Jamie - if I had known you were going an hour earlier I would have arrived earlier instead of half an hour early. I tried chatting to the people going in and out but they didn't want to talk. If I knew what you looked like it would have been easier I guess. We sat dead centre row J.
Thanks for the 2012 tour Joe!!

Michelle - I totally understand what your saying but as we Aussies say fair dinkum everyone has problems i don't need to hear what depression is all about been there myself and honestly 99 out of 100 people have these days we hit a point in life where ya have a sense of worthlessness but like i said and will say again it doesn't take balls the size of Texas to do yourself in it takes balls the size of the US to stick around and deal with what this world throws at ya and to just up and do such a selfish act with no regard for who you leave behind there is no other word for it but selfish and as for love and love some more your damn right i feel sorry for his friends and family left behind and the rest of the people in this world who love to live and cherish everyday whether good or bad.

Chelle honey, I feel your pain and wish I could take it all from you. So much to deal with all at once. I hope E's friend will be okay, how awful for her to have to go through so much at such a tender age. And for momma, much love and prayers to you all, no matter what comes or when. Love ya.

I wouldn't go so far as to call suicide selfish. It's not like these people are in their right mind at the time. Trust me, I've been there more than once; just haven't pulled the trigger. I struggle with really bad depression and PTSD from the war every single day, and like I said, many times I have been to the point that I thought the best thing for me was to kill myself. Not because one particular thing set me off. Not because my life sucks or any such thing like that; but because I live with demons in my head, nightmares in my sleep, obsessive habits that I can't shake, yada, yada, yada. The one thing that's kept me hanging on is the thought of not wanting to put my wife through another suicide (her dad died that way). Do I have life insurance? No. Do I consider the $20,000 in debt that I've accumulated this year or any other burden it would place upon her? No. I don't think that makes me "selfish". But, like I said, I'm in a different world at that point. All I can think about is why I should die and then I weigh my options. Fortunately, so far I've managed to talk myself out of it every time.

I don't think anybody truly WANTS to kill themselves, there just happens to be a chemical imbalance in their brain or other contributing factors that lead them to believe that suicide is the only out and that's when you forget about leaving your family behind and all the bad stuff that they are stuck with.

I'm not trying to say that suicide is right by any means, i'm just saying that it definitely isn't selfish when you look into it a little deeper and try to understand it from that persons perspective.

Sorry for the rant.....

Ian

TurboIan, it's not right by any means. I agree. It's a bad decision made in a split second. You have to have a mantra or something for those times. Something that keeps you HERE. I know it gets rough, but I hope your memories fade, you get the help you need, and you and your wife grow old together. I'm so sorry you thousands of others had to - and still have to- go through that.

Jamie, I understand your anger. Fair enough.

Hellfredo, that was nice, thanks.

T-Bones, hugs.

Ally, congrats for your fancy achievement and certification. You're cramtastic in a pinch!

McD, thanks.

castle, he's kind of in denial. It seemed that he understood the clear message the doctor gave us yesterday, but then later in the day when I saw him again and we talked, he didn't want to discuss the issues that we're coming up on. He also keeps putting things off for "later". He's over tired, not eating right, under stress, and scared. My niece took dinner to him at the hospital tonight. We all have to keep an eye on him. Thanks for asking.

My dad has dementia, and when my mother died on their vacation to Antartica/South America, though he was there he still does not understand where she is. He cannot process the information, or does not want to.

He's doing OK Michelle. I did not know much about it until the fateful trip. I found a great place for him that is very homelike and he has taken over the duties of taking care of the birds and the neighbor's cat. My mom never wanted pets and he is a lifelong animal lover. That part of him remains. Horrible disease though.
