It's so quiet here! What's everyone been up to?

I'm two weeks into my new job. It's nice to be working on a "normal" 8-5 M-F schedule and being able to go to concerts without having to take a day off...haha.

michelle - I've been REALLY into Grace Potter and the Nocturnals lately. I know we all know her from this, but I really wish people would check out more of her music. What a voice!

Does anyone here know of Zoe Keating? I saw her open for Kaki King a few weeks ago and was blown away (it's always a nice surprise when an opener does that). She plays cello, with a lot of loops and delays to build up a song that she then solos over. It's really impressive to watch. Joe, if you're reading this, have you heard her? She's from San Francisco.

For something that more people here will probably know/like, I think the new Mr. Big album (What If...) is quite good. Check out the lead single here. It really reminds me of For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge-era Van Halen. But more importantly, it's Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan...come on!

turbo236 - Black Country Communion are putting out the second album so quickly on purpose...I read something several months ago saying they didn't feel they could do a proper tour until they had two albums of material. I like that idea, but it bothers me that the album probably won't be out by the time I see them in Anaheim in early June.
GoldenGirl2 - I've been out of the loop for a while so I'm late with this, but I'm sorry to hear that you lost your job. I finally found a good full-time job again, after nearly two years (though I did have a part-time gig in the meantime). The economy has started to turn around, so I hope you're able to find something soon.

...Austin...

Hiya GoGi, glad to see yer still kickin'! Good luck on yer job search. Lots of peeps reading RED. It'll be a while (if ever) till I read that. I have a stack of 10 books on my desk to get through, + as soon as Nikki Sixx's book gets here, I'm gonna start that. Right now I'm reading Maya Angelou at home, and Stephen Colbert at work. I need his hilarity to get me though the day.I just don't find Sammy that interesting. What's actually going on here anyway?

Austin, I'll check yer links tomorrow. All my peeps are sleeping now.

looks like Joe is making a signature Marshall head. And he says the 2400 is he favorite guitar. So does that mean I should save up an extra $200 and go for the JS2400 instead of the JS1200?

Joe does a complete breakdown of everything he uses for a show. The interview was done at the Chicago Theatre just hours before I got there. linky

Austin- It's understandable that they would want to accumulate more material before they tour. My only beef about the first CF tour was that the songs off of the album definitely needed some rotation. Now for CF IV they will have to decide; do we play all of the songs off the new album or do we throw in some off CF I to keep the set list fresh. I would go with the latter.

Part of me wonders that if part of BCC's plan is to beat CF to the punch when it comes to the sophomore release.... I think sales of BCC's first album will suffer because of the way they've went about it, but I could be wrong.

The closest they are coming to Boise is Salt Lake City, Utah, about a 5 hour drive. I didn't like their album enough to go that far, so unless they add Boise to the list, it'll just have to wait. I'd rather see Bonamassa solo anyway. That's just me, though.

Guitarman- I'm no guitar whiz by any means, but if it were my money, I'd save up the extra $200 and go for the 2400. That gets you the full 24 frets, a pretty unique pickup combo with the slightly hotter Mo' Joe bridge p/u and the Pro Track single coil at the neck. Everyone has great things to say about them. Otherwise, except for the color, I believe they are exactly the same as the 1200's.

Master Satriani, Im just wondering if you have ever planned on releasing your music in "backtracks"? I know you will make money off of it, but Im willing to spend regardless. You the teacher, and releasing your music as backtracks, would benefit your guitar playing fans, as well as the young.

I have been searching for a backtrack of "Lords Of Karma" for almost 5 months now. I have found a real trashy one (almost MIDI sounding) but seriouslllyyy would be embarrassing to you.

And before I go on, for people that dont know what a "backtrack" is,. is its very similar to karaoke, but in the Masters case, since he dont sing, his guitar playing would be missing.

You can either sell online (individual, or whole CD) or have in record stores. For a CD of your backtrack, consisting of about 15 tunes, should go for about,,,,,$25 to $30 American dollars. Get ALL your tunes out there. Trust me Master it would sell.

And please, dont anyone just say "Hey, got to this site" The Master has been here for the world to listen to him, the least he should do is make a profit off it. I already have a few backtracks already, but the quality is just horrible.

Master Satch what do you think? I need "Lords of Karma" For some reason that song just has a hold on me. And if anyone know if he doing this ALREADY, can you email me at

dsbickford@yahoo.com

and title it "Satriani Backtracks" Please dont spam me. Just desperate for a legit, true quality backtrack version of "Lords of Karma" Im ready to spend money on it :)

Do The Stu - saw the Mr Big single when Billy tweeted it, I take it you follow him or not a fan?

I had seen Zoe Keating after she became a recomendation on twitter... Master Luini is following her so I guess he would have mentioned her to Joe too? Like her stuff, great you've seen her live already. Her bio says she did gigs at her warehouse... that would be cool to see

DavidFord - I may be misquoting but I am sure that topic has come up this week and I believe Joe feels all the songs are too personal to him and so won't release the backing only versions - pretty sure I read that here this week. Hope that helps

Pip55, Thank you for your reply :)

Mater Satriani, is this the case? Can a follower give some advice for a moment? As dreaded the day it comes to many of us, that you cant play anymore, or your time has come, you will have left planet earth, and left a legacy. You have empowered a lot of us, such as my self, to learn, play, or re-pick up the guitar again. There is a handful of people on this planet, that have not only, pleasured us in music, but have also contributed to music. You are one of them.

Im going to say a name, we all know. Les Paul. A man, not only blessed with the sound of music, but has also changed music. Most dont know, but the guitar was considered a joke-like instrument in its early days to music. When Les Paul and Mary Ford played for the world, future guitarist where being born. Les Paul has awed the planet to play. You have also done the same.

Master Satriani, I cant tell you the impact on music you have done. Their just isnt words. From being the teacher, to creating some great players, to inspiring, inventing and just the Master of music. You have done an immense force to the music industry. Why stop there?

The problem, we have, is music is still going to be written, after we are gone. Why is it a problem? I wont be here to enjoy it. Neither will you. Have the will, to leave earth, with more knowledge even after your gone. Because a future child will be born, that will listen to your music, and you will still be the teacher. Even if you dont do all your music on backtracks, leave knowing you left the world some kind of tool, they can continue to use.

Master, the world still uses tools and knowledge from the past. Why not be a part of that even more than you have? I know most of your music is personal. Why not look down from the heavens with one last smile? Their is currently an 8 or 9 year old boy (Tmann we call him) who is amazing on blues guitar. Do you know who he watched that got him to pick up the guitar? You!! You Master!! TMAnn says on a news broadcast, he watched a music video of Joe Satriani, and the kid is already a legend. You still have it in you.

Please reconsider your backtracks. Not one of us can take the music, the legends, the guitars etc with us when we go. Its possible, that in 100 years from now, someone is going to pick up the music sheets, backtracks, become a legend, and then be asked, how he/ she learned to play. His/her answer will be easy,,,,,,,,,,,,, "Master Joe Satriani"
