hi all... another flying visit... so many posts to read throuigh!

thanks for all your 700 post congrats!! 8-D

Star Fleet Project I have it on vinyl somewhere if anyone's interested.....

Seville gig with Vai, May and Walsh I have that on VHS somewhere

Alexandre that's cool! Does OCPS have your track?

Spent the day at the seaside today... business andpleasure.... looking for a new gaff... things look pretty cheap out there, and the people are a lot better than the "up their own arses" Middlesex crew!!! ROFL!!!!!!

plug again I haven't checked the download stats, but has anyone listened to any of the new stuff I added to my site? I have SO MUCH four track stuff here... probably about 50 hours' worth (don't cry please!!!!).. I'll stop adding them if nobody's listening!!! I'll still convert them to computer files for my purposes, but it'd save me some extra work if y'all ain't gonna check em! They're here. Catch you guys later.... enjoy your weekend! Dave :-)

alexandre cool bro! What's the duration of your track?

962 wiring a standard four-conductor pickup usually means connecting the hot wire from one coil to +ve, and the cold wire from the second coil to earth, and then joining the first coil's cold and the second coil's hot wires together and taping them up. For coil-tapping you earth this connection with a switch, which can be one of the "in-between" positions on a Strat-type switch, a toggle switch, or on the switch built into a push-pull or a push-push potentiometer. Hope that makes sense!

Added yet more old (but new) stuff to my site earlier.... and I just converted to MP3 living proof that I can't play blues!!!! I'll upload it in a bit! Later everyone..... Dave :-)

ampblaster / dark high Joe uses the whammy with his neck hand at certain points because he picks an artificial harmonic on the open B and.or G strings with his pick hand... I guess to get the right sweet spot (around where the 24th/29th fret would be) for the harmonic using the neck hand on the whammy is easier ;-)

hey PlumLoco how does the AC2 perform? Does it sound realistic? You-know-but-it's-not-bad-anyway? Or somewhere in between? TIA dude...

Joe! Are you home now? Holidaying? Chilling? Writing? Recording? Snowboarding (well I guess there's still snow somewhere in the world! If not, there's still those fake slopes!)?

Take it easy everyone... and wish me luck (again LOL)... I have to move house again in the next three weeks or so.... better find somewhere to go to!!!! Later, Dave

Clarky PCs can be unstable and unreliable, and a laptop can go pretty much wherever you want it to! A properly setup and maintained PC will run problem-free for as long as you like, it just needs a little thought. I personally couldn't be without the facilities that I get from mine (which hasn't crashed in over a year btw)... people just need to realise (supporting what you said) that the operating system itself needs to have no surprises - it needs to know what it has to do, and for no crap to get in the way (like word processors, internet, etc) - a music PC needs to be *just* that! If people stopped shooting themselves in the foot PCs might get a better deal! Glad you're happy with your Yamaha, though, I've read tons of great stuff about it. Starting from scratch to mastering a CD in one box can't be bad!

Thanks Plum Loco - I'll have to check it out! :-)

Benny Don't think I haven't thunk about that! LOL

Awww thanks /\/\ike!!! :-)))))

That's not a bad idea, Alexandrea, but apart from my little edits and additions (when I receive more info from people) there isn't much news to report! Anyone else have suggestions for the talk2joe site?

Later all... Gotta have a kip ;-) Dave

Apparently Clarky it can be (and has been) done! There's a CD / DVD out called 1 Giant Leap where two guys literally went around the world, recording indigenous(sp) peoples making music their own way, in their own lands... they also made a film of it. All audio was recorded onto a laptop. They didn't even use a mixing desk! All mixing was done with the (one buttoned) mouse (it's a MAC laptop). Even good ole Robbie Williams makes an apperance.... I've read the story of how it was made and it's fascinating... not seen the DVD or heard the CD though. Definitely the most portable setup I've heard of, but definitely not available for eight hundred quid!

Nice to see you around Joe! How're things?

oasis geezer Sound On Sound magazine think it's a pretty decent unit, and there's a competition to win one on their site right now... click here. The summary comment of ther review from Feb 2003 was The Zoom MRS1266 is definitely one for the guitarist. It would certainly suit a first-time recording novice with ambitions to record their own guitar-based tracks and perhaps capture the occasional band performance. I reckon there are quite a few similar units at that price though, so you might want to check out somewhere like Harmony Central, and other people's responses in here too before you make up your mind. Hope this helps! Dave

EDIT: The RRP is £680, and Flying Pig Music are selling them for £495.52, so that might influence your decision too! ;-)

And no worries about the money - buy my CD and I'll throw the vhs in for nowt ;-) j/k!!!

Good stuff Darren it's well worth the wait!

I never realised Merry Axemas was SV's idea! I'm just wrapping mine up to send to a friend ;-)

trutina that's cool - Monday morning it is!

michelle you're right up my street gal! However I forgot The Pantsless Red Guy for G5!!!!!!!!!! btw... isn't it Courage the cowardly dog or something? :-/

r6r that's blasphemy, boy! if there was one you'd burn in hell for that! :-P

greg m what gave you that idea about Joe and the covers? R6rocker's absolutely right in his reply... I hope some Chinese Whispers haven't started cos of this! Although having said that, if they're gonna start anywhere it's here!!!!

Thanks for some more gear info Joe... how do you get round it live? What's the SuperShifter like?

greg m If you want to stay legal ( ;-) ) there's a GREAT program called Power Tracks Pro Audio that I used for about three years before I got Sonar. The latest version even has plugin capability and it's ridiculously cheap at something like USD50 for a download, and they even send you the CD afterwards! If that's still too expensive for you, email me - you can have mine for a smaller fee ;-) as I don't use it any more.

I'll post again later... kinda busy right now... Dave

miguel Steve has thanked Joe many times on his releases over the years :-)

r6r every bio I have received is on there.... compression for your track is in the hands of OCPS... he tells me he did some mild limiting on mine but otherwise left it alone, so he seems to be the guy to trust.... I'm sure your track is doing OK! :-)

Mr Nick seeing as it didn't end up on Time Machine like the others it's really Joe's decision.... let's ask him! Joe I happened across an MP3 of Talk To Me.... is it OK for me to put it on my site for others to hear? Or maybe you could ask Jon to put it on here somewhere? Thanks in advance man!

trutina thanks for your continual plugs man! Let's get some more fodder in the bowl!!!! I can see where it's going, but would like some more people's input!!!!!

punkdude75 it will be on sale on the Talk2Joe site when it's ready, and perhaps some other places too! Watch this space ;-)

Whoever asked about Cubase and Cakewalk if you're using Windows (well you must be, to consider Cakewalk) I'd recommend Cakewalk. Cubase was written for a different platform (first Atari, then Mac) whereas Cakewalk has always been Windows-only. Go for it, you won't regret it!

chron that's good info about those two tracks, thank you! EOC is one of my favourites, I see where you're (well, Joe's) coming from about the rest of the band.... thanks again! :-)

clarky it's jokes (and hence engaging typing fingers before brain) like that that don't necessarily get one in trouble, but lose you brownie points, reduce your popularity, and other things!

OK I think I typed enough... there are scroll bars all over the place!!!!!! Later everyone.... UKers - if you bought a lottery ticket I wish you all the best!!!!!! If you didn't then you're probably studying probability and have more sense! Dave :-) grinning, beaming, and otherwise happy

austin i thought it was you who had the "real" story of Talk To Me - thanks man! :-)

benny i think i'm heading for one of those dude! if it ever happens would someone please send my Fred guitar an my V-Amp2 (plus associated cables) the wherever I end up? TIA!

LordOfKarma6 ProTools is kinda moody, and Win98SE is the last version of Windows to basically be a shell for DOS.... things like ME XP and Win2K are all 32 bit which might be where your problems are coming from.... either way, even a really well-specified (and very clean Win98SE installation will struggle with ProTools.... I suggest you try something else... besides, ProTools' MIDI capabilites are kinda sucky when compared to other apps ;-)

mowlie2000 if Clarky doesn't find time there's a reference section on that on mny site

Spent another day at the seaside today, looking for somewhere to live... saw one place, not been decorated since the 60s (man, literally there were headaches papered onto the walls! LOL!!!), but it has a nice garden and it's cheap at £675 a month.... I guess I'll wait a little longer to see if anything more chill-inducing appears.... been playing with my Lexicon Vortex lately... it's amazing! Add an expression pedal and it's Reeves Gabrels / David Torn in a box! So cool! No note from Joe about Talk To Me, so I guess I'll put it on my site and wait till someone asks me to take it off ;-)

Hope you're all well.... Dave

Paul You got it mate!!!! mmmmm... pie!!!!

Benny that'd be nice regardless mate! Hey, seeing as you fells are all stereotyped as tinny-swillers (and certainly nothing wrong with that AFAIC)... what's your tipple?

/\/\ike to be paid for it'd certainly be nice! Thanks for your support, as usual!!!! I appreciate it bro! :-)

I took a big chunk out of my guitar today with the bandsaw... it looks better and (more importantly) plays way better too.... try it yourselves!!!!!! Have a good weekend y'all... later, Dave

EDIT: I spelled weekend wrong... d'oh!

also.... JOE I watched the Amsterdam webcast this evening, and after you played the Headless Horseman you said that Midnight was something much more serious..... what's Midnight about? Thanks!

regenius Joe (and Steve Vai) play on Alice Cooper's Feed My Frankenstein, and maybe other tracks on the same album (I think it's called Hey Stoopid)... don't know if they played with him though..

I see what you mean Austin, it just sounded like there might be a little story behind it though ;-)
