Hey all, new to the board. Don't get a lot of time to post in this kind of place, which is why I haven't joined up sooner. Always thought Mr. Satch was an awesome guitarist, but after seeing the "Evening With.." in October here in Raliegh, NC, I was so blown away! Joes melodies combined with the technique and raw emotion just leaves me at a near loss for words. Saw you on the G3 tour in Winston Salem, NC too...but I didn't get to see the whole set because I was in pain after standing up scrunched up next to all of those peaple; trying to peer over heads for 3 hrs. Being short sucks lol! When are you guys gonna play an auditorium here in NC? hahaha Also...it has to be said, that you have an amazing band! I know the focus is mainly on you, but I can tell that you're a humble guy. Most "stars" think of themselves as such, unfortunately. I think that Jeff is an AMAZING drummer. The whole band is just great! Anyway, take it easy...been playing for 17 years..maybe I'll be half as good as you are in another 17 hahaha. Wish me luck!

962--just read that you want feedback on the tone-zone. I have an F-Spaced one in me Ibanez S470DXQM...love it! It's more of a shredders pickup, though. The mids are really prominent. Also, they don't sound real good clean. They would probably sound good clean if you tapped them though.

Civgeek, I LOVE my S470DXQM! That trem makes the Floyd feel like a badly made toy. It's really thin, but has some good weight to it..pretty good resonance considering. The ZR part of the trem works pretty well in terms of allowing you to do double stops and unison bends without detuning the other strings, but it still happens if you bend it hard. The neck is pretty wide too..which is a little wierd for someone with small hands like me, but it has its advantages too. The stock pickups stink, though..replace them IMMEDIATELY! I only replaced the bridge..you can get some cool out-of-phase stuff with the neck and middle pickups on the clean side, though.

962 --the Tone Zone's harmonics, in my opinion are the real selling point of the pickup. They're really hot, and mid-heavy RIGHT where the harmonics seem to be hiding. I'm also able to get some killer feedback with them on my Carvin Legacy..if you're in a small room and don't know how to tame feedback beware! I've played entire songs with a jungle beat using nothing but feedback, it seems to create musical feedback all on it's own.

Civgeek-- no mo snow hahaha! We actually didn't get a whole lot. only missed half a day of work. In this area, you never know what it's gonna be like. Seriously, though, my last guitar is a strat-copy and those necks are really narrow compared to my Ibanez. The S470's a pretty nice feeling neck, all around though..really like it. Was surprised at the detail of the inlays too. Actually got mine "scratch and dent" from AMS for around $489 new..and I couldn't even find scratches on the front. Make sure that the guitar you're eyeing has the assembly in the tremolo cavity. You may like it without it, but without it you won't get the return to pitch that it was designed for. Good luck!

civgeek---try to see if you can look inside the cavity behind the plate on the back...there should be four springs back there..if there are only two, then the assembly is missing. Some people prefer it without the assembly, but it's better to get it. You can always take it off if you don't like it. I prefer it, because it acts as a counter-tension which helps keep the strings from detuning when you bend.

Hey all, how's it going tonight? I've just recently started trying to learn some of Joe's unsual licks (after 17 years, I've finally been able to get equipment that makes me feel that I can explore new territory). Anyway, I used to be able to play until my strings started to sound dead. About 2 months ago I taught myself Joe's "open string harmonics/pulling out on the tremolo" thing. I'm nowhere near as good as it as I'd like to be....but anyway....I broke my second string in 2 months. Guess I might be doing something right! hahahaha Now I just need to practice for another 10 years, and maybe I'll be good enough for the big time lol. I don't use a Whammy pedal, so it'll never sound as good as Satch, even if I were half as good at it as he is. Still working on the hammer-on arpeggio from "Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing". It's coming along, but I was wondering if there are any types of effects to help sqeeze those notes out without a bunch of noise and feedback. I guess I'm wierd, because I don't really try to learn his songs front to back..just try to learn things that I'm later able to attempt to incorperate into my own playing. I can pretty much play Crystal Planet, but that's about it. Again, I go back to the show in oct. in Raliegh, NC . Watching him that night probably taught me more than the 2 years of lessons that I took! I can't help but bow down to the man.

So glad to hear that Satch has a new album coming out. From the clips it sounds like it's gonna be a good one! Saw Joe Nov. 2004 at the Linclon Theatre and was BLOWN AWAY. I hope he's coming to the area soon, can't wait to see him again. Oh, and the cd is being released on my birthday...does that mean that I get a free guitar lesson from the master? hahaha
