OK I'm recovered from those bold underlined caps now ;-)

Thanks everyone for your Happy posts! Now a little about *that* site... it's been ordered and paid for, and takes up to 24 hours to be set up & configured, and *then* it's up to the internet's DNS servers to propagate around the world... usually it's instantaneous, but can take up to 24 hours. As soon as I get the email confirmation I'll let y'all know - but remember - there's nothing to see there! (Well, not yet anyway ;-) )

Clone1 Cool Edit Pro is indeed a good program... you can do your EQing in there too, not to mention normalising, other effects, etc too ;-) There are some cool DX plugins available for it too.

DemonFX I use Sonar 2.0 XL, kinda similar to CW9 :-)

/\/\ike fireworks too? Cool! Thanks man!!!

MehYam I couldn't see that video &-( could anyone save it an email it to me???

Congrats Matt on your column! Did you get my email?

Naty do you want a slap...?!?! LOL

Darren thanks! I can see it now! My email address is dave@sharpfour.com

OK working today (like every other day!!) dogs to walk, feed, take home, etc... there's a physics assignment coming up.... and I have a new tune to finish! Later everyone, Dave

OK Darren - will do! Your audio clips are sounding pretty cool, mate! :-)

Rich not sure of your setup for recording, but perhaps the stuff going into the computer is fine, but your monitoring is making it sound less good than it really is? Are you using pc-type speakers to monitor?

Cool, Matt, take your time, there's no hurry, and I have plenty of blank CDs :-)

CD site I've received comfirmation that the account is all OK, and now I guess it's just a matter of time for the DNS details to get themselves around the globe... keep checking, there's a temporary image on the home page, just so you can see *something* (thanks Naty)... www.talk2joe.com... time to chill for me, and a little development on the side... oh HEY! has anyone here heard of the "yeah count?"???

that's right, John. Whether Bil got the idea from you or not, the first time I heard such an idea was from you! Hey did you sort out that hose?!?!

Another thing on the site - if you want to say "that link doesn't work" - I KNOW!!! Just keep trying, it'll turn up eventually!

ahhh Our Benny some words of sense! Thanks dude! :-)

OK OK OK they appeared in my Inbox, and I'm damn well not gonna not share em with you, as bad as they are......

Two peanuts walk into a bar. One was a salted.
A jumper cable walks into a bar. The barman says 'I'll serve you, but don't start anything.'
A sandwich walks into a bar. The barman says, 'Sorry we don't serve food in here.'
A dyslexic man walks into a bra.
A man walks into a bar with a slab of asphalt under his arm and says: 'A beer please, and one for the road.'
Two aerials meet on a roof, fall in love and get married.
The ceremony wasn't much but the reception was brilliant.
my fave... Two cannibals are eating a clown. One says to the other: 'Does this taste funny to you?'
'Doc, I can't stop singing 'The green, green grass of home'.'
'That sounds like Tom Jones syndrome.'
'Is it common?'
'It's not unusual.'
Two hydrogen atoms walk into a bar. One says, 'I've lost my electron.'
The other says, 'Are you sure?'
The first replies, 'Yes, I'm positive...'

OK, I'll get me coat.... night all, Dave

Austin, glad somebody read that! You know how Rob Zombie writes his lyrics? He has the music going in the studio, turns off the lights and watches old b&w b-movies, improvises the vocal and that's how he writes. But did you ever notice he says "YEAH!" a helluva lot? Some people have decided to count the YEAHs... there're online somewhere. I thought it was hilarious!

Grammy thing: sorry Joe. I have to disagree with Sharif though - Steve Vai has a Grammy, and I've never thought his career needed a boost, nor has his career suffered for it. How he got it is a sad tale though... :-/

gotta love dem corny jokes!!!

Anyone tried the site yet? Did it work? Trutina sent me some artwork, I'll post it there today. Later all! Dave

Yeah Hugh by day I'm a dog walker / home boarder, by night I code, and whatever's left I study for a maths/physics degree... somewhere guitar playing & writing comes into it too, but these days it's hard to find where! LOL How you doing with your new toy?

Austin thanks! But I just put them online... Naty did the entry page and OCPS did the "idea for a" CD cover.... credit where it's due, and all that! btw... CDs will probably get posted this week - I haven't forgotten about you! nor have I forgotten about DCK's CDs!!!! oh, and by the way guys - I've thought of something you can give me in return, and I promise it won't cost you very much! And it's not for me either!!!!

Clarky being a big guy I tend to save myself from confrontations in the real world (I even had a very uneventful stay in Rome with "look I'm a tourist" camcorder on my shoulder(!!!), but I guess it's all cos of my size (not to mention baldy face & head - not Joe inspired - I faced facts long ago!!!!).... online it's different - people don't see that I'm a big fat beer guzzling softy!!! But you're right - if YaYo won't fight em, I will!!!!! LMAO :-) oh and btw I fully agree with and support you ( ;-) ) re: composition being the main guy.... although I have to beg to differ with those three Canadians.... Rush's latest album has no solos! LOL

Sueann from NY that's an awfully nice thing to say! Welcome here, and Joe tells us he reads all this stuff, I'm sure he's more than flattered. Isn't it cool when music (of any kind) can be therapeutic? Who needs words?!

OK there is an enormous dog here for the night.... if I'd known how big he is I'd have locked up my valuables... I guess I'm gonna have to put a "NO DOGS ALLOWED" sign in this room!!!!!!! Either that or I'll go and sleep in the 'kin car!!!! LMAO Best wishes all... a traffic warden smiled down on me today (so to speak)... hope your day is/was just as fun! Dave

Rich Steve Vai won a Grammy for playing (a very small part of) a live show which was recorded, and then going home and re-recording everything before it was released. The full story is somewhere at MK's site. No wonder his live DVD is taking so long... :-/ and no wonder Joe didn't win.

Clarky something in Morris Minor would indeed be cool! Maybe you could do some pitch axis into Coal Miner, Are-You-Over-18-Or-Are-You-A-Minor, and (of course) Is-It-Your-Ner-Or-Is-It-My-Ner!!! ROFL!!!!

DCK it's easy - my mum (remember her? She saw Joe last year with me on her 72nd birthday) collects fridge magnets - just get as many as you can with different place names on and send em over! That's all I ask! Oh, and losing the "talentless" on (not)-in-sink - LMAO! btw Happy Many Posts!! :-)

I got into Joe through Steve Vai. He did an interview with GFTPM back around Eat Em And Smile time (86? 88?) and said (something like) "if you think I'm good wait till you hear this guy Joe Satriani. (this bit is *definitely* paraphrased...) he makes my playing look like beginner's rubbish (I get mixed up with an old Frank Dunnery TV interview I have), so I went and got NOTE... hearing those compressed chords... expecting a bassline and THEN!!! only hearing a plodding E!!!! "It doesn't fit! It shouldn't fit!" I thought "... but IT DOES!!!" I guess that was my first hearing of pitch axis too... and hooked I became!!!

"I want to see your beautiful eyes and perfect lip..." OK now I'm scared :-O j/k

Man I got a parking ticket yesterday... I was only in the bank for five minutes (but I guess we all say that! LOL) so i'm walking up to my car, the guy's just putting his little present under my wiper... i say "man! it's a single yellow!" he says "yeah, but the sign says 'no parking at any time' so you get a ticket" "ok i say, fair enough, but they may as well make it double yellow!" we laughed "ok" i say "you're just doing your job, it's my mistake" etc.. we talk for a few minutes about people who take the piss, people who are really stupid re: parking etc... i get in the car (both of us laughing) and he knocks on the window... "can you give me your ticket, please?" and he rips it up!!! how cool are traffic wardens?!?!

Cut em YaYo, cut em!!!!

BFB out for now ;-) Take care everyone, Dave

HRH His Most Excellent Our Benjy I'm pretty sure Aikiko really likes 'his' Joe, but that line made me feel.... err... a little odd!!!!

T2J CD read through Bil's posts over the last coupla weeks... the cutoff is 31 March and the web site is already up. Money-taking for order-fulfilling will be done over the next couple of days.

I intend to finish something I started for it, and I know a handful of other guys are hoping to be on there too....

remember guys, if you don't make it then there might not be a CD!!!!! SHOUT LOUD if you need any help - I'm sure we can help each other out between us! This idea is too good to not follow through on!

And now I *really* need some sleep!!! G'night everyone.... Dave

/\/\ike and Nick: many moons ago I was told that "behaviour breeds behaviour" - even if someone's seething in your face, if you'r calm and chilled to them you can (more often than not) turn it around ;-) Oh, and thanks to Olly for posting the link again, and the comments!

Yoda I have some gear here, and I'm not too far away from you if you want to come down one weekend? It'd be a shame if you couldn't make 31 March. Getting the file to the USA isn't a problem - we can email it ;-)

Nick (again!) good point re: road signs, but man! "No parking between this and that, unless it's alternate Thursdays with an R in the month, you can use the bus lane between these times (otherwise it's an £80 fine!), single yellows are OK if you're taking kids to/from school, loading and unloading is permitted outside shop hours, cyclists want to be treated like "real" road users but ignore lanes & traffic lights" etc etc argh! Sometimes by the time you've worked out if you're allowed to park there you could have been and done your business and been on your way!!! ROFL!!!

T2J What do you guys think about voting for the CD cover? I certainly don't have any ideas (nor could I turn them into an image if I did!!!), but I thought it might be along the same lines as the CD itself - everyone gets to have a go???? Comments?

Sheehan and Vai: I have a G3 show on MPEG, and yes! Sparks DO fly!!!!!

Later all, another busy day here! Dave

Benny all I'm saying is it wasn't me who did anything on the site! ;-) If anyone wants to vote for the cover, let's do the voting in here, and if anyone wants to submit some artwork, send it here. I'll put up anything I get... I think it's a nice idea for everyone to get a stab at it - even the non-guitar players can then do something... of course it's not my project so I might get overruled!!! ROFL

I see they've arrested someone re hammer murders. Good news - I'm moving to that street :-|

Nick ok ok ok I didn't read the effin sign! ROFL!!! I have a full G3 show - JP SV and JS. SV's set includes Shy Boy (well worth a watch!) and the quality's very good.

Damn ballsed up my cookies again! I was greeted by 1237 new messages! Argh!!!! Later all... Dave out.

joe, it seems many of us are talking about the same thing.... we can (and will!!!!!) do it ourselves, and we're soooooo grateful for what you have offered so far... but how about a little "more of th@t blue" to keep us going...? this thing is going to be great! and even if those people don't know where their help came from, we will!!! to me it's a warm feeling that transcends crap like copyright, did I make sure I did an arpeggio, did I make sure I did something two-handed, etc.... it's all about doing something that we can, for a great cause!

guys, check out Red Cross, Red Crescent, and let's do this thing!!!!!

Stu Clone, for me, NFC on the webcast.

T2J CD My track is finished and it's called ESYF. It's something like 4 minutes 40-odd seconds. OCPS you really want a 40MB+ email?!?! It's 16 bit 44.1kHz.....perhaps Icould post it online so you can d/l it...?

Keep those suggestions coming in - I have all your emails and will update the pages tomorrow... today was kinda busy for me.

stu clone: close, it's no effin chance... playing live (even to a camera! LOL) ain't my thang... maybe the more photogenic guiys would be up for it though ;-)

migupais welcome back! you will be able to buy the cd from www.Talk2Joe.com when it's done.

matt i'll check your column out after my first shift of dog walking is over ;-)

Benny, the guy with the ball... I'm just doing the uploading, if anyone wants to write some copy for the site feel free to email me. I guess I could post Trutina's "standard" info message up there (like guitarcake has done at his site).... maybe later! And your comments about imperial & metric measurements almost had me blowing cappuccino out of my nose!!! LMFAO!!!!

invigor my sentiments exactly, you cheeky man!!!! ;-)

ethn, I know I'm not Clarky, but in case he's too busy to reply... in a melodic minor key, triads I and II are minor, III is augmented, IV and V are major and VI and VII are diminished... so there wouldn't be a G major chord in A melodic minor.... remember the melodic minor scale is the same as the major scale but with a b3, so for A the notes would be A B C D E F# G# A. Your F# chord (extended to the 7th) would be F#m7b5, and you'd tend to use the Lydian #9 mode (1 #9(2) 3 #4 5 6 7 1 from the root) over it.... I'm sure Clarky or someone else can make this sound easier (LOL"""), but hope it helps a little in the meantime :-) (I didn't have time to read through your second post yet!!!!)

JellyMan good pic of Chloe ;-) and when are you gonna upload your sheep track?

OK gang, gotta run.... enjoy your Monday! Dave

I thought I'd do a second post rather than edit a big un.... Ethn I'm pretty sure that's one for Clarky (hence your reason for asking him! d'oh!) and his modulation stuff... it seems to be that in order to strengthen the desire to resolve the F# chord back to the Bm (ie a V I progression) that it's been turned into a temporary dominant 7 (where normally, like you say, it'd be a m7), but that stuff's too bogged down for me!!! Oh, and btw... the Lydian Dominant mode is the fourth mode of the melodic minor scale, so for your track that'd be E Lydian Dominant. Confused? Me too!!!!

Also Jellyman I found the track, it's just not listed on the Featured page... sounds good!

Matt a good intro to modes! Keep it up!

ethn glad you got some more feedback today, hope it all worked out OK... regarding your Windows ME (shudder) problem (no surprise).... check out this link... hope it helps... if not, get rid of ME!!!!!

I made a couple of changes to the site, hope you all checked em out.... received some new names, and a new cover (I'll post that tomorrow).... someone asked about maybe having a (small) bio on the site about each contributor, and a bit about their track..... if there are no objections send em to me!, otherwise air your disagreement here!!!!

I've thought about the voting thing, and to be fair (to the contributing authors / name-givers) I thought it would be best if voters used their satriani.com details (or *part* of them) in order to register (and change if anything better appears!!!!) their vote... I emailed Mr Luini but it seems he's disposed :-/ any ideas....?

ethn OK, so you're using 98.... all is not lost then! when you boot up your pc, before the splash screen appears press (can't remember which, so do both, alternately) F4 and F8 until you get a boot menu.... select "Safe Mode DOC" or something similar... you'll get a DOS prompt that looks something like this: C:\>. Go to wherever that file is located and rename it (the command is "ren <oldfile> <space> <newfile> in case you didn't know) and press enter/return. Then reboot and see what happens. Make sure you keep a note of the new file name, cos if Windows starts moaning that it needs it you'll have to go back and rename it to its old self. Hope this helps.

PunkDude75 it does indeed, doesn't it!!

Oh, HRH Ben didn't you say you're a drummer recently? Maybe we could electronically work on some stuff some time...?
