Satchurated - I saw a civilian (as opposed to a Joe fan) review that said the first five or so tracks were not that good and neither was the camera work, and that the rest was fairly good but not outstanding. The blu ray version BTW. Annyhoo what does anyone here say about the blu ray version?

This is a request for details from "Flying in a Blue Dream" notes. Could someone who has this album (I mean a physical copy of course) take a look at the credits, and post a reply saying what, if anything, Daniel Levitin is credited with? And if Joe is reading, what creative contributions (if any) did Daniel Levitin make to this or any other of your albums? He claims to have co-designed your sound but I smell a rat.

Two Shay- He was reviewing the cinema release as (obviously) the Blu-Ray hasn't been released yet. If you look above his review, you'll see that 0 of 8 or 9 people found it to be helpful, and in the comments section below the review, I outright told him that. I don't think it's right to review a product before it is released. Besides, the theater mix will be different than the Blu-Ray (I'm assuming) because the theater mix was cut short for time, so several songs were missing. I think the review should be taken down; just my two cents.

Just got back from Guitar Center. Picked up a set of Ernie Ball cobalt strings to see what all the fuss is about. They only had a set of hybrids in stock, so those will have to do. They also had Ice 9's on clearance for $99, so obviously I had to get one of those. The salesman told me that Vox was trying to get rid of them, I wonder if they're peeved that Joe isn't actually using them anymore? Oddly, the Satchurator was still $129, but I've seen it at various places for $99 as well, you just have to look around.
I'm off for a sandwich and to re-string the JS... maybe try this new pedal out as well!

bunjee5- Unless I looked right over it, I do not see that name among any of the several album liner notes I looked at...

Ian

EDIT- But he is probably telling the truth to you. I did find this:
He worked as a producer and sound designer on albums by Blue Öyster Cult, Chris Isaak, and Joe Satriani as a consultant to Steely Dan and Stevie Wonder; and as a recording engineer for Santana and The Grateful Dead.

Also: As a long-time pursuer of interesting guitar tones, Levitin developed custom-modified guitar amplifiers for albums by Blue Öyster Cult, Joe Satriani, Chris Isaak and others. In all, Levitin has been awarded 17 gold and platinum records.

Listen to Nicki Minaj's song, "Right Thru me" and see if you hear anything similar to "Always With Me, Always with You". First Coldplay now this talentless hack.

turbo236 - thanks very much. That's what I suspected (that he is nowhere credited on the actual album and this is a made-up after the fact kind of thing)

Turbs - Looking further I see what you mean. I've been working overseas without much net availability so what is obvious to you is not to me. Dunno why Amazon allow reviews of things that have not been released yet.

Cheers

vinchenzo71, Nicki asked for Joe's permission before she used his song - and he thinks what she did with it is pretty cool.

To hack, or not to hack? Just say pretty please.

I'm lovin' this!

Two Shay- I didn't mean to imply that it should have been obvious to you; sorry it came across that way. I was just saying that it won't be released until April 10th, so obviously this guy hasn't seen it yet. And I do agree, Amazon should not allow reviews to be posted before an item is released, it just doesn't make sense. Now Joe's DVD and Blu-Ray both have a nasty three-star rating and they won't be out for another month. Beats the hell outta me...

Amazon sent me an email to say the release date for Joe's latest DVD has been pushed back by two weeks.

Boooooooooooooo :(((( but I guess I'll live. Darn it.

In other news, we got Chrispy critter all signed up to participate in the Gran Fondo race in Bend, OR early August. He decided since this would be his first official race, to go for the medium length one, 50 miles as opposed to either 20 or 80. I'm betting next year will be full out 80 miles. He's been busy training himself for months but NOW is stepping it up even more with an official entry. It's pretty darned exciting...and you should see the muscles on his legs...he could be a body double (waist down) for Arnold Schwarzenegger in his body building days, lol!! MASSIVE! We go on bike rides together and he really has to dumb it down for me, LOL!! Gotta admire his dedication and drive :)

Funeral Saturday for my friend/co-worker's lil momma. Circle of life but this sure ain't the fun part.

Pip,

I think you asked me about the JSX amp before and I told you the FX loop sucked. Well, I stand corrected, it was the crummy effects I had plugged in to the thing that did all the sucking. I re did everything this week and used decent pedals instead. Now it sounds wonderful! I still sense a volume discrepancy between switching channels but that is something that can be fixed easily!

Anyway, that's it!

Two Shay- Not sure if you caught this one, but Do The Stu was able to attend the pre-screening of the show, which was the same edit as the theater mix as I understand, and this is what he had to say:
Hi everyone...

I was able to catch yesterday's sneak preview of Satchurated 3D (Thanks to mikesb for hooking me up with a ticket!), and I wanted to stop by here and share a few words about it.

In one sentence, this rivals Live In San Francisco as my favorite Satch recording.

The video is shot differently than most live DVDs I've seen, which is quite refreshing. There's no fast cutting from shot to shot, and there aren't too many extreme close-ups of band members. A lot of the cameras were positioned in a way where you see the stage edges and walls of the theater, which I thought was a nice touch. And in some of the shots from the back, you can see the heads of the people standing up front, just at the lip of the stage. So you really feel like you're in the venue watching the show. I also like how most of the shots include several band members. There were a lot of Joe/Jeff/Allen/Galen shots from one end, or Joe/Mike shots from the other end. You can see everyone doing their thing and it's great.

The 3D is not distracting at all. It's not gimmicky (no pointing of guitar necks at cameras, etc.); with the way the film was shot it really just adds to the feeling that you're in the venue. The crowd is in front, then Joe, then Jeff, then the video screens are in the back.

I love the audio mix. Mike was up there pretty high, but not so much as to distract from Joe. And Jeff's toms sound great in theater surround sound.

The version we saw was only 90 minutes long (I assume this is the theater cut that we'll all get in March), but the credits list the full setlist so the in-store release should have everything. It was disappointing that the theater edit left out some of my favorite songs (Memories, Dream Song, Why), but I'll just have to wait for that. Pyrrhic Victoria was awesome, though! :-)

...Austin...

Apart from that, I've not seen a review about it on any part of the web. (Well, except for the noob on Amazon.com). I can say that the Blu-Ray (which I contacted Amazon about to have them list as 3D you may notice now) and the DVD both list a running time of 120 minutes; that's a half-hour longer than the theater cut. Plus, the Amazon page shows the DVD and Blu-Ray as being 2-Disc versions instead of 1, so I assume there will be plenty of bonus footage for us to enjoy as well. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for some un-edited tracks from Live in Paris.... Just like..22 of them!
