Dear Joe (or really anyone out there who's a guitarist and knows what they're doing), I've been playing guitar for 1-2 years now and have been improving pretty quickly (mainly because I've been playing classical piano for 8 years and know all of the theory); my question is simple; how do you improve on guitar? I've taken and am currently taking lessons, but not from someone who's an actual "teacher" (as in, his main job/passion isn't teaching.) It seems like most guitar teachers simply ask what song you want to learn/practice for the next week or two, you learn the chords/modes and scales for soloing, and then you learn it and take several licks from it. This is a bit of a change after learning classical piano (which I'm still doing) in which you are assigned the songs you need to know in order to build up the next level/tier of songs; you notice the difficulty of songs increase every set of songs you learn, which can take a full 6 months to a year to master by memory. To me, at least, it seems like the classical piano style of learning is the better way to go (as in, either getting assigned what you should learn [but still something that you like] and build up the difficulty). Is this correct? After all, Jimi Hendrix and Pearl Jam can only get so hard, and sooner or later I would stop improving. I've started to listen to music like yours, Eric Johnson's, and Rush's a a lot and I'm starting to learn some of it as it seems more difficult (and just as importantly, it's amazing music.) Thanks to anyone that helps. God Bless.

Hi Joe my name is Alexander Brown. My father is retiring from the United States Air Force after serving his country for 28 years. You are his greatest inspiration to start playing guitar he has been a huge fan of yours since the 90's It would mean the world to him if we could provide him a piece of Joe Satriani memorabilia to celebrate his retirment.

Thank you Alexander Brown

Joe, thanks for a FANTASTIC evening in Hamburg on the 24th! It was a family night out for us, as my wife and son (21) came along as well. Great venue, and you guys must have been bringing good vibes and weather with you. Next time you and G3 tour Germany, come to BERLIN, PLEEEEASE - it's the coolest and craziest place in Germany, and has a very vibrant music scene. Love to see you guys in our home town!

Hey Joe! I just wanna show you something...you see..not only Coldplay copied one of your song but now I see that even Nicki Minaj copied Always with me always with you on her "song" RIght thru me. Take a look, it's the main riff from Always with me Always with you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FJO6b8GL3M here's the link! Hope you do something about it..I can't stand the fact that my favorite musician gets copied by a such untalented person.

Keep on rocking! Florin

hey joe,

i build guitar effects/amps as a hobby and for muscians. i read your earlier post about how effects crap out and you cant fix or replace it. its usually because the chip goes to crap and they dont make that one anymore. for example the sad 1024 bbd used in flangers are no longer made and impossible to find. Is there an effect that doesnt work that you would like to get working again? I have tons of schematics for all effects, all commercial brands. maybe i can buld ya one?? the sad 1024 is replaced by the mn3007 so, you can work around obsolete parts but you have to make another circuit board to compesate the new part. no problem there for me.

also i build a kickass flanger and would love to decal the casing like the surfing with the aliens album cover, i built one for myself and it looks awesome. I just wanted to ask permission to use it on my customers pedals so im not infringing on any copyrights.

thanks for your time, you rock :)

What a beautiful evening at St Julien. Thank U so much!

I hope there'll be soon a blu ray from there ;) I wait... U, Steve Vaļ and Jeff are in my heart and in my head every day. What a great pleasure to wake up very early for work and listen you for a couple of hours in car. People use to ask me: JC,how can you always be happy? The answer is: Satriani at loud! I discovered you one day by mistach 15 years ago. I was looking for Michel Pettrucini and I fall on Pettrucci and you. Your music was the one I was waiting for. It did exist, but I didn't know. It was exactly what I like! since this moment, I have all of your music. And wait for new songs that I legally download in real time, before buying the cd or dvd.

Big kiss to Jeff, my favourite drumer who gave me the passion of drum. I also try to play bass guitar and piano.

Dear Joe, I have been a fan of yours, ever since purchasing "Not of this Earth". You truly are the greatest guitarists that God ever created. My favorite song is "Circles". The reason is I have never heard a song where the start is melodeic, then all of a sudden it's like going from 0-100 in a split second. I still get goose bumps when I listen to it! My second favorite song is "I like the rain". I pray that you have accepted "Jesus Christ" as your Lord and savior so that I and other fans can continue in eternity to listen to your exceptional playing ability! You know that His return is soon! Keep playing your heart out Joe, And remember you are truly loved. Many Thanks, Rick

Joe, me and my friend Dusan Jovanovski from Macedonia travel all the way to Vigevano, Italy and enjoyed G3 Live so much. It was the most exciting concert we've seen in our life!

I want to thank you for accepting my gift - the hat that I throw before you leave the stage. I made it myself and my mother helped me a little. I hope you will wear it one day and it fits your head :-)

Keep on rockin' young Joe!!!

Thanks.

Hey Joe, I'm from Hungary, Budapest. I have ticket to the G3 show. Is there any chance that you sign my son's JS 1200 guitar somehow? After the show or somewhere else? It would be a great present to him. Please let me know I would really appreciate it.

Thanks and can wait to see you again in the Hungarian arena!

See you soon, Tom

Dear Joe, Met you a long time ago more than once but you were a kid then a young man and hanging out and just practicing your guitar. Your mom and I were best friends for as long as I can remember. We had many conversations about you. Back then I was the art teacher at Drexel Ave and she was a 4th grade teacher. i did so many things with her. Kay was so proud of you and so proud to have an "international" family. I just loved your mom so much and I have since moved to New York(upstate) She would have been proud to know I am still teaching and a number of years ago adopted a child who came to me homeless. It is quite a miracle story. I don't have any friends now in Sea Cliff where you grew up but some of my friends I still keep in touch with on the island. Because I am a single mom and for a number of reasons I lost touch with your mom, but recently woke up one day and tried to connect and it was too late. I am so sorry about your mom, but there was no one more wonderful in the school or dedicated than Kay, whom everyone loved. I would love to see, talk anything with you .... I am wondering if you remember me.... I am still wild, running around with my little boy Marcello, who is now 8. Congratulations on your successes and I hope to hear from you... Susan and Marcello(my son) my cell 917 612 5205 Keep surfin!
