Hi joe satriani again, by the way you are a big influence of mine and I have a funny story. I saw you play years ago in Indianapolis, In.you threw me a pick but I threw it out the car window on the way home haha because I was young and stupid ahah...I was just in awe that someone could play that well and it was a blow to my ego haha...Well, still I kept playing and realized that playing is not about competition but rather about developing your own style and I guess you helped to teach me that..so thanks so much...by the way, I play guitar and guitar loops (see my website or http://www.dtguitar.com/pharo.mp3) and if ever a chance comes around I would love to open a G3 show or open for you!!! SERIOUSLY!!!! Thanks for being such an incredible playe and big inspritation Sincerely, Denis Denis Taaffe http://www.dtguitar.com

hi,

about Robert Fripp, I am not tyring to attack him in anyway but I read some reviews about european shows and that some of the resoonses have not all been favorable.Does that upset you when audiences react that way?! I just think it is more his attitude as perceived by his audience rather than his music from the reviews anyway. The booing is outrageous, he is there to perform for them!!! and they should respect him!!! and he is a legend too Well just my thoughts...what's your take on it Joe?

Hi Joe,

Also, while I love hearing the new CD material,I think it sucks that I got to hear all of it without buying it!!! signs of the times I guess, but I will make it point to go out and buy it because the artist should be paid man and I do appreciate thepreview.I hope everyone who hears it ,does the same!!! Hey if ever a spot to open for you or at a g3 let me know!!!!!! cool, Denis Taaffe http://www.dtguitar.com

I am dissapointed in the state of guitar today!! I mean it is unreal that no new guitarist has really done much really or has been allowed too considering the state of the music industry which is beyond pathetic and is heading towards a total shutdown and coporate domination of force feeding artists who appeal to demogrpahics only even though their music appeals to no one!!! Its so sad really, and tons of guitarists sound so much alike it is unreal!!!! Take a listen to guitar9.com and most of the guitarists there do sound alike!! this is not a slam on joe at all whom I do consider original in some aspects and in fact influenced a ton of guitarists perhaps that is why they sound similar to him in their approach. I have CD's at guitar9.com too and I do try to have my own approach to guitar and music for what it is worth, but that is not the point. The guitar mags are the biggest dissapointment catering to record labels who force feed features on worthless guitarists because they are in a band even if they can't play worth a crap. I dont even read them anymore, perhaps I am just getting old, but the music industry and labels and clearchannell have made it near impossible to expose anything original guitar wise, in fact name ten new guitarists who have actually gotten a decent amount of exposure in the last ten years? who arent related to members of older bands and have done something different and original?!! how many on major labels, its disgusting and I am truly to the point of not pursuing a music career at all because of this (entering a decaying music industry that is about corruptiuon, rotten contracts [I just got one I refused to sign!!! what slimey piece of work that was haah],money and not music at all and in fact doesnt know how to deal with new technologies and in fact limits emerging artist,no wonder they end up on guitar9. anyway I have been doing it on my own anyway. But with crap label deals that abuse the artists in their arrogant ways...But I went through I dont know thirty guitarists on guitar9 and they all sounded alike truly I was stunned.I would much rather seek out orginal guitar music if I could find some, especially instrumental, but there is not much that sounds different or has an orginal approach. In fact I talked to a radio host who does a guitar show and gets hundreds of submission and he told me almost all his entries he gets are shred, sound alikes hahah...I believe him....and no one wants to give anyone a try a chance or break really. I dealt with a manager who promised me an opening gig for a prominent instrumental guitarist I truly do admire and for three years of negotiations when it went though the record label sponsoring the show said No Way because I wasnt on a label haha. Well, anyway enough ranting, but I am glad about steve vais favored nation label that is at least trying to do something about it but can they wonder at the labels why their sales are going down the toilet? hmm lets see last month there were 5 major record labels, today 4 hahah, what do they expect when they put out formula bands and crap.....

rant part two....sad day for guitar really!! I hope to be proved wrong in this post and that someone points me to some new guitarists who deserve some exposure and who are doing things differently in technique, approach, musically and in orginallity. I do consider joe an innovator of sorts and eric johnson in his approach and tone certainly....but they have dominated the guitar market along with vai to the point that it truly dimminishes the exposure of others, though not by their own fault or attempt to do so, but because of the labels and their closed markets!!! and really are there some new approaches, styles and orginallity in guitar? Who is doing it? I certainly try, are there others? seriously and will the world really ever hear of them? not if the labels or others give them a chance and ban them to obscurity on guitar9 and other INDY web sites thats for sure......I have put out 4 cd's and am shopping a 5th cd but am so disgusted by the labels who wont even take a listen much less a chance unless it is through a slimy lawyer (ent attorney who wants to charge $10k to take it to his buddy at the record label).Well the state of guitar is a perfect example of how the music industry is dysfunctional

Joe should be at the forefront of promoting instrumental guitar and promoing new guitarists too!! I mean he should have guitarists opening for him who dont get normal exposure and things like that. I am to saying he doesnt do that, but he really should to take the instrument further!! Then again he is an artist concentrating on his music and that should be the priority. dont know I guess I would do that if I was in joes shoes anyway

go ahead you can slam me for my posts on the state of guitar and the music biz but it is my opinion from my perosnal experience and observations is all and I would love to be proved wrong!!! 8-)

and one more gripe, you cant imagine the arrogance of many record labels and people in the music industry, if you submit a resume for a job at a company you will usually get an acknowledgement that they received your resume and are reviewing it or a rejection letter. If you send a demo to most record labels, you get NO response one way or another!! How very unprofessional, that has been my experience though I do admit that I have also gotten very professional responses from a few labels anyway. The music industry tries to put itself above professional business ethics in such an arrogant way it is unreal!! treating musicians like complete idiots in the contracts they draw up and the lack of professional courtesy and respect for the artist in general ,especially when dealing with business matters.
