Thanks for that Matt... I have two of the Danelectro "food" pedals (LOL) and I must say I'm very impressed by the quality & price. The three-octave pedal (the ChiliDog) has more balls than the New Zealand rugby team ;-) and the French Toast is definitely a poor man's Ultimate Octave (but in a good way - I have both ;-) ). Such a shame about your DD2 though :-( but at least you've replaced it with something else, and are happy with it! Man aren't effects great?! Rock on all you stompers!!!! Have a wicked weekend, Dave

Errington: sorry for the delay in rpelying, it's been another mad doggy day here!!! I saw a Danecho going cheep cheep(!) on ebay uk earlier today, and you never know there might be a DD2 too ;-) Even though I have more delays than any sane person could need Matt has whetted my appetite for a little credit card abuse ROFL..... I remember your post about the EH pedal.. man that's too bad... EH are heralded as the fx of the gods.. I have an Octave Multiplexor and it's wicked! although I feel I should say that they're old pedals and perhaps newer technology is better in some respects...? My thirty quid Dano Chili Dog can wipe the floor with the EH pedal, so perhaps you could check out Harmony Central for user reviews before splashing that cash ;-) I think I posted it to you before, but if not, there's a list of my main stuff on my site

guitarcake: you might be getting some praise here that isn't rightfully yours, but thanks for posting a SOTD... I've not notice one here in ages! :-)

smithers Joe uses a selection of wahs... the main two are a CryBaby Standard and a 535Q. Joe himself recently said he was thinking about another DVD with (don't quote me) "some kind of twist"... and please stop shouting! ;-)

hey McDave.... the UO is a fuzz pedal with a second footswitch that enables and octave-up tone. I'm 99% sure Mike Fuller makes fuzz boxes too (all/most of his pedals are based on the classics of days gone by - Tychobrae Octavia, FuzzFace, Univibe, etc).... and yes - mine says "Fat/Bright" on it! ;-)

Rich Do you have a straight AVI file? Try mpeg, and make sure you visit divx.com - it seems to be the internet standard these days.... you could also encode it with an OS-specific codec (like Windows Media) at the risk of losing some of your audience.... who here makes their own videos? Is it Matt? Or RDG? I can't remember... maybe they can help

I have a feeling this is going to be a long post, so SORRY!!!! This dog thing really messes with your online time LOL!!!!!! Hope you're all having a ball, take it easy everyone... Dave

So.... Joe, did you play Time Machine on a tele?

I think it's kinda cool making up in my head what I think they/we are talking about.... like when you go for a coffee and indulge in some "people watching"... making up stories about the people you see... I know, I'm a butty short of a picnic ;-)

Michelle you're so right... it's both good and bad that sometimes it takes something so scary to make us realise what we should have known all along...

So I've just finished fitting the doggy door in the kitchen doorway... should keep those effing cocker spaniels from crapping on front of my TV and SHOCK HORROR on my MIDI pedalboard!!!!! The damn cheek of it!!!!

Glad you're still listening to it /\/\ikey ;-)

Benny it is a travesty, but like I said I like wondering wtf people sare talking about sometimes!!!!

Right, Lavazza time, methinks... later all, Dave

ProgXnice to hear from you... you probably don't remember me (come to think of it I had a different name then anyway LOL)... nice to "see" your face here :-)

Hey Joe after what you said about washing dishes... does vacuuming come under that? I tried it but the only way I got out of it was that the Dyson died LOL!!!!!! Hope you're having a great yuletide! :-)

CP It's a Jackson. I read that the producers / directors got some complaints from "old plastic face" and so put tape across the logo - apparently it's OK to (allegedly) molest children, but it's not OK for the public to think your surname is linked with the devil ;-) go figure :-|

Well, it's 10 past 8, Christmas morning... no cards and no presents for me :-( well, actually one of the sleepover dogs pi$$ed on the carpet (again)... man living away from your family sucks sometimes!!! Anyway, enough self-pity... I have two cats to feed this morning! Better fire up the old van :-)

Well I tried to pretend and ignore it but I failed..... you did it again Nitsua!!!! LMFAO!!!!!!!!! I Am Become Death, to me, sounds *exactly* like (not note-for note, but in feeling and atmosphere) the music on Evil Dead 1. That movie is based on the Tibetan Book Of The Dead (as is IABD, for those who didn't know)....who knows.... maybe Joe watched it and felt a certain way!!!! Joe tell us!!!!

Oh, that reminds me... I have a copy of that book.... perhaps I should read it LOL....... Later, Dave

[start quote]

Now, what better soundtrack to the apocalypse than a melange of warbling, foreboding dones, the last few ulutations of blood flow, and coarse winds strafing through the skulls of the fallen? When physicist Robert Oppenheimer saw the first explosion of his atomic bomb, it was reported that his reaction was quoted from the Tibetan Book Of The Dead: "I am become death, shatterer of worlds". This song might well have elicited a similar response from any straight-laced record executive. Revising his bass-drum simulation to create a heartbeat, and tickling the nether parts of the guitar, Joe crafted a piece laced with backwards moans that sound as though they were composed. The concluding "Rockabye Baby" death knell sounds to Joe more like an Italian soap opera, but either way, whenever he hears it today he still asks himself, "Why is that there?"

[end quote].....and yes, I am that sad...;-)

(btw that came from the sleeve with Time Machine... all those who didn't hear "Rockabye Baby"...... did you actually buy the CD? ;-))

Rich..... if (and he often does) IngVay plays part of an A minor arpeggio (say G 14, B 13, E 12) he *always* plays that with one downstroke.... and that's a sweep dude ;-) there are countless other examples but that's all I could think of right now... man I need some sleep!!!!!! Later... Dave

Rich, economy picking *is* sweeping, it's the "proper" name for it.... you don't have to play one note on all six strings to still be sweeping... check this out.... D-10 D-12 D-14 G-10 G-12 D-14, and play it with d-u-d-d-u-u (it's an old Paul Gilbert lick)... see where you go from the D to the G string in one downstroke? and from the G to the D in one upstroke? That's a "mini-sweep", a piece of economy picking. The Malmsteen rake I mentioned earlier is a three-string "mini-sweep", also coming under the umbrella of economy picking ;-)

Austin, I'm watching you LOL ;-)

Ethn I agree about the hammers & pulloffs, to me they sound much smoother than economised / swept / whatever things.

OK Boxing Day, more work to do, and out- (oops, sorry in-) laws to collect from the airport... Later all!!! Dave

ethn... whatever.... look it up.... it doesn't really matter anyway, does it? you can call it "Andrew" if it makes you feel better.... it's still the same thing. Sweeping is generally accepted (by *most* people anyway) as economy picking "at its most economic" - one note per string..... if you think they aren't the same, then what do you think the two different techniques are?

Ethn... I accept your apology, and offer mine too ;-) although I was kinda getting used to the idea of calling anything that isn't strict alternate "Andrew" ;-) I also have the Gambale video... good stuff, I must say, but it seems to me he embraced the technique a little too much - kinda like if EVH *only* tapped.... anyway personally I use the Gary Moore method - neck hand knows what it's doing, pick hand goes mad and hopefully they'll make a connection somewhere... works for him ;-)

Sharif too much great music has been made with MIDI - what problems are you having?

xmezdelca nice to see you can finally write some English, but that's all you've ever posted here.... do you think it's really going to happen? :-/

Hi cel... the ugly green/black/white one (which will soon be repainted) is solid mahogany... the other two home-made ones are (I think!) alder. I get them cheap from a great little music shop in Wembley, London. Let me know if you want any more info, and thanks for checking out the site! :-)

StuClone although both are good viewing, I'd go for Satch Tapes first.... Reel Satriani can get kinda boring, but there's some good insight on it all the same...

Nick Steve calls it 'circular' I think - yes a definite combination of "headstock to body and back" (like John Williams) and "ceiling to floor and back" (like most players)... he moves his fingers in circles between the frets... sounds kinda funky (and not George Clinton funky either LOL)

Hi Naty... sorry about your connection &-(... I hope your brother's PC is able to cope with so many T2J postings ;-) HNY to you too!!! xxx

OCPS470 dude it's 90MB! No way! Email me ;-)

Sorry for the long post guys... have family here from the good ole US of A (Ohio & Georgia).... man it's hard to get some time to myself.... I can see me losing what's left of my mind before long LOL... at least I'm close to London - surely there's a couple of weeks' worth of sites for them to see?!?! ROFL... hope you're all enjoying your holiday season... all the best, Dave

Sharif I know exactly what you mean. What I tend to do to *try* and get round it is play the notes in (or use the mouse) and then play with velocities to make it a little less robotic (good choice of word, btw ;-) )... but I can't stand groove templates and the like - to me they sound worse! One thing I have which is pretty neat though is called DrumTrax - it's a shedload of MIDI drum tracks played by a real drummer on a MIDI kit. Of course external modules and not the soundcard's internal sounds also play an important part - I hate those cheesy soundcard MIDI sounds. Email me and I'll send you some of the DrumTrax to see if they help...

Dead right Ethn.... what's up with some people? If it sounds good who cares how it's played?!?! Joe originally wrote the intro to Raspberry Jam Delta V with two handed stuff, but changed it cos he thought it was too cliched... now there's someone totally un-snobby :-)

Hey /\/\ike don't you mean he can kick his ring in the ring? ROFL

Later all.... got a real house full today... two human house guests and six effing dawgs!!! Dave

ianjf: it's amazing what you can do when you can be arsed ROFL!!!!!! What's this about backing tracks?

Sharif by velocity I meant how "hard" the notes are "played"... most apps allow you to draw in curves,,, it certainly helps..... my DrumTrax files are on my music PC which isn't on the network right now... there are demos at drumtrax.com and they're all MIDI files, so you can load em right up :-) Either way, feel free to email me for anything else ;-) (sorry for not giving it earlier)

mayhem, you completely and utterly misread and misinterpreted what the conversation was about... get back to me when you get it..... AFAIK Joe doesn't get our emails, so I imagine he doesn't reply.... and Crushing Day has been on the setlist for pretty much a year... a shame you missed it mate ;-) it was pretty fine :-)

Nick, I *think* a sweep is (to certain people) *only* considered a sweep if you play all six strings, although I'm starting to suspect it's a terminology thing and not a playing thing.... :-/

WG20815 so you downloaded the video and now you want the TAB from Joe? hmmm..... wanna kick sand in his face while you're at it?

Hey Joe, you're probably chilling and (I guess) snowboarding right now, but I hope you're enjoying your break from work, and tell me, what's your take on Trent Reznor? (I'm listening to the "quiet" CD that came with the live CD right now :-)

GutterBoy: it's Frank Gambale

Ga6o: good call @ EOC. And lack of shred on SBM? Well I'd never personally call Joe's stuff shred, but listen longer and deeper.... Belly Dancer, for example, has some amazing picked hammered pulled and tapped stuff on it, and that's not to say the other tracks don't! ;-) Just cos it's not not in-yer-face don't mean it aint't there, I guess LOL! :-)

michelle where I come from that's called a 'vumf'... like if you take a drink of your beer and someone nudges your (drinking) elbow... you either end up wearing it or snorting it down your nose.... tons of fun for all the family!!!

Okies, better make sure the dawgs ain't gawn an messed up the place... Happy New Year everybody.... it's been a right up-and-down one for me.... sorry to any/every(lol) one I pissed off, thank you to all my new friends (you know who you are, especially the SMS kind!!!), I hope next year for you all is what you want it to be, and more. rich and phydeaux, we all know Joe has a laptop and I'm sure he has a mobile phone that lets him get online with it? :-/ and besides... if he really cared that much maybe someone "in a civilised area" could have sent a message on his behalf? I'm really trying to give the benefit of the doubt here.... :-/

invigor so that would be Steve & 2 Joes? hmmmmm..... might not go down too well (no offence Matt)

Nick and co.... personally any kind of system (to me) takes so much away that I would steer well clear of it. If you play in a key (say X major) and you want to excel, then is it really asking too much to know where all those seven notes are on your guitar? Of course there are shortcuts in some things, but IMHO systems and patterns and suchlike just make their sellers some money, not to mention run the risk of you sounding like everyone else they taught / bought the system. Just my opinion, of course.

65strat: Joe has his Marshalls on full clean. The dirt comes from *only* a Boss DS1

guitarcake: my site has some reference pages up... the lessons are still a WIP, but you might get a little help there while you're looking around..... email me if you need any help, or ask in here - there's a lot of knowledge in this place ;-)

OK well better go... it seems there's a gap in my schedule... maybe I'll get 15 minutes sleep!!! ROFL Later all, Dave

Glad you didn't take it the wrong way Matt :-) Keep up the great work dude!

I've got my fingers crossed /\/\ike for your m-i-l, and you're right about that Joe n Steve album ;-)

r6r got your mail, been busy with dawgs and out- (oops, in-) laws here from the US. Yes I was trying to be nice, keeky chunt! ROFL... Penistone... isn't that a hill / mound thing that looks like a slab of meatloaf and looks really out of place?! Been there, lovely place. The belly's still here, but I fear my attempts at keeping it well fuelled are an exercise in futility LOL

Right, kip time. Later everyone, Dave

EDIT: I put 'you' instead of 'your'... also....... Mr Nick sharpfour.com is hosted with ValueHost. They're not free, but they're very reasonable and you get full control over your web servers (you can set up sub-domains, etc at no extra charge), databases, server-side scripting, etc. I've had no problems with them in the six months I've used them.
