Peace, if he's truly serious, try not to go with the really cheap acoustic. That's what Chris started out on, a $100 Johnson I think it was. Played the snot outta it of course but in 4 months we were looking at electrics because the neck was separating from the body. Cheap, CheaP, CHEAP!! It ended up as rubble :)

Breedlove guitars are really wonderful and are actually made here in Oregon. They have fairly reasonable prices clear up to the not-so-reasonable. It just depends on what u wanna pay...but if you think it's something he's going to stick with, invest in a little better git that can stay with him for many years. Believe me, it pays off in the end.

That's a long way away from home, more power to him!!! Momma's got a new place to go visit, lol!!

So, it looks like Kenny Aronoff is our guy for the time being...

I don't know how many people are familiar with his work, but I thought I'd share a video of him from the John Bonham tribute I went to last year. I was right down in front; you can see me in some of the shots here:

Rock And Roll / Black Dog

I'll miss Chad, but Kenny is a great choice to fill in...

Mahavishnu - I did take some pictures at the Cliff Show II; I'll try to make some time this weekend to go through them all and share a few.

With Kenny Aronoff, maybe, just maybe, we won't have to wear a helmet & teeth guard to the shows this time around. Maybe!

Michelle- Congrats to your niece and others on the important milestone for the tribes.

I hate slugs too BUT they are not a bug......

they are a gastropod mollusk......... and are

DISGUSTING slimey critters ;-)

And thanks for continued input on guitar purchase...I think my daughter's boyfriend is gonna help me with choosing. He plays acoustic , & expressed an interest in helping me pick one.

Camping this weekend....& riding my four wheeler ....beautiful weather for it . Should be fun! :-)

I'm over 100 miles inland, but they're saying we're going to get slammed too. It should be down to a cat. 1 by the time it hits here. They're calling for heavy rain & wind sustaining 20 to 40 mph with gusts to 60, and possibly thunder/lightening. That's a lot of wind! Lots of talk about NJ & NY getting hit way hard. If it is that strong this far up the coast, all the beach front places will be obliterated, and Long Island is in deep shit. A lot can change in 2 days. Gotta put away all the outside furniture, plants, and whatnot, make sure the rain spouts & gutters are clear, and along with the rest of the east coast - get some groceries. They're saying to take pictures of yer property so you can have before & after pics for yer insurance company.

God bless those on the coast. It's gonna get ugly.

Should be interesting to say the least.

Listening to the Chickenfoot III preview on iTunes, there are a few songs that jumped out at me as being interestingly good.

First one was Different Devil which I liked a lot, because it was a country-like ballad with some of Joe's nice Hendrix infuenced blues licks in the background.

Second one was Come Closer. It's a soft, almost jazzy piece of music. It almost reminds of something Sting would do. Sting Tommorow We'll See

Third and last one was Something Gone Wrong. It has a nice, acoustic riff which kinda reminds of The Charlie Daniels Band. And what I heard was another classic Joe blues solo which is always nice.

The others didn't jump out at me, but that doesn't mean they're bad. I just have to listen to them in their entirety to get the full effect. And Up Next sounds like the riff to Purple Haze.

RE Chickenfoot III

May not be darker in the traditional sense of the word ............ but bluesier (is that a word ?) and a bit more range for Sams voice on some songs. I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked the samples.

Can not wait for the cd to drop and be able to listen to the songs in full . :-)

P. Lily, so sorry about yer camper. Man that had to be scary! Hope you didn't have to much stuff in it. See, now if you would have had a motor home full of slugs, the moisture content would have put out the fire before it got out of control. Slugs are yer friend!

I love the Chickenfoot III samples...

Some songs are definitely heavier, but there's a poppier side to everything too. I think Alright Alright, Different Devil, or Something Gone Wrong would make a great single for mainstream rock radio.

I like Mikey's bass part on Come Closer. I like the R&B vibe of that one (of the sample, anyway). Dubai Blues has a cool bass part too.

I felt like the first Chickenfoot album was a great "driving fast" album...based on these samples, this sounds like it might be a great "driving in a convertible with the top down" album.

I don't want to form an opinion of the full album based on samples, but it does sound bluesier all around. I also think it sounds much more mature than a band's second album.

Is it release day yet?

DTS, I agree with your "more mature" comment. The spoken piece on "Three And A Half Letters" was haunting. "Something Gone Wrong" starts of great, sounds like a real toe taper and head bopper.

I like all the bass riffs Michael is playing. I too will withhold judgment until I get to hear more of what Joe is bringing.

Definitely true, is it album release date yet??

I enjoyed all the samples, tangibly different to Foot I except Tree And A Half Letters which reminded me of Avenida Revolucion.

I think Different Devil has similarities to the Rolling Stones (Start Me Up?) does anybody hear that too?.

Joe is great on all of them of course.

Trouble with samples is that's exactly what they are, samples. They can be selected to give an idea of the general vibe but they can also be selected to lead you completely up the garden path as it were. However, i'm sure CF3 will be much better than CF1. It would be hard not to be.
