Hi, I just wanted to say I saw Joe on Monday night in Brisbane and he blew the doors off the joint. The place was packed to the rafters with even more people than the last two Vai gigs at the same venue. Being a fan since '87 when Surfing came out, highlights for me were the more obscure songs I'm really glad he chose to play like Lords of Karma and Hordes of Locusts. Chops wise he's right back up where he belongs and given how much jammed on some songs and looked like he could go another 15 rounds at the end of the night, it's pretty safe to say he was loving that fact.

I swear the guy hasn't let loose like that for a long time. I saw him back in 1990 as a 14 year old kid who could play all his songs note for note but probably couldn't appreciate just how much energy and emotion goes into his performances. 15 years on I was blown away all over again. Forget all the DVDs, his playing has never been better than it is right now. If you haven't already, go see him!

kendalslack, I agree with all your comments. There was one dude in front of me smoking cigarettes that seriously smelled like a pair of sweaty old socks on fire. Whatever brand they were, man were they awful.

If I could make one criticism about the show regarding Joe it was a few songs near the end (including a couple with the 7 string) that probably would have worked better earlier in the show because to casual fans it would have all sounded too much alike. By 11pm on a Monday night I could see people yawning after a long day and even longer night standing up. That's the time of the night where he needed to hit the audience with his best stuff. Flying in a Blue Dream did the trick but it could have come in earlier. I reckon Surfing with the Alien would have been a better ending than Friends. But I'm nitpicking. The show was awesome, Joe was amazing, and seeing him 15 years on after the Festival Hall gig in 1990 was a real trip.

Steve_E from Australia, you'll probably never even see this in amongst the thousands of messages but... the set list you posted was the same as the Brisbane show. Almost perfect.

To whoever is running this site (I know this will never be read)...

Is there any chance of a threaded FORUM / message board type system being used again here like in the old days on satriani.com?

Over 93,000 members (that is HUGE!) all trying to carry a conversation like it's a giant chat room. Can anyone else see a problem with this? How about a free php-based forum? No need to copy and paste everything or wade through millions of posts to reply to someone, you could just click on "QUOTE" when you want to respond directly, and there could be categories like "General Chat," "Joe's Music," "Joe's Equipment," "Theory & techniques," "Live Performances," and so on. That way discussions could flow properly and be posted in the right categories instead of one giant stream of posts.

I was a member here back when the site first got going (1996) and it was a lot easier to interact with fans and leave messages for Joe that he might actually get around to reading.

Just a suggestion,

Dom
