Well this Dave is off for a looong cigarette, and then bed... g'night y'all :-) Benny, it's a poor example, but many moons ago I saw a documentary on those veteran dinosaur "rockers" Bon Jovi.... and the guy presenting the show said to Jon "if you weren't a musician what would you be?" to which Jon answered that cliched answer, that still makes me smile (yeah, I know!!!!)... "if I wasn't a musician I'd be a drummer".... :-/ Later! Dave

Benny: it's funny (no, not funny ha ha)... some of the musicians I respect the most are "known as" drummers..... William Bruford, Chad Wackerman, Virgil Donati, (yes, even) Phil Collins (when he's in the right band playing the right tunes), Mike Mangini must surely get a mention, etc... but my personal favourite (well... at least at some point in his career, and certainly not recently) is that Canadian guy, Neil Peart.... you only have to listen to a second of my own music and you'll hear a *real* percussionist is *more than* needed.. ;-)

I just feel that since he did the Work In Progress video (yes I have it, and yes it's pretty cool) he's just not *quite* the drummer he used to be.... I have a fondness for drummers overplaying at every available moment, I guess!!!

Paul H: If you use MIDI I have some pretty good MIDI drum stuff - played live onto a MIDI kit... the files are pretty small if you want me to email some....? EDIT: so where are your MP3s...?

Later everyone, Dave

Yes, Leanna - Pearly is one of the two chrome guitars on the VHS / DVD. If you look closely you'll see that one of them has Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates pickups on it and the other has Dimarzios. The one with the SDs is Pearly (hence the name) ;-) Joe likes to change guitar every two or three songs.

Leanna: I never noticed them as looking older or newer... maybe I better put the DVD on agan!!!!

Crushing Day: Yeah that's cool, I have it on video somewhere. Joe plays a couple of bum notes in Surfing as Irecall ;-)

Thanks Clarky..... you said "I prefer the term whammy because it means nothing... "... I guess I don't need to bother preparing my side of the "argument"...........

Absolutely. Weren't they originally called vibrato tailpieces? But yes, it's vibrato and certianly not tremolo (well, what it does is), buit sadly trem (and whammy) seem to be accepted :-/ What's the world coming to? LOL

Perhaps the meaning of "odd" has become a little skewed... I know Clarky can help with this, but it's not a case of 5 is "odd". and 7, 11, 13, and every other prime number.... odd means "not divisible by two with any remainders" in this case...(like in maths).... If any of you guys know any decent Genesis you will perhaps know a tune called Supper's Ready. Within that behemoth there is a passage called "Apocolypse in 9/8". 9 is not prime, but it most certainly *is* regarded as an odd time. And not just by Genesis fans!!!!

It doesn't have to b prime to be out of time (or some other such tacky nonsense! Read your theory books!!!!!)

Second post, but ahhhh who's counting.....

Another example I just remembered is a "jamming" CD of the "one and only "Beer For Dolphins" band..... MK says at one point to the band "play in 15/16!!" which they do dutifully. 15 isn't prime, and 15/16 certainly isn't dance music ROFL

Nebo Hemphill: hmmm you have a full-length piece of music with audio?!?!?! Blimey! That must have taken some time dude!!!!! What other formats were you thinking of offering it in?

Yeah /\/\ike I really hurt my neck! I think it was from sleeping with the fan blowing or something (I wonder if someone will double-entendre that ROFL). Dumbass Dave LOL!!!

No I'm well aware of things going around and coming around michelle...I only do good things for other people with my magic(k) :-)....

Cool and Ice Nines.... well I think I've heard Cool too many times live, but I'm not going to vote! I'm sitting on the proverbial fence :-P Perhaps I'd prefer a Stinky Number Two LOL

Hey Dreamboye, you've been awake so long and you can still laugh? Man you're so cool!!!!! Do you play guitar?

Paul H "digital paper" - that's a cool way of looking at it :-)

Now I think I'm going to write a track called The Random Overtones Last Longer, dedicated to some of my friends here in T2J ;-)

Enjoy your weekend everyone... right now it's diet coke & cigarettes for me, then some ideas on paper for that new tune :-) Take it easy, Dave

EDIT: Spelinge ;-)

Take it easy, and remember it don't mean a thing if... ahh you know the rest... something about rings or swings or drings or schwinnnngs ;-)
