on 10!!!! Nigel Tuffnel eat your heart out!!!!

Lmao Michelle.... you peeps just won't let the red gown thing go will you... well, I'm smiling so cheers

Madeoftears - hi, thanks for the note. I really wish I was there, it was such a cool time in 08 and I will be repeating. Hope to see you when I do

Thanks Skip, knew I could rely on you. Amazing how so many people have seen my arse, I'm such a private guy

Scuba - nice one. Amp day soon, excited for you

Funkwood - that's bad news. It clearly varies from venue to venue and country. For the UK dates I attended this year it was actually the quietest it's ever been and whilst it was still rocking out I didn't need plugs as I have done previously. Compare that with Reno 08 or Chickenfoot 09... plugs required for sure. Pretty sure it's down to the front of house sound team for the volume we get? Sorry to hear that anyway

Peace Lilly - that's great you're getting so much time with baby. I heard a great description for that affliction recently (wanting to hold so much)... but it's dropped right out of my head for now. Cool link, thanks

This is making me laugh - what the hell is that.... Dream Song improv outro... don't think that'll ever happen twice, no idea where it came from or how. Bemused
