Fusion5000 - Thank you defaming my playing. I've tried to argue rationally regarding certain topics but you won't recognize any of it. Let's keep eachother's names out of eachother's posts from now on.

OCP - I actually have quite the list of songs to learn, and believe me, learning songs from you, Matt, Pete and Clarky are on it. DCK aswell, Cube Become I in particular. I haven't heard too much DCK. Any recommendations for DCK songs?

OCP / Matt / DCK / Invigor - Thanks for the kind words, some more so than I can accept.

Austin / Trutina - I'll definately check out Gargoyles. Link?

Cube - What is your practice schedule/routine like?

Jeof - Once you get past the first A9 stretch chord and a chord up in the 7th position, you'll be fine.

Master Yoda - I pick up a guitar and draw a totally blank. I can't think of what to do and I become completely discouraged and give up very quickly.

Silmarien - I know the feeling, really I do. What guitar?

Yoda and OME - More people being nice.

Fusion - Thank you. Are you still saying I can't play clean/fast?

Fusion - Yes, I agree with the Gilbert video. I did about 20 takes of it until I got it right. My hand was acting up so I just took the best one. The amp's tone was really scratchy and the place I mic'd the amp didn't help either. It was pretty much a video to record the last thing I could play before I gave up with guitar. The title reflects one of the reasons I stopped. I couldn't play anything but that. I was planning on re-recording it the next day, but my hand wasn't doing well enough.

Watch "Pickshred" or "Diminished Tapping"

Those are 100% clean.

Tapper5 - Whoa man, it's been a while. Nick and Jacquie don't post here anymore. I talk to them every now and then though.

Gammamute - I don't know if you saw my post, but your "Last words" song was awesome. I loved it.

Crispin / Gammamute / Elpp - Slayer took a lot of changes through the years. Listen to their older stuff for the true Slayer sound.

It's funny that you mentioned "pop" metal aswell because Slayer's producer was the same guy that produces System of a Down. Slayer's bassist/vocalist, Paul Araya, mentioned that this producer helped the songs become more ... I forget his words but "pop" sounds very familiar. He was talking along the lines of making the songs more like "pop". Not that they were trying to sound like a pop band but...

Silmarien - Poland and Great Britain eh?

OCP - It's all Japanese to me. All I need/want is a nice clean sound and a semi versatile distorted sound. I get that out of my GK. I can't justify spending $ on effects and distortion.

Mick - Thanks for the suggestion. I came close to playing yesterday but couldn't make it. I have to learn a lot of songs. Good ideas jsut kept getting added to the list.

Crippler - Oops. Got mixed up with another metal singer.

OME - Hand advice? Haha, yeah, don't play for 4 months. I found out the hard way. Playing = pain. I wanted to play constantly but couldn't stop. My hand got worse and worse. It's not worth playing with pain... EVER. So warmup ALWAYS before you play, even if you don't think you need to.

Gammamute - I'll have another listen and tell you if I think of anything that could be changed or added. .. Why's that hilarious about Slayer's bassist?

Fusion - I liked the feel of the lead guitar. Reminded me sort of a lullaby type sound. It would have been better if the rhythm guitar was without distortion. It clashed for me. Just a suggestion. I thought it was overall good.

The EXTREMIST - Sorry man, I know I just disgraced metal heads everywhere. It's nto like me to do that. I mixed up with another metal vocalist name.

Tapper5 - I will let Nick and Jacquie know.

-On a G3 note, personally, I would LOVE to see Paul Gilbert take the stage with Joe and Steve. He has proven himself as a superb rock improvising guitarist which is perfect for the G3 jams.

He also has more than enough interesting instrumentals to fill his own set.

Paul is an excellent live performer and spontaneous guitarist. He will always get my vote as the next G3 candidate.

Fall? Awesome, how do people know this?

Where's the official news?

Matt: Yingwie? He must be new, i've never heard of him before.

I mean there are rockstars who's names begin with 'Y', but 2 vowels as the first 2 letters? This guy must be extra great.

Simon Manzer - What are you even doing on this site? You don't even like Joe as far as we know and all you talk about is other guitar players.

You think Yngwie is so great, yet his set will be interesting for roughly 4 minutes assuming he uses his 5 licks in that time... which he'll probably use in the first 6 seconds.

He'll probably write a song that he'll get one of his gimmicky 80's vocalists to sing on. It will be entitled "Yngwie is better than you." It will consist of only 2 licks and power chords. He will play no less than 26 notes per second.

Paul is the perfect candidate for G3. Excellent blues chops and improv. Has the finger flapping maneuvers which passes initiation, has his own sound, plays Ibanez, great stage performer.

Yngwie = Fat, still can't go a day without telling everyone that the his 'Alchemy' record is the greatest record of all time.

Fan: Hey Yngwie! ("Ing-Wee")

Yngwie: That's not my name! You're not my fan anymore, get out! ------

Fan: "Hey Yngwie ("eng-vay"), I found a guitarist that plays as fast as you!"

Yngwie: That's rubbish, get out, you're not my fan anymore! -------

(monologue) Yngwie: ....Do you know who you're messing with?! I'm Yngwie "F*********" Malmsteen! .... Don't you know?! A harmonic minor! You should all have posters of me on your bedroom ceilings. Especially ones of me doing the spilts and high kicks in my tight leather pants.

Ovation - Paul rocks! What a ham.

Fusion - Oh I see. By "Blow off the stage" you mean bore people in the shortest amount of time possible with fast ascending picking licks all in the same key. Ok, now we gotcha.

And by Blow off the stage you must also mean "friendly jam" rather than "Competition? Get out of here!"

Ok, now we're reading ya. ... --- ... Oh and also, if FASTER PLAYING = BLOW OFF THE STAGE, that means this year, everyone's gonna come with a drill and attach picks to the drill bit and just run it along their strings. No other way to play faster than that.

DREMEL TOOLS OWN THE STAGE!

It's D3 this year.

Mick87 - Yeah, I think they're offering College courses now on how to properly make fun on WXYZngwie.

Sharif - Well said.

Kell - Also, well said.

R6Rocker - Yeah, but YNGWIE is a far better dancer than Justin Timberlake!

... and as far as "drop the subject already!" goes,

I dunno, it's a discussion board either directly or indirectly related to Joe.

What else is there to talk about. Huge interaction happening here.

Ah Yngwie Jokes...

HAHAHA, Ok I just thought of one!!!

Q: Why did Yngwie Malmsteen cross the road?

A: Because he's better than you.

Thank you! You've been a great audience! Good night!

The Bob - To put it as simple as possible, the easiest way I found to learn legato was find a tabbed or transcribed legato lick or solo. Learn it note for note. Learn thte notes in the scale that the lick was based on. Then simply play with it that way.

I guess you'd have to know scales fairly well as legato licks frequently utilize a large section of the fretboard.

Avarice - Yeah man, I coulda sworn you wrote all those posts, but i'm glad I did.

Artanis - Well, although I do kinda like the odd WXYZngwie song, the "Yng" just fit the "VaiTriani" so well, it was a unique name. That's mainly why.

Guitarcake - Yeah man, that one is pure gold.

Fusion - Not that he uses it a certain amount of times, it's that he uses it in the exact same way, every single time.

Joe and Steve will take a lick they may be used to and conform it to the restof the music so it works... but the don't have the high kicks and tight leather, so Yngwie's got them there.

This just in from the 'hidden' G3 source -Yngwie will have a group of male contortionists on stage with him while he plays his set. How appropriate.

The Bob - The first legato run I learned was a lick transcribed from a 'Satriani Best of' book /w cd.

The first lick in the book is an example of his legato technique. I have a recording of it actually from 3 or 4 years ago except I threw a small intro and ending to it. But the legato is the meat of the clip.

Sharif - Bacon and OINK. Great lines.

Tapper5 - Chromatic scale is the best idea. Teaches picking and accuracy.

Take a fret on the low E string, say, the 5th fret

Frets: 5, 6, 7, 8 - next string (A) Frets 4, 5, 6, 7 and so on...

Ascend and descend.

Also, another chromatic pattern, take one string, say, the High E string

Pattern: 5, 6, 7, 8, 6, 7, 8, 9, 7, 8, 9, 10 etc...

A must for warmups, and great for picking and accuracy.

There are also some simple arpeggio patterns you can practice slowly. And if you get sick of ascending in chromatic, try another scale. Major? Minor? Dorian? (if you know your modes)

Send me an email if you want me to think up some warmups or some scale patterns you can practice.

Other people could probably help you more though, i'm kind of on the outs with music.

Matt King - I have to tell you, today I was at my very good friend's place. He is an aspiring guitar player and often looks up to me as inspiration and guidance. I normally don't feel right being in that position so to get his perspectives off of me I went to COE's IUMA site and d/l'ed Dreams Creation, Celestial... and Aerosia

He did like the songs, Celestial the best. He didn't think too much of Dreams Creation. I was very surprised to hear this because...

Honestly, out of any other listening time I have given to COE, this time it stood out the most.

Celestial was beautiful and I dug it completely. Dreams Creation especially popped out at me. The song is so alive and full of many many textures. It is contantly and exciting song to listen to and I have to say it's one of my favourite songs that I have ever heard.

Michelle - That is a terrible mixing job isn't it, the new Craptallica album. I can't hear any guitar except for that solo riff.

And what are they tuned to, 1 1/2 steps down?

I have a feeling that there is a spike slowly pertruding from Lars' drum seat in the video of Aint. Shanger judging from the face he makes throughout the video.

OCP - Yeah Audioslave is quite good. I don't think I care much for Chris Cornell's vocals at all though. He doesn't really open his mouth.

I don't know if Morello's solos are supposed to be so monstrous as they are very fitting and interesting. Who knows though.
