OCPS470 - My ex drummer said that if he had it all to do again he would get an electric set. He really liked the sounds, the feel, and the extra capabilities with the triggers and such. However, if this is not an option ($$) then the drummer is just going to have to learn to have some touch. I play in unamplified combos at school and the drummers there can play with the dynamics of a song to create moods. I think that over all most "rock" drummers don't learn control and dynamics. Don't know if that helps.

Mike and Steve - The upside toall this is that I can now look for a higher quality of musician. These guys were ok but I was (not to be arrogant) a notch above from technique to basic musical knowlege. If I asked for Bb7#13 chord all I would get back would be the look of four deer in headlights. So we'll see how it goes.

Delfino - I almost forgot to answer you. I had a singer that used to put all kinds of stomp boxes in his mic line. He always had some weird effect that he wanted to use in songs. So, yea go with it you might find something that you like.

Delfino - Couple of nice Bettys you were hangin with!!

Cheese - Yes I have them in my hot little hand. See you manana!!

S470 - I have only played the JS100 once and found it OK. I do have an S470. I like it a lot. I am going to get new pick ups for it today though (Air Norton and a Tone Zone). I like to adjust the poles to even out the voulme and you cant do that with the stock pick ups. Plus they are not as hot. The trem system works pretty good. It is a lot stiffer then my RG trem. Other than that it was a good buy for 500 clams. And of course it's pretty.

962 - Yea there is a 100ma difference between the two. I'm putting them in my S470. They came as a pair from a guy that I know. My thought was "You can never have TOO much gear." If the voume difference is too much I can change and use this one somewhere else. Thanks for the tip though. I'll file that away. I was going to use the Tone Zone in the bridge and the Air in the neck. We'll see how it goes.

Delfino - I have never seen Coronation Street. I don't know if it is ever available over here. You are a teenager though!! Every pic you have posted of a Delfino standard Hottie have been tipped forward with big breasts!! I myself am a leg and ass man. As Sir Mix-a-lot would say " I like 'em real thick and juicy."

bluebuffalo - Bummer you can't make it!!! Maybe another show.

Powerslave214 A friend of mine was selling them on craig's list so I bought them. We'll see how it goes.

Artanis I - I think we a we going to have to agree to disagree on this. My feeling is that even in hard rock there needs to be some form of dynamics. My former drummer had one volume and that was it. It just seems that a lot of rock drummers don't see the need for dynamics. But I feel it is just as important as coming in on time after a fill.

Clarky Glad to hear it all went well. Nothing like public adulation to produce wood!!

Brother al - Here is DiMarzios site. I have a red pick up in my RG. Right now it is at the luthiers but I will have it back next Saturday. I will post a pic of when I get it back.

Brother Al - I got my pick up from the local music store. Check the link I gave you. Some of Dimarzio's pickups come in different colors. There is a color pallette button in the left bottom of the window after you choose a pickup from the main list. I put a ProTrac in the neck position of my RG. I like it a lot. Good luck.

Mike, Zen - X is awesome. I like both the old heavier stuff as well as the new blue stuff. Always been a fav. Been waiting for a North American tour. He had a real bad case of tendonitis last year and had to cancel a lot of dates.

As for Alvin Lee he is a monster. He has the Travis picking down!!! I Never have gotten the hang of that. I did see him once in a bluegrass show. It was Alvin, Ricky Scaggs, Roy Clark, and Vince Gill. Needless to say there were a lot of notes flying off the stage.

Need to do some homework but I will say again Vai was AWESOME!!

Ok per the request of Tracie (Cheese101) I have put together a collection of thoughts from the Vai show on Sunday.

For starters lets talk about the venue. Here are the venue capacities and dimensions
CAPACITY: Balcony & Main Floor - 1,400
STAGE DIMENSIONS: 55' wide x 30' deep x 4' tall
For more info on the venue here is a page for the Roseland Theater

Not a bad size place to see a show. Eric Sardinis was kick ass. I hope that his stage presence comes through on CD. The guy was all over the place and I have never heard someone play slide like that!! He was playing through a Rivera stack. The tone was great. I was totally blown away. The only bummer of his set was an idiot in the balcony that couldn’t understand when to shut his trap. ES turned his volume all the off and was playing acoustically. The guy in the balcony couldn’t understand that this was intentional and was yelling at the sound guy. The rest of us were trying to listen but the moron had drunk too many cups or was just too dense to figure out what was going on. After the drummer took a solo the band came back out and at one point ES told the people at the front of the stage to move apart. He then jumped off the stage (close to you Tracie?) and played his way to rear of the venue, up the stairs to the balcony, down the front of the balcony, back to the stage wing area, and then back to the stage. You have to love wireless!! He said good-bye and we waited for Steve and the guys.

Vai’s show was in three parts: loud, soft, loud. I don’t remember the set list but here is what I do remember. He put on a great show. The band did a great job also. Each member got a feature section and all seemed to be having a good time. I wish that I had brought a piece of paper with me. However thanks to power of the internet I believe I have found a set list that looks a lot like what I saw.

I know that is cheating, but hell. I’m not the damn reporter Austin is!!

So, The sound was OK. I had a bit of a problem hearing Steve’s guitar in the first few songs. It eventually got figured out. There was lots of interplay between Steve and Tony and they did more of the playing each other’s guitars ala Live at the Astoria. I have heard rumors that this will be EVO’s last tour so I’m glad I got to hear her being played live. I had not seen Steve since the Whitesnake tour way back in the day. I think his playing has reached a point of ease. He really seemed one with the instruments. The acoustic set was cool. I only wished that they had played more of the songs. They tended to play just pieces. So, you would just be getting into the song and it would be over. Especially on my favorite song Call it Sleep. They played up to the solo and stopped. It left me a little dry. But through the show I would periodically look at my buddy and just shake my head. The guy has such a command over his hands. It made me want to lock myself in a room and just practice until I passed out and then repeat.

Over all I enjoyed myself completely and would do it all again.

I thought it had a good beat, I could dance to it, I give it a 98, Dick!!!

A shout out to the gang in line Tracie, Chris, Brian Currier and his wife, Pete Brost (the guy next to me in the gallery). Hope to see yu’ll at the next show.

Mikesb - Does it ever scare how parallel our lives are?!! (see below for more)

Castle, Jesel - Accounting in the AP/AR sense is very boring. The stuff that Michelle does is more theoretical than mathmatical. What scares me is how much of it I have come to know over the years. Yesterday on the way home we had a talk about capitalization of assets and the allocation of depreciation over different time spans and how that all effect the beginning and ending balances of your GL... I know TOO much about accounting. Michelle diD her 3 years painfully especially the 6 mos she spent in tax. : ) Now she doesn't even do our taxes. She hates it that much.

962 - Steve sang the first verse than Dave played the second on the Sitar. That was as far as they went.

BC43 - Back at ya. Let me know if we can help out with the move west. See you soon.

Catching up on 6 pages of posts

Castle 49 - As an engineering student even I know that agent has a bad case of "CranialRectalitis." A 39 year depreciation cycle is is great if you're dealing witha machine. But paint!! Give me a beak. Maybe that is why the agent is not working in the public sector!! As for Sox My has had a few talks with their CEO giving the choice of complience or jail. It has been interesting seeing him always bowing his head and picking complience.

Mikesb - Sox is a friggin nightmare. Since my wife works for a publicly held co. she is having to deal with all that. She just passed 404 testing and are now getting ready for their 10Q and audit. It is really a nightmare that they have to go through all this because a few pompus asses screwed up. Oh well, that is how our society works. We must protect ourself from us. Ity's like "I Robot."

Cuth - Just got to your sanity post. Sorry but I put too much time into this post and I'm not erasing it. I don't type that fast. I loved the crtoon. That will teach those people to go back and get a real degree. Libral Arts, Ha!!

Accounting for G3

Ovation That guy was jammin! Do you have his number? I could use a good drummer!!!

Michelle - Quit slacken and catch up!! Great news on the band. I too wish I had that kind of support as a kid. And I also have the kids yelling at me to turn the stereo down.

Had my hearing checked yesterday. No damage at all and I hear just great. Who da thunk? After 25 years of playing amplified music you think there would be some damage. Time to drop off the kids. Later peeps.

All right everyone "Heads Up!!" Opps, wrong board. Anyway, I'll be gone at a an over night camp out with my daughters girl scout troop so go easy on the posting.

Delfino - When it comes to friends it is definately QUALITY over QUANITY. Having one or two friends that you can depend on is way better than a bunch of flakes.

Steve T - We all expect a full report on your lesson today. Don't disappoint.

Zenfish - Hey Bro!! I know exactly how you feel. When things blow up it sucks. Hang and move on though. Find a better bass player and make some cool shit. Take care cheesy one.

Cheese, Ken - Nice to see your names pop up. Tracie nice pic of you and Chris in the webcast foto section. First in line as always

Powerslave - I would recommend the Korg Pandora. I have one and love it. You can take it with you anywhere and play through and amp, headphones or computer speakers... They are about 200 bucks and worth every penny. There is a record feature so that you can practice you I-VI-ii-V licks over chords that you have layed down. There is also a metronome and about 20 different preprogrammed drum patterns. Check it out!!

Count Skippy - There are many tabs available for that song. But in a nutshell Joe is muting the strings with his right hand. Then hammering on the apeggios with his left. It is a cool technique that both him and Vai use . Hope that helps.

Mikesb - Didn't care for a lot of the guitars that guy had but I DID like the Caddi he used in the backround of a couple of those pics. It must be the Latino in me or sumpin. I have a yearning for a '57 Caddi with hydralics, painted lime green and orange, with velour seats, fringe, fuzzy dice and a big mural of the Virgin Mary on the trunk. Oh yea, don't forget the killer stereo and the chain link steering wheel. Ooooooooooooooo, I can't wait to graduate!!!
