Conspiracy fans: it's been widely reported that UK & US public support for a war against Iraq has increased since the Bali bombing. I hear at least one news service is directly linking the two.....

Joe - What's your take on this? Oh, and by the way, thanks for a(nother) great interview with guitar.com. Easy, later, Dave

1. It is very easy to hide your email address here

2. If I'm oh-so-great, who nominated me for that? I certainly didn't! I have more faults than you could imagine. I have made several good friends here, and no - Michelle isn't my "friend". If you bother to pull your heads out of your collective arses you'll see that more often that not she ignores my posts, and always has done.

3. You made a *fucking* great album with Joe, and I'm sure the GnR stuff will be good too (sorry if I don't fit in with your gang but I'm not a fan of theirs)

4. Sorry you were used.

5. If your post was not meant to be answered by anybody, why fucking bother?

6. Yes - there *is* love here, and you don't have to shag some famous to find it.

7. twig / guitarzarseholes / whatever other names you use - did you use your boyfriend's login to post that?

8. Finally - yes finally, and I know I fed the Troll, the "joke" wasn't taken to be about infidelity. Only a blinker-wearing psycho-fucked-up troll would see that.

9. OK there's a 9. My friends here - email me. I can't take shit from someone ABUSING her (or her boyfriend's) right to post here for an unnecessary slanging match, for something that a) I didn't do, and b) something that was all imagined. Yeah - white on black sucks, but when someone doesn't UNDERSTAND a fucking joke - that's truly fucked up. It had nothing to do with infidelity, only one unstable person saw it that way. WHAT THE FUCK? I'm outta here.

Maybe my better grasp of the English language did it :-/

PS - If it was really Eric who posted that - it seems you two are VERY well suited. Good fucking luck

Yeah so I resorted to name-calling too, but in this case I really think it's a fucked up psycho something or other, so I have justified myself.

I explained myself, and I sympathised at great length. Just because I have an opinion (just like our *new and improved* hallowed groupie) don't knock me for it. I'm not racist, ageist, fatist, or any other ist you can think of. I agreed with her post, that it was a sad and sick story, and that standing for your rights is something we all should do. I'm sorry if I was unclear in that. I also pulled my English lesson crap to pieces. My sense of humour is obviously not noted. But I won't change myself for others' misunderstanding - that would be against our *beloved* twig's wishes. And my own - big time. I am me. Everything was fine until somebody misunderstood a joke - remember that, and be your own person. Every day people get shat on - why does that have to come in here? Hey didn't I say I was out of here? Dave Mc: you have no reason to apologise. *you* weren't the person who misunderstood what you and your friend said. I don't regret what I said, but I think it's sad that this great place has now been ruined by a... I won't say it again.....by one person and her name-dropping.

Now didn't I say I was outta here?!?!?! Perhaps I'll call it quits at 200. Sorry for the bad language, although it's interesting that it's only MY bad language that makes people say something. Sheesh

Oops! I meant 300!!

Benny Boom: I took you for a stronger person than that. Man what a shame. What a loss. *People* object to *my* swearing? But if I aim it at Joe's talent it's OK? So I can say "Joe you're fucking awesome" but I can't say "Steve Vai I fucking wish I could play like you" or "Joe I wish you would fucking play for seven hours next time you come to England"? Of course strong language is *often* uncalled for, but if you saw somebody you knew being personally verbally assaulted for having their own opinion, wouldn't you support them? You've disappointed me mate, big time. I never thought, in a place of strong people, most with lives and opinions of their own, that I would get dissed for being myself, having my own opinion. I guess now I can see who are my *real* friends after all.

Benny: I accused somebody of name-calling and realised I had done it myself, and so felt the need to justify myself. I swear in my daily life (and I'm sure you do to! admit it!!!!!!) and I know it's not appreciated by everyone. But I won't (I can, but refuse to) change who, WHAT, I am because I used "bad" words, or because I don't agree with what someone with long posts (and orange ones at that) says. Your apology is accepted. I hope you understand where I'm coming from too.

Joan: I have no opinion. I wasn't there. Thanks for thanking me for (I guess) being myself.

Take it easy everyone - is it all really worth it? What will you be able to say after it's all over? "I made someone leave T2J"? or "I met someone on T2J, changed my name and caused hell"? or (more importantly to me) "I am a session guitarist, and helped loads of friends on T2J while I was waiting for a tour"?

Think about it, pull your heads from your arses, remember why we're here, and enjoy it!!!! FFS!!!!!!!

Guitar playing people: I have this book called "The Advancing Guitarist" by Mick Goodrick. It's excellent. Check it out - I got mine from Amazon UK. Theory, ideas, suggestions. All good stuff. Be warned, though - not everything is "served on a plate" - you have to do a lot of the work yourself, but it keeps you on your toes!!!! Later, Dave

In my Satch Guitar Secrets book there's an exercise called The Eight Steps. Presumably the extra track on the Japanese release of SBM is written around it. The chords are lovely! As I've only heard the clip here, can anyone tell me if there are some lovely warm chords anywhere in the track? Thanks! Dave

Nick - got this from the FAQ in the Archive Vault:

#31 dazajac Q: Hey Joe! A good friend of mine told me that you and Steve Vai got together and wrote a couple, at least one, song. He said that the song he heard was called Formula 1. Is there any truth to this, and if so, is it possible that you two might put out a recording of it. Thanks.
A: not me...

XCPX: If Joe says he didn't do it, I'll go with that. I think I got that track when AudioGalaxy was going, and it's *kinda* like our guys, but not quite. There are four jams of the *real* Joe & Steve on this site.

And the amp / recording thing - my Behringer V-Amp 2 is *the business*. There's a free software editor for it, and you'd only need a simple adaptor cable to get its output into your pooter (one of those "big to little headphone things". There're amp sims and speaker sims built in, along with FX, etc. They're dead cheap, built well, and you can also download patches from the net onto them. I think I paid just over a ton for mine - they're probably a bit cheaper now. *And* you can plug it into an amp or PA for playing live. Check out behringer.com for more info.

HTH dude, and anyone I didn't thank for the recent stuff - thanks! I emailed some of you personally, but not all of you have your emails visible. Enjoy your weekend! Dave

Paul H: that's a good point, actually! I did some recorded stuff for my O Level and used two "ghetto blasters" doing the sound-on-sound thing! Very worthy of note for......

XCPX: Yes - the V-Amp 2 goes straight into my soundcard. Like I said - one of those "little to big" headphone adaptors is all you need. For the MIDI stuff - take the MIDI out from your PC to the MIDI in on the V-Amp, and the MIDI-out from the V-Amp to the MIDI in of your computer. Easy as pie. All your patches load up instantly, you get a computer "copy" of your V-Amp and you can "virtually" twiddle all the knobs on the screen with the mouse! Apparently there are a lot of functions available through the software that you can't get to very easily from the unit itself too. I downloaded some patches and they're really cool, eg. Joe's SWTA sound, SV's Flexable sound, a Robert Fripp sound, an Andy Summers sound, etc. Maybe see if that shop (foryour work experience) could lend you one for a few days (or weeks?!). Also check out the others - I hear the Line 6 range is good, but was more than happy with my Behringer :-)

Dave Mc: I'm still here! For now anyway!!! and you're right - the more the merrier, definitely!!!!

Song quote of the day: Move over dad 'cause I'm a double dipper
Upside down on th big dip dipper

Movie quote of the day: "I am the great Cornholio. I need TP for my bunghole. Bunghole. Bungholio!!!

Sorry for the long post - I had a lot to say (yeah, as usual LOL)!!!!

Nice to see some fellow V-Amp fans! Man this thing really is the dog's dangly bits (sorry, an English phrase)!!!!!!

Ally F: Andre is (usually) Eric Caudieux. Michelle is a blast. And I'm an overweight out-of-work computer developer. btw (in case you didn't know!!!!!)... it's pronounced Fridge Ian Dominant, and it has nothing to do with dominance. It's a musical scale. I didn't pick it!!!!!

Welcome here! Have fun! Dave :-)

jblaze: If I ever get to the stage where I can afford it, I'll buy you one. And no - I don't have homosexual tendencies! You're a good lad, you want one, and so if I can give you one (stop those Austin Powers thoughts!!!!!!!) I'll send you one. They really are good. You ever plugged into something and found a great sound that *made* you write something? That's what the v-amp2 did for me. I *have* to spread the word.... just wish Behringer would pay me for it ROFL!!!!!!! Easy! Later! Dave

death cube k: I'd love to, but my music PC is kinda slow :( I usually get two rhythm guitar tracks and a lead track, along with all the MIDI nonsense. It's a shame - I know there's so much more there, but my little tired PC can't handle it!!!! I do have Amplitube, but sadly have to use it to process mono files alone, rather than use it as a "real" plugin.

XCPX and jblaze: Digital Village are doing the V-Amp2 for £99.99, or £179.99 with the huge floor controller. XCPX - yeah you'd probably need to upgrade your pc to get some decent results out of it. JB - swapping spit ROFL!!!

/\/\ike: Yes, he IS amazing! So clean and accurate, I noticed. Like at the start of Crystal Planet, his hand is positioned so "intentionally". I notice daft things like that sometimes!

Man, what a great weekend this is!!! Later everyone, Dave

XCPX: You're not pestering matey!!! I use Cakewalk Sonar 2, and sometimes Cool Edit Pro for audio editing. I've tried Cubase, and Logic Audio, but always found the Cakewalk line a little easier. Maybe it's because Cubase and Logic didn't start out on the PC platform, I don't know. I hear Sonar is mega with Win2k / ME / XP because it fully utilises the 32 bit architecture (OK, I'll get me coat).
You won't have any problems with a V-Amp2 and *any* software really, because all the computer "sees" is an audio signal coming in - it doesn't know (or care!) where it came from :-) The Behringer software is for controlling / accessing the V-Amp itself, it doesn't do any recording of its own. I hope that lot makes sense!!!!

You know I might just change my login name at this rate LOL Easy everyone, Flea for G3!!!! Still can't get that song out of my head!!!!!!!!!!!

XCPX: Paul's on the right track there. A healthy amount of RAM is going to be desirable (say 256MB), and lots of *fast* hard disk space (go for a 7200RPM disk if you upgrade). If you're not using tons of plugins and effects and stuff I actually think you'll be fine in the short to medium tern with a 500MHz processor. Of course (thanks Paul) a full duplex soundcard is going to be a big help, but it's not *essential*, as long as you don't need to hear previous audio that you're recorded as you record new stuff. I usually try and save my PCs efforts by programming something daft like a drum pattern & a bass line with MIDI (not very much strain on the computer) and then doing all the audio tracks one at a time over the top. Each time I record a new audio track I mute the others - I don't need to hear them and it saves my PC from struggling!!! I have a P3 866 MHz, with 500 MB RAM, tons of storage (five hard disks with 20 to 60GB each), and a *very* clean Windows 98 installation. My soundcard is an M-Audio Delta 44 - 4 ins and 4 outs. All hooked up through a Behringer (yep! those guys again!) 4 channel mixer. You don't need so much stuff, but when I was working I earned quite a bit and put every penny into my studio.

And of course you can call me Dave - it's my name after all! My Mum'd be pleased LOL I only picked the PD name cos I was reading a Joe interview when I signed up!!!!

Ally F: You dont want to get pretencious (sp) on my ass? Phew! That's good because my ass is spoken for!!!! It's quite happy farting and pooing for me, thank you very much!
I'm not quite sure why you chose to attack me, and I really didn't want to read you (and your family's) musical lifes' history. I don't recall making a joke about a dominant scale, and even if I did, trust me, you would be the last person in my mind for a target.

Don't worry - you don't sound big-headed. You just sound like somebody who can't spell.

/\/\ike: there are lots of other ways to "skin that guitar-recording cat"!!!!!!!! I just told XCPX (and hence, you guys) mine. Clarky's setup is much simpler (and easier!!!!!), but the end result is the same - widdle time!! LOL

michelle: Call me whatever you want sweety!!!! If it's aimed at me I have a knack of sniffing it out ROFL My name's Dave Watkinson, but please guys, be consistent, or I'll only get confused!!!!!!!!

EDIT/\/\ike: yeah, man! We can all play those double stops at the start of CP, possibly with the thumb over the neck, or the neck hand at an angle, but Joe is so straight! Almost like a classical player! And the two-handed tapping in Satch Boogie - see how he taps with the pick hand? Not just for the sound, the note, but also for the, errrr, sound *of* the note!!!!! Unreal! L8R!!!!!!

Ally: No worries. I get bored too, sometimes! FYI (and anybody else who cares LOL) the Phrygian Dominant "scale" is the fifth mode of the harmonic minor scale, and one of Joe's personal favourites. My arse is now somewhat relieved too ;-)

XCPX: For my first music PC I used an AMD K6 500MHz, running a very capable (and VERY cheap) piece of software called Power Tracks. I understand their latest version now supports plugins too. It's not half as sophisticated as Cubase or Logic or Sonar, but it's really quite nippy, runs fine on an older CPU, and gives pretty decent results. I don't use mine any more, so if you want, email me your address and I'll give you it!

Now I better get going cos this "tower d' beer cans" here is threatening to fall over!!! Enjoy your Sunday everyone! Dave / Wokky / Fridge / Whatever ;-)

Welcome to T2J, Sir Psycho Zeo! I believe Chandler are now out of business, you might find one of their delays on Ebay or QXL though. You can find some user reviews of their delay here. Joe was in Ireland earlier this year, maybe next year, who knows!

Good luck, later, Dave
