The G3 concerts are a lot of fun but I do believe something different should happen. I mean Steve Vai and Joe Satriani is a wonderful idea and is so much fun to watch, but Ingwie Malmsteen and John Petrucci are not adequate for this type of show. Eric Johnson was very different (a great thing!). And that's what the G3 needs. You need someone like Ron Thal. He is a great musician, guitarist and so much fun and I am sure all three parties can only gain from it. Of course I am talking for DVD recording especially because I do feel the G3 concerts that were not filmed might have been the most fun. Just a suggestion. Hope you find it illuminating.

Hey Joe,

It seems everyone has only good things to say about Super Colossal. I don't. I am actually extremely disappointed. I feel I have lost the one guitarist who gave me the inspiration up until your self titled album which was by the way my all-time favorite. Super Colossal is a very dull and bland album. No character. No real melody. No Satch! As happy as I was to hear about the G3's because it's a dream come true to every real guitar fan, as much I am now sad it ever happened. You would think that being exposed to all those different styles would bring even more positive creativity and ideas to your style. It seems it has killed it. You no longer sound like Joe. You sound like all the other guitarists around. Same thing with Steve Vai. I am sorry to be so negative but with the start of Crystal Planet, you no longer sounded as unique. Some rhythms are very interesting on Super Colossal and I do see this as very positive but the melodies are dead. I hope my comments will be read positively as I will keep the hope that Satch will be back. Don't get me wrong, we all change and grow and I do not expect you to stay the same, but grow within your style and feel. I saw you live in France on your Surfing with the Alien tour (I had first row) and you BLEW my mind and you kept doing so until your self-titled album with that great rhythm section you had. I suggest you play with such calibers on your next release. I am sure they would help bringing out the best in you. Good luck

Gruskada, Glad to know that someone else finds it bland. When i said he sounds like all the others, i meant he has parts of vai, schenker, hoey, shepherd, petrucci, etc... He has been too infuenced. Listen to guys like Ron Thal, Blues Saraceno, Michael Lee Firkins (although he's getting repetitive and boring), but you can immediately know it's them. That's how it used to be with Joe.

davealan,

i knew my post was going to get some angry replies but the message was intended for Joe. you obviously didn't read my post carefully. Nothing wrong with change as long as it's a positive one. Also as for musicians i was talking about, i meant manu katche and nathan east. no fixation there!

davealan,

if you are a musician, you should know that playing or jamming or composing with others is very different depending on who you do it with. I simply believe that the combination of joe with manu and nathan brings out the best in joe's music and playing. Probably what also made a difference was the glyn johns production on the self-titled one. Maybe what i started disliking when crystal planet came out was eric caudieux. I saw no point in adding this guy. Of course had eric not been there the album would have been VERY different. Even if another key player was there instead. Each musician adds to a song differently, whether positive or negative. That is why I suggested manu and nathan. That's all.
