For anyone who doesn't think Paul Gilbert should be the guitar picking champion, download a song called I Understand Completely by the man himself.

PhryDom - What WAS the alt. ending? Was the head still in the box? Did he (Brad's character, forgot the name) not take the shot? DeathCube - Yeah, I know man, I should say champ, but still, Ethn was talking about reading somewhere that Paul was rated champ even though there are other great pickers. I just think his performance in I Understand Completely was unbelievable. It's like 9 notes per beat or something. A lot and pick so bloody cleanly on a steel string acoustic.

I find the Gilbert's best material are the songs where he doesn't shred at all. Flamengo is bloody brilliant. Beautiful Girls are Insane, Gilberto Concerto, I'd say 'The Jig' but that's a JS Bach song, Alligator Farm (there's some fast playing in the solo but it's so nicely put together). There's more... http://www.tomleemusic.com/AV/event/p_gilbert/video.htm

Watch Paul's beautiful rendition of Fly me to the Moon. I've posted this link many times. I think this is an awesome performance ... except when the locals jam with Paul. There's only one gyu that played well, the others just basically tried to get as many notes in as possible and it sounded so amateur when Paul took his turn on lead when jamming with them.

Austin - Haha, the thing about that cd was that Paul was getting bored of instrumental music cause it was all starting to sound the same so he wrote I Understand Completely to make a joke about instrumental music and how corny it can be I guess. As put by Paul himself "No one got the joke."

Matt - Aim, it asks for first and last name aswell.

Cube - Better but still in use too much to fully recover.

Ethn - Paul sweeps too. Listen to I Understand Completely and when you get your head glued back on after it pops off after listening to it, let me know what you think.

Master Yoda - Oh yeah the licks. I'm busy as hell lately with auditions/rehearsals and practices but sometime i'll get back to it.

Is Thinking of You not the most beautiful array and pattern of sounds that has ever entered any of your ears?

Austin - What is then?

Cube - He sounds pretty lifeless to me, the serpent dude. I don't get a lot from the music that I do from other instrumentalists.

PhryDom - Yeah yeah let me know.

Cube - Oh, it's just that when guys have sights like that, they're usually guys who are supreme in one way. I only listened to lsd. The music didn't suck or anything, but it just sounded like an instrumental that anyone who is a Vai fan and guitar player would write.

To anyone interested in my performance today (JS Clone 2's performance aswell)

Well what can I say. I actually played well and it was the first live performance i've played that I actually walked away satisfied with EXCEPT THAT THE MORONS that were running the show had no co-ordination with eachother and they ended cutting me off half way through solo of THE MYSTICAL POTATO HEAD GROOVE THING. I played an intro before Potato Head and I liked it.

JS Clone 2 played DDD. He played really well. My high E string was sharp which pissed me off. I handed my guitar to my ex-drummer. Low and behold it came back out of tune.

Drummers, they just look at a guitar and it detunes, HA! If interested in seeing the video let me know.

Thanks to all who wiched me luck and expressed interest, Matt, Cube, JR, Sharif... Hope I didn't miss anyone.

And of course, Invigor, jeez I did forget someone.

I'll have the video up this weekend if not tonight. Skull - 4 --- Death 4

I love them both. This is the first vote I could actually vote on for a long time though. All the others were too close except for USWG and Thinking of You. Thinking of You it's probably the greatest thing to ever enter my ears.

Austin / Ya Yo - It's been a while since i've heard I am Become Death but I do not remember any rock-a-bye-baby

McDave - I was in a metal band but we had complications with the singer/guitarist and on top of that, the drummers parents were sick of us practicing there. The last we played was a live show July 27. I have the video... I should get that on PC aswell. I do have other video of my band playing at my (and the drummer's) school.

Ovation1 - That's a great name! I needed someone to help me with the title. Unfortunately, since I never walk in parks on sundays, I may not choose it. As good as the name might be, i'm just very picky about titles. I gotta figure out what made me think so straight to get the song out.

Ianjf - Thanks for checking my stuff out. I could help yo if you need it, although, I still have a lot of practice to do myself. For that pickshred video, Every note I play (until the blues licks at the end) is completely in G major (E minor). I basically run up the neck in patterns of sixes then go to the next note until I hit F# on the 14th fret and I keep repeating 6 notes starting from F# and E. Then I do 2 small runs, then I just go back to the repetition and run up E minor in 2 octaves. The video was basically to demonstrate that I could pick if I ever lost it. I actually think I had bad technique in that video. The diminished tapping video was a lick I saw from a video of good friend of mine leant me. It's basically playing a diminished scale on each string but you skip a string every time and then go down one. The FTLOG solo, well, the rehearsals sounded a whole lot better than the actual live performance. I just made a disgrace of the song.

You'll get all your fingers working really with one simple practice schedule. Just start playing scale patterns. Start in one octave and just play the scale up and down. Try picking every note for hammer on-pull off. You have to train your fingers and your brain to co-ordinate this.

Ethn - Vai has Lo Pros and Edges on different guitars. He used 3 guitars at G3 and I think 2 of them had Lo Pro.

I'll get a better version of Jazz demo up sometime soon I hope. richardhaier.iuma.com

ANYONE KNOW HOW TO COMPRESS VIDEO REALLY WELL?

Pictures added to site, also added this week was Jazz Demo and Blues Tribute Jam

The Blues Tribute Jam was dedicated to my uncle who died this August. He was the guitarist in the house band at this bar for over 2 years.

I had not been playing guitar for about 3 months at this point. This was pretty much the first time I played since my injury.

Ya Yo - I must've listened to that song hundreds of times and for some reason I do not recall rock-a-bye-baby

McDave - Yeah, well unfortunately, the drummer went on to another band with some guys I know. They're great. They're playing a gig New Years at a bar nearby.

For the videos of the shows I played on Friday, how do I either get more space to post videos on a site or compress them really well?
