Peace Lily: If the Jeff Beck interview were from a more distant vintage, it would be excusable. However, it was in 2010.

http://guitarinternational.com/2010/06/08/jeffbeck/

Joe always praises Jeff Beck. Even if Jeff Beck truly believes what he said, he was far from being a gentleman.

Too bad. In my opinion, Jeff Beck has not written music in about 25 to 30 years that is on a par with what Joe has consistently produced for over twenty years. To then use his iconic status to undermine Joe is something for which I have no respect.

Thanks,

Nick

I don't see where Jeff slighted Joe, just didn't heap high enough praise? Jeff is amazing and so is Joe. Each in their own way.

Castle - IMO you're not far off the mark there girlie. Further to that I have to agree with some of what Beck says regarding too much going on too quickly sometimes, having said that it's great sometimes when I revisit some of Joe's stuff and I think 'bugger me, I never noticed that before', I get there in the end i suppose. Mebbe what Beck means is that some of Joe's (and his peers) stuff is simply too good for the ears of the masses at first listen and that will affect how he is remembered by the masses (or not so much). Chickenshit oops I mean Chickenfoot may help change that with the broader appeal it seems to have..

Nick Satullo- The excerpt from the interview gave me the impression that it was an older interview....the date does change things up a bit. It may be sacrilege to say but I do prefer Joe's compositions to Mr. Becks . However I have not listened to all of Jeff Beck's songs either. So my opinion may be prejudiced. :-).

When I discovered Joe's music, I went into a hiatus of listening to only his music for well over two years. I am all over the place in the music I listen to, but I've never been as captivated by one musical artist as deeply or as long.

So I admit to some bias, particularly when confronted by those who may not be as impressed with his music. That said, I have always been impressed by people like Brian May, a great guitarist and composer in his own right, who is not threatened by others like Joe or Steve Vai, and is willing to share the stage with them. If you want to see something positively awe-inspiring, check out the rendition of Hey Joe, from the Guitar Legends of '92 in Barcelona, with Joe, Steve Vai, Brian May, Joe Walsh, Paul Rodgers on vocals, Cozy Powell on drums, and some awesome background vocals.

I've been frankly surprised by the lack of generosity of spirit by people like Beck, Clapton, or Jimmy Page. It's not that they need to make it their mission to promote him, but it seems like they've gone out of their way to avoid direct comparisons with him. Clapton has his Crossroads thing, and I don't see Joe ever appearing, though I'd hope he's at least been invited. If he hasn't been invited, well, that's my point.

The people that gravitate to this site generally share the sense that Joe's music and his talent are so very special, but he has been willing to share the spotlight so many times. I wish that others would show the courage and integrity that people like Joe and Brian May exude.

Thanks,

Nick

Castle - Unfortunately we won't see them on Christmas Day this year. They are off to Egypt on hols, me and the wife have decided to go on hols too, but we're going to the Canary Islands for Christmas and New Year. First time we've been alone together at that time of year, i'm sure it will be a little wierd.

What no A Lewis posts? :)

Cheese - oops, I know somewhere you asked me about bikes and I did say anytimes Chrispy wants, sorry if I let you down somehow - am not normally like that. He can email away etc

Cubist - wow, that's some hard work and dedication, well done. Now, if you could post some of that loss over here I seem to be having an issue in the opposite direction - sheesh

Two Shay - it was a global cyber hug, I'm sure you could have fitted in between two ladies if the man hug was objectionable lol

Peace, Chelle, Cheese and anyone I missed - thanks for the hugs. Perfect for keeping spirits up. Shout for one if you need it... surprised Blue Moon didn't get in on a bit of hug action :-b

justjoan - ello stranger

igneousiceman - ello mate, ow's it going?

Nick Satullo - on the JB front, I can only recall him saying similar about AWMAWY back in Guitar Player magazine and for such a great and beautiful ballad I thought it was mean spirited at the very least. I have a feeling it was around the time that SWTA became the biggest selling instrumental album so maybe that had something to do with it?

Either way, everyone has their own tastes in everything, me included, so it's up to whoever. I've hardly listened to any beck so can't really comment on his music
