I have some questions for everybody. Just kind of a quandary that got me thinking, because it has happened more than once. And this is not to be cynical or offensive in any way.

Why is America always doing the work for other countries when they have natural disasters??? The donations, the cleanup, the housing people from other countries who don't homes any more. Why don't other countries pitch in? Do they always expect us to do it? Are we always guilted into doing it because nobody else will????

And for the people in other countries. What do you think about this situation??? Do you think your country should do more or do you think they do enough, or do you think they shouldn't have to?

Let me know what your opinion is. I'm kinda curious. I know it sort of a heavy thought for a light and happy Friday, but this wasn't meant to turn into a debate. I could name at least three debates we've had within the last year. Everybody knows how tense they get. One thing is said and BOOM! Everybody's up in arms. But, if you guys want to debate, that's fine. Because debates are pretty fun.

Oxley- Why indeed. Although it's not limited to disaster cleanup; the last two wars are a shining example. I know we've had help from other countries, but clearly we have taken the brunt of it. There are other countries helping with the situation in Japan as well, but I see what you're saying. America has to be "big brother" and spend the most even though we are beyond broke.

Anyway, in guitar news, I found a used JS100 on craigslist for $300 yesterday. The owner e-mailed me back this morning and it is still available; I'm trying to set up a time to go look at it. I may try to bring him down on the price, even though he's come down from $350 already, because he bought it in 1999.

He told me that it has spent most of its life in the hardshell case. He also said that it has been professionally set up to Joe's specs, but haven't gotten clarification on what exactly that is yet. If USA didn't help out Saudi Arabia?? that is in charge oils for our gasoline for our country? we be without gas for auto in our country.

As for helping out in natural disasters? we don't have much choices because we are using other country goods and trades for our country, hoping this clears up on why our USA help out.

Why do we help out in natural disasters? #1 - because we can. #2 - Because it's the right thing to do.

Amazing weather here in PA too. I wish the whole summer would be like today.

Got Bonamassa's new album, Dust Bowl, in the mail yesterday... Giving it a listen right now. He says in the liner that this is the best album he's put out. I'm only halfway through it, but I'm impressed. I think my expectations were pretty low after I heard the title track a couple weeks ago; it is my least favorite so far, but "Black Lung Heartache" is on its 5th or 6th run-through right now. Can't get enough of that one! Lots of nice guitar work so far..
If you haven't ordered this one yet, I recommend that you do so!

I still need to pick up a copy of Sammy's "Red"....

The US is by no means the only country to donate money to Japan (or Haiti or Chile or wherever), but its total will almost always be the highest because of population/GDP.

slanshroom - The situation really has changed in the past 24 hours or so. I hope everything is under control soon, but panic (especially from people halfway around the world) doesn't do much to help. And really, someone saying there's "no possibility" of a disaster is just as wrong as someone on CNN/Fox/wherever saying people halfway around the world need to buy iodide tablets. I wouldn't believe either extreme at this point.

The steam that is (very slightly) radioactive that was vented at one of the plants shortly after the earthquake has reached the west coast of the US by now. I've seen some doomsday reports, but I wish people would stop and think. I get more radiation from the smoke alarm in my apartment than I'll get from walking outside today.

Anyway, back to the main point, things need to get better really soon.

I also didn't know that Sammy was such an entrepreneur earlier in his career. We all know about the tequila, but mountain bikes, clothing, fire sprinklers, and a travel agency? Pretty cool.

About Van Halen, it almost seems like Sammy hates DLR more than he does EVH. I don't think the words "David Lee Roth" appear in the book once, do they? Sammy just calls him "Roth" or "the previous singer", or talks about "before I joined the band". I thought that was odd.

I really think the book could have been 50 pages longer. It would have been nice to have more background on Chickenfoot, maybe by going into more detail about Planet Us before the VH reunion. And personally, I would've liked to hear more about how/why Jesse Harms left the Wabos. I liked him a lot.

Did you catch the part about Mick Brigden driving around Sammy and Montrose in France way back when? Or that the Bone in San Francisco was the first to play Sammy's demo tape? I thought those were cool tidbits, for Satch fans.
