Hello to Joe and to all...

On the chance that Joe may see this, I have a question/idea for you....

With the success of the G3 tours, have you thought about making an album with contributions by other instrumental guitaists?

I know this is not normally your thing, since you like to do the majority of your albums yourself, but I think there could be some great collaborations with some of these guitarists from the past.

Here are a few suggestions -

Musician - album(s)

Marc Bonilla - EE Ticket, American Matador Blues Saraceno - Never Look Back, Hair Pick Vinnie Moore - Out Of Nowhere, (Many others) Stanley Jordan - Flying Home, (Many others) Michael Lee Firkins - Chapter 11 Frank Gambale - The Great Explorers, (Many others)

Just a thought.... It could be The Guitar Concepts Album.

I am 35 and have been playing since I was 17, and a fan since I was 19 after a chance viewing of 'Satch Boogie' on MTV (Yes they actually did play music videos once). I picked 'Surfing With The Alien' within the next week, and have been hooked since. I am practically the one man fan club here in Richmond, Va. haha...

Thanks for listening...

LAter,

Tim

Hey Joe,

I have been practicing the hammered-on arpeggio section of 'The Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing' and almost have it.

I was wondering what types of exercises and or other shapes you would recommend that I practice for that?

Thanks

Tim

Hey Joe,

I have a suggestion or two for your site. Here goes:

How about a section for suggestions to aspiring musicians?

It would be geared more for advise and tips on dealing with the music industry more from the business/legal side of things that could come from your own experiences. I am sure that there are many serious musicians here who would appreciate and apply that info to their own situations. Just something you could update as you saw fit, based on subjects that you think might be relevant to the current day or situation. It may also include scans of past interviews on related topics that may be currently out of print, but you may still have copies of. Maybe it could include video and audio of certain interviews.

Examples of somethings that may be in here are: getting copyrights, how record deals work, protecting your work, tips for negotiating studio time and costs, and anything that deals with what a working musician may face in the industry today.

Or maybe you could have another area that is like above, but is about playing guitar and such (theory, exercises, etc)....

I have been a fan since just before/as Surfing was breaking here on the east coast. If there was an unofficial fan club at VCU here in Richmond, Va back in '87,... I was the founder and prez.... lol

Part of the reason I am such a fan is due to what I read about you and how you handled the business end of things. I thought that here is a smart musician, not just some other axe slinger. So now I also try to learn how different musicians handle this end of things too. But, I also know that there probably are some insider things that you have dealt with that, having prior knowledge of, would be beneficial to those of us looking to do something serious with music. Thus leading me to my suggestion. At, 36, I am not looking to become a rock star, but more along the lines to how to make a serious working stab in the business. Anything more is just icing on the cake.

So, wadda ya think?

Hope your webmaster isn't pissed at me for suggesting more work for him....LOL

Yes, I am original Gen X'er computer geek. LOL

Thanks,

Tim aka Guitar Samuri

22 v. 24 frets...

I had a 24 fret Ibanez American Masters neck-through guitar with 24 frets that had tons of tone. The body was american bass wood. The neck through was the key, and the Fred pickup I put in the bridge position really brought out the rest. I ended up selling it about 6 years ago.

I currently have another Ibanez 24 fet that is a bolt-on neck and cheaper than my previous Ibanez, but sounds just as good in a different way. It has a tone that seems to cover more of a range. It sounds kinda like a cross between a gibson and a strat. Even though this guitar was not as expensive as my last, it has had more quality used in making it. (everything fits and feels right) It also has low action. Still stock pickups though. It needs a fred...hehe...

Don't forget that type of woods, pickups, distortion, amps, strings...etc... will all affect the tone and sound you will eventually hear. It is all about the right combination that meets your sonic and playing needs.

Personally, I like the 24 fret necks, even thought I have some pretty big hands and fingers, cause it is symmetrical... and it just seems more appealing and even to me. It also forces me to be a little more accurate with my fingers. lol...

Hello All,

A few things have happend since my last post.

Gotta feel for the people in New Orleans, but I cannot believe that lack of survival instincts. I cannot believe that the entire area has become a biohazard and people still want to stay. It seems a little Darwin may have had a point.

Gotta remember history... the dustbowl era, ' Oregon or Bust', 'California or Bust', etc....

Here in Va, I almost considered leaving as Isabell was heading this way. It looked bad for a while.

All that aside, it does me proud to be an American, especially now with all the things people are doing to help everyone out.

I wonder if the Louisianna purchase is still under warranty from the French. Maybe we can get our money back. LOL....

I know Joe must be busy, but I hope he is able to give us a qwick word some. At last account, he is still in Mumbai waiting for his plane to be fixed. LOL....

Hey Guys/Gals...

Help me get Joe on the Tonight Show.

(instructions to follow)

You can email the Tonight Show and suggest a musical guest. I had done so just after my birthday on Valentine's Day to see if i could get anything other than an automated response. But, nothing...which i kinda expected as I understand how things work a bit. Anyway, I am also curious to see how much of a voice we can have if we work together.

So I would like to enlist your help just to see if we can do this.

Some of you may remember sometime ago that Joe actually sat in with the band on Dave Letterman. I remember watching this at a friend's house. So now lets try the other show.

Here's what to do...

Send to: tonightshow@nbc.com

with the subject line: Suggest A Musical Guest

and tell them to get Joe Satriani on there. Maybe even poke at them at bit by mentioning that Joe was on Dave Letterman and you'd hate to think that his show was better. hehe.....

If you'd like to find out for yourself, head to www.nbc.com.

Let's see what a focused effort can do. I'd like to see decent music making more rounds in the mainstream.

The reason radio plays a lot of crap and the music companies think that is what we want is because we do not speak up enough so they will actually listen to us.This is another way we can demonstrate more of what we want to hear.

Whadda yall think? Are you with me?

Thanks,

Hey Guys/Gals...

HELP ME GET JOE ON THE TONIGHT SHOW !! (cont'd)

First of all let me say thanks to the people who have responded so far. Here is a liitle more explanation about how I have been able to figure out how this works, and to answer a question or two I have seen so far.

Yes I am aware that Joe was on Letterman (even saw the first one way back when), now I want to see if we can get him on the other show. Even saw the Mtv Unplugged with Joe and SRV that someone referred to earlier. SRV is another of my faves. Actually taped it and have The Satch Tapes too.

Actually, if this works, we will probably get him invited, then the rest will be up to Joe and management.

If you follow my instructions and send the email, you will get an automated response that your email has been received...blah, blah, blah....

From this point I would assume that they will get forwarded to the staff of the music talent coordinator for the show, or something like that.

I am hoping that with enough of these emails, they will extend an 'invitation' to come on the show and perform.

So...

HELP ME GET JOE ON THE TONIGHT SHOW !!

That is,... if you're enough of a fan to do it.....LOL

STAGE ONE OF GETTING JOE ON TONIGHT SHOW....

COMPLETED!!!!

Here is the email answer I got from a HUMAN response.... not much, but still a HUMAN response.....

--------------------------------------------

Thanks for your suggestion, Tim!

Sincerely,

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno Viewer Relations

Sent: Thursday, March 23, 2006 10:22 PM To: The Tonight Show with Jay Leno Subject: Suggest A Musical Guest

Hey Jay,

You should consider having Joe Satriani on your show. He is a monster guitar player and has been around for a while. His latest CD was released and it is awesome.

He is the Susan Lucci of the grammys having been nominated for best instrumental album 12 or 13 times, but yet to win one. I think Kevin might be shaking in his boots next to Satch.

Check him out at www.satriani.com.

Thanks,

Tim

----------------------------------------------

So atleast someone has noticed this request. I actually sent a couple of different emails, since I have a couple of different email addys...text was just a little different in each too......hehe....gonna give it my all.

To Hrh Fish....yes I understanthe industry is run on money. People seems to forget that they can use that to their advantage too.

1.) You can deny the industry money....basically saying...'We're not gonna buy your stuff until to you produce what we want.'...imagine how fast radio formats would change if enough people took a stand, held their ground, and went to the advertisers that run ads on radio stations and said, 'We're not gonna buy your stuff because the radio is not playing what we like.'.....basically, following the trail of money and holding the top guy repsonsible....they go to the radio station and say,....'If our customers stop buying our stuff because you are not playing what they want, we stop spending our money on your ad time'......but most people are not willing to take a stand or hold their ground on an issue....so they just bend over and take it in the end and accept what SOMEONE ELSE thinks they want to hear....

2.) Increase/Focus your spending into a particular area of an industry.....basically denying other areas of the same industry money.....like why people watch more cable news than regular network stuff.....they get more with the cable news so that is where they focus their attention and money.....

The thing is that most people don't use their money to get what they want. They are afraid of a little inconvience. So they end up accepting what is offered to them.

Ultimately, I am trying to do something for Joe for all the years of great music he has produced for us. We should take a little bit of a stand on his behalf.

If he gets invited, he can decide what he wants to do from there. But, we should TRY to get him invited.

Who is so lame that they can not send a quick email?

Even if nothing becomes of it, atleast you took a stand and tried.

Thanks,

Guitar Samuri

P.S.- HrH Fish, a slight correction to something you said earlier in the week. I believe Frank Gambale is an aussie, not an Italian.....otherwise his nick, 'The Thunder from Down Under' has a whole new meaning....LOL

P.P.S. - Hey Webmaster, first I want to say 'Thank You' for all you do for the site. I also like the simple design.....easy to maintain and responsive....having been around since the days of MMUDs and BBSs..... Is there anyway to put a link somewhere on the site that refers the my emails for those that may find an extra watt of energy to want to help me on my email campaign? Thanks again.....

Gotta Have Joe....

Here's what to do... Thanks for helping to support me in this. I believe this is what separates the REAL SATCH fans from the ones who just say they are.

Send to: tonightshow@nbc.com

with the subject line: Suggest A Musical Guest

Then just tell them, in your own words, that they should get Joe Satriani on there and why.

Thanks,

Your friendly neighborhood,

Guitar Samuri

PS - I hope that all who support me in this effort will continue to spread the word and continue to PAY THIS FORWARD.

I can't believe that people won't take 3 minutes to send a f-ing email. People who are not willing to do that should burn all their Joe albums and stuff, cause they do not deserve his music.

I started this cause I think that this is about Joe and his music, and the appreciation for all the years he has inspired and entertained us, musicians and non-musicians alike.

We can do more to support him. Lets see if we can get Jay Leno and his staff to take notice. They have noticed many other artists, a lot of whom are crappy and have no talent, so lets point out to them someone who has talent.

Thanks again to all the REAL Satch fans!!

Hello...

5150_Alien and CroNumber9: Thanks for your support of my idea. I really appreciate it.

See even CroNumber9 helped, and he won't even get to see it if Joe gets on. Now that is a true fan. Thanks, dude!

Iceman: That is not exactly right. You are gonna get an automated response saying that they have received it and they do not have the time to respond to them all.

I have received that,....and I have also received a human response. But, as I suspect with anything like this, it is gonna take a mass of email request to make an impact. Basically put, the more people who make the request, the better.

Also do not forget, I am sure that his STAFF will get these first. Then they will check it out based on the curiousity aroused by the number of requests they receive.

So for anyone else who wants to give their all for Joe:

email: tonightshow@nbc.com

subject: Suggest A Musical Guest

Then just tell them in your own words that they should get Joe Satriani on there and why.....maybe mention this website for them to check out.

Thanks again,

Well All.... I am back....again.....

But like the poltergeist, I never really leave.... just remain unseen...LOL

Man... I hate the way the music industry thinks..... that is why nothing cool, like private special shows from someone like Joe only happen here once in a blue moon....BTW, missed meeting Joe twice the couple ot times I saw him play around Richmond. They say third times a charm, right....

Would have loved to be able to go to the Hyde Street Studio thing...Would even be willing to buy a ticket.... I did annoy a whole slew of friends with 'You gotta hear this Joe Satriani guy' when I started going to VCU in the fall of '87.... All because I happen to catch the video for 'Satch Boogie' on MTV either right before or right after class while I was eating lunch....(MTV, ya know, when they actually played music videos the majority of the time they were on the air....lol)

I would like to pose a few thoughts to the Satrianiatics (just give me credit for this term...hehe)out there...., powers that be here, and maybe even Satch himself....

I while back, I tried to get an email campaign to get Satch on The Tonight Show. He has been all over Dave Letterman, but not on the corporate toadie show with Leno....my thought at the time were trying a kinda 'guerilla marketing' approach to try and get more notice of Satch and his music, and other like him....

I still think that is certain ways, this is the right approach.... but maybe the execution needs to be different....I have been on the net since I was teen back in the 80s, and would like to see how I could help bring notice to sometime positive and and interest of music....GUITAR....RAWK...YEAH!!! LOL....

I was thinking that maybe the powers that be here could come up with (if they haven't already) some sort of banners we could use, templates for print yourself bumpers stickers and such, and maybe info of who we (as a collective fan base) could contact to influence radio stations, tv shows and the like.... G3 is a great idea mainly for the artist side, but ultimately, we as fans and aficionados have to make our voices heard to have any impact... else the music companies will always control what THEY think we want to hear. I am stick of it.... regular radio SUX here in richmond for the most part....especially since most station are now owned by one company who try to make 2 similar stations in the same market sound different....helps if they don't play the same song at the same time...lol....

Anyway, my basic question to everyone is..... what ways can we come up with to try and bring more awareness of Joe ( and other artists) to the general public?

I like starting with Joe, not only cause he is my fav guitarist, but also because he is the most 'marketable'.... considering the success he has already acquired....

Is there anyone else out there who would like to help do more for Joe, because of all he has done and brought for us, or am I the only one?

Together I think we can change to industry to bring more of the ART back into the ARTISTRY of being a musician....

Thanx for reading and considering...

Satriella.... Thanx for noticing.... Had been a little busy... new job/career and all hopefully to allow for guitar/music time....

I think a fair number of people have heard of Joe by name, but still don't really know the music, or the music of other such players.....

I have run into a few people that know his name and that is it...

As a fan and somewhat musical guitar player, I would like to see what I could do to get more notice, by both the public and the industry, of instrumental music.... and decent music in general.

I have also made some new friends at a new little guitar shop in my town.... we've been having jams every saturday night now for a little bit...

I FINALLY MET JOE AFTER 21 YEARS!

18, if you want to count from my first missed opportunity to meet him.

Thanks Joe! I have been around long enough to know that staying after to sign stuff takes a lot of time that you could use for sleep for your next event, or just have time for other stuff in general. So THANKS MUCH!!!!

On the off chance that this will jar a few synapses.... I met you in DC at the Guitar Center April 4th....

You signed the discs in my Legacy SWTA .... I asked about if ibanez would make any other productions of the Chrome Boy for us masses... and about SRV when you were on MTV UNPLUGGED with him shortly before his untimely passing.

I just want to say a big thank you for taking time to do what you do.

I have also lost a bit of sleep trying to play some of the licks you create....LOL

I had to get that out of the way first....

Hey All,

It has been a while since I check in last.... work is getting in the way of my guitar playing and a lot of things as of recent....come on lottery...LOL...

But I wasn't gonna let a 2 1/2 hour drive from Richmond to DC and crappy rush hour traffic stop me from seeing Joe. I hoped I could've gotten there sooner....guess I'll be taking a day off of work next time....missed some of the beginning of it....and even though I am almost 6ft tall, I couldn't see much through the standing crowd that was there... there is always some 6'3" guys whos head is just in the way of you....lol.... but music is about the ears anyway.... They need to boost your mic a bit for when you are talking though.....

That is ok... got the new CD with the guitar center DVD exclusive....and watch you play 'Crushing Day' for the fast ripping solo....something I have always wanted to see you play....YEAH....

Can you tell I am elated....HAHAHA.....<---- 'Headless Horseman laugh....LOL

Just had to chime in....

Thanks,

Guitar Samuri

PS - I am thinking about becoming a guitar ninja.... any thoughts?...lol

Greetings all!

This RL stuff is getting in the way of my being able to consistently check in and post here in Satchland.

Wanted to see if any other Richmonders will be at the Oct 24th show here... cause...

I just got my CLUB JOE ticket from ups.... YEAH!

But I have a few minor points for you Joe...

1) I know booking places for gigs can be a pain for the managers, but I would be willing to pay a little extra to go to a venue that I where a bullet-proof vest isn't needed...lol.

2) The local ads for the National here said that is was your first time in Richmond.... NOT TRUE... I saw you here back in 1990 at the Mosque... now called the Landmark Theatre. Missed meeting you by 15mins back then cause I was on the wrong side of the building afterwards. I got to meet the opening act... Stevie Salas though.

Look forward to being able to meet you again... I met you for the first time back on April 4 at the GC clinic... 30secs after 21 years just doesn't cut it.... LOL...

Thanks for all you do for us fans... I know it takes a lot of time that you could use for other things on the road... like SLEEPING....lol..

Maybe I could play the first part on Stu's 'Country Music' for you on guitar... still working on how to make the rest playable for my guitar skills...lol... still working on my 2 handed skills.... I can play 'Terminal Beach' all the way through.... Stanley Jordan is a fave of mine too...

A question for that show... If I wanted to bring my guitar for you to sign, how could I do that at this type of event? I think this would be a little different then at the GC clinics...

I work out some sort of dress code so you will know who I am....

I can see it now.... I will walk up to shake your hand.... and hear.... "Security!".... lol...

It will be good to be able to talk to you again...

Looking forward to meeting you again...

Think I might change my name to Guitar_Pwnerer....lol.

Hello all...

Blue_Moon: hehe.... maybe I could get some speedos that are red and have a silver surfer over my.....lol... I am workiong out again so it wouldn't be too out of the normal... but how would he see them through my pants.... OH... you meant just wear the speedos.... give me a few more weeks of working out then I will consider it... LOL...

Setlist: thanks for the advice.... always though it would be nice to have Joe's sig on my Ibanez...

I am psyched to see Joe play live again... everytime it makes me more inspired to want to play guitar even more than when I first saw him live.... Joe is one of the reasons I REALLY wanted to PLAY in the first place...

Just for fun... you guys should check out his picture on Greg Kihn's 'Love and Rock and Roll' album....

*** Hey Joe, does that bring back any memories? hehe... I can even hear some of your early style on that album...and the Hendrix influence.....

Talk to you all....

Hello all...

Less than a week now and I will have my Club Joe experience.... yeah!!!! After 21 years as a fan...... met him back in april in rockville md but that was just too short...lol.

It is so cool that every once in a while you can meet the people who have been your inspiration.

What the ell?.... I come here to get away from the politics... who wants to sully this place with it...

LOOK.... both choices are BAD...

Barak happens to be a little worse.... let's tax businesses so they will have to leave the US to exist, and take their jobs with them. You can have success, just as long as it is not worth more than $250,000 a year. Byebye lotto winnings....lol. We want the gov't to supply you with everything... we will redistribute wealth to who we think should have it, while taking it from whomever we want. This would include your friends, your family, and you.

McCain - McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, Fairness Doctrine... need I really say more....

BTW... according to, I believe it is HR 1955 and SR 1959 (if not, just reverse the numbers), any website that posts speech including the social change... could be consider a terrorist website and it speech terrorism. Wonder who supported this one....

Why are the people who helped cause this economic crisis not in jail, let alone, helping to design and vote on the bail out? Franklin Raines, Chriss Dodd, and others....

As far as I am concerned, any elected offical who does not support and promote the interests (economic, governmental, social, etc..) of the American citizens they were elected TO SERVE, is a traitor and should be prosecuted accordingly.

Now can we just let the politics go and enjoy the ride down, cause they aren't enough good, non-corrupted individuals in gov't who are willing to take a stand to make a difference anymore. Most of the populus have become willing lemmings to walk off the cliff just because someone else can talk them into it anyway.

Hence my favorite made up saying is.... Darwin's theory doesn't work fast enough for me.....lol.

Hello all...

Thanks Larenzo001... I am from Richmond, Va.

The state where 'the eyebrow' Tim Kaine is from.... and Mark Warner too...

But I won't go into that unless really necessary....lol.

Oh BTW... if you guys haven't already found it... look for a kid Ramzi on youtube playing 'Surfing with the Alien'. He is only 12 and he rocks... yes he is playing it cause I helped teach him how to play parts of it...he take lessons at a guitar store up the street from me. I have become good friends with the owners and we have jams on saturday night sometimes.

Wholesale Guitars - wholesaleguitars.org and myspace.com/wholesguitars

And... some other friends of ours recently released their CD... This is a christian rock band, but they shred.... I have jammed with their guitar player. Check out King's Crown at myspace.com/kingscrownband

Tell me what you think....
