Hello Joe,

I'm a guitar player from Buenos Aires who gave three masterclasses in mid-May at EMBA and TAMABA, two local music schools, with Steve Rothery from Marillion, when the band came to play at Gran Rex that same month. All three guitar clinics were successful, in which Steve made demonstrations of his style and equipment, and I interpreted him and got in charge of the creation of backing tracks for the pieces we were supposed to play together: "Old Man Of The Sea" (Steve Rothery Band) and the "Easter" solo section (Marillion).

Would you be interested in giving guitar clinics at these schools in late-September, when you’re in Buenos Aires for the Gran Rex concerts? This if everything is possibly arranged for that, that is. Steve and I had a great time, so did the principals of EMBA and TAMABA, let alone their students.

In order for you to listen to my playing, here are two different covers: "Circles", in which I play the electric guitar, and "Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness", in which I play acoustic. The “Circles” international/virtual collaboration project (Argentina, USA and Finland) was directed by me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyfY28EfhGM (Circles)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCSuRGTz7FQ (Rubina’s Blue Sky Happiness)

Besides those two videos, here’s a clip that the people at EMBA captured during the first Steve Rothery clinic, which features both of us playing together “Old Man of the Sea” (my guitar solo starts at 1:17):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1WT31naFEA

Hope you enjoy the covers, and if you think it's possible to make these guitar clinics happen (or at least one of them) let me know so I message the schools' principals and see if they can held yet another masterclass this year.

See you on September 27th, as I already have tickets for the show. ;)

Best wishes,

Claudio

Hey Joe, i was wondering why you don't film the recording sesssions of you albums. And release it like an extra or documentary. I would have loved seeing you play some of my favorites like Clouds Race accross the Sky or War. But the one i would have enjoyed the most is The Power Cosmic 2000 (search this on Youtube "The Power Cosmic 2000 Guitar Hero, some guy created the gameplay on his computer to this song, it's CRAZY) i don't play guitar but gravitate to songs with heavy guitar rifs, especially instrumentals.

Hello Joe, I am in a desperate need of help, witch only you can provide. I don't think you will do what i ask of you, but I still need to say it, because i still try to believe in (some of) my dreams. You have no reason to help me, and i now you certenly have better things to do, so don't waist your time reading what folows, it will be long, boring and useless to you.

With this said, if you chose to read, i will now explain what the reason this post is. The topic is a woman ( what else ? ). She was my girlfriend two days ago, it had been 1 year and two month we where together and it was the only time when i could say that i felt something a gratitude to be alive and exactly where i where, something i never experienced before in my 18 years of "life". But then, one of my friends started telling lies in my back, and especially to my gierlfriend (he was her best friend). Smelling a chance, another of my friends (I had only three male friends... now i have only one, besides, he got your pick at Carcassone but that's another story. ) My girlfriend threw me out 3 days befor the end of high scool,, but menaged to keep my at a distance only until the next afternoon, where the distance was to torturing for both of us, we secretly began to meet again, to avoid the other people's talking, who were clearly draging us down... until the point where my second friend tried again to come closer to her, during the anniversary party of my only f( male) friend is still have. I was to busy playing ice nine, until we say goodbye, summer song, time machine, surfing with the alien, dream song and cryin' on the small stage we had, to have an eye at him. So abviously she had to tell him we where together again. I the next houre everyone knew. We stayed together the whole vacassions, seeing each other once every 1-2 weeks for a few day's, until the day befor yesturday. She came to my knew appartement in Toulouse (France), and said that she could not continue because of the distance. I was to study philosophy in Toulouse, and she was going to Bordeaux for marketing studies. She wanted to start a new life, she wanted to fly, and i was a cage. She gave all the love her Hearth could afford to give, and now she needed time for her. She said that she still loved me, but that she needed time for herself. But i hear a small chance to bring her back to me, or more precisely to go to her, because she wanted to see me again, after University started. In my pain i grabed a pen and one of my guitars and started writing a song. It's the only way to free me from what y feel, and perhaps even a way to bring her back to me. So, if you read until now, that's where you come into play, it's now 1 and 1/2 year ago that I started listening to your music, and the only thing y have now. What i ask of you is crazy... but i will ask anyway, because if you do not know an issue, who would than ? Perhaps you could write that song, now that you have all those détails, or you could listen to mine and help me to improve it, or else give a call to my girlfriend or.. i don't know... i juste felt that you could help me in this, and unlike most of the other musicians, i realy feel that you play with emotion, not with money, so I thought that the Universe was cruel enough to me, and perhaps would give my a glipse of hope where I don't see any ... I really have the sily hope you will help me... perhaps the ethernal gratitude of a human beeing, not only for your Music, but also for you as a person, is worth something to you... well, that was all i have to say, really hope you read this. In case you don't, just continue as you did before, never stop playing your songs, and please come up with more cryin'-down,down,down-I'll put a stone on your cairn-isch songs. With great hopes and best wishes, Julien.

Hi Joe, a very close friend of mine lost their brother early Sunday morning (8/31). While on the hospital bed the family asked him if he wanted any music playing. He picked out his favorite artist and played your music until he passed. He was a HUGE fan! Would you be willing to sign an album for the family with something along the lines of "In loving memory of Mike"? That would be such an amazing tribute and would bless this family big time. Please let me know if this is a possibility.

Many thanks!

Hey Joe, I need some quick advise. I am a beginner who used to dabble in college and recently decided to learn how to play for real last year. My friends think I am nuts as I just turned 48 and decided to learn some songs - your songs. They say I should have started with more 'simple' stuff, but hey - I've been a huge fan since 87' so why not learn some Satch tunes.. With Tab sheet music available now in addition to YouTube - its easier then in my college days to learn music like yours. My question, how do you remember the order of all the notes? Always with me...,for example. I have the entire first half of the song down now - but in pieces. I can play the first part, the second, third, the tap and hammer run (this is how I organize them in my mind). I can play them all well - individually. I am finding it hard to play the next 'part' in sequence - running them all together to play a song in real time... Do you have a technique for remembering an entire song that has hundreds if not thousands of notes and runs??? Is there a technique, or is it just simple practice, playing the song thousands of times, burning it into memory?

Any help is appreciated.

To Mr Satriani, OMG, fan since first live album. I've been to all your Detroit shows, and the last at the lslk Good job with Kirk, I think he turned out OK. Big favor Mr Satriani, I LOVE the JS2410, but I am a lefty. Any chance you could recommend they make a few lefties. I think they would sell. Maybe you could do some signed 2410's both righty and lefty. And the profit go to charity??? I'd be first in line. Thank you for considering.

Your answer is very simple...

Think of instrumental as you would a vocal track but replace the vocals with lead guitar.

The second thing you must do is learn a scale. Most common for me is the GMajor scale GABCDEF#G. You need to learn this from open all the way up to the second octave.. You MUST learn a scale. It'll make learning and remembering songs very easy and you can eventually improvise or play parts of a song in a different position which might sound better or hard to play off the tab. Even tabs are wrong too. When you learn scales you'll realise you can play parts of a song in so many different ways.

But the fundamental thing is.. you must have the music inside you!! Be in the zone for those few minutes and just express yourself.

This is a joke. How about a forum that is really interactive like every other forum on the net so fans can really interact with each other? This is total B.S. I come to this site once every 3-4 years because it's so poor. Really a shame. Pink Floyd and Iommi have better forums.
