Austin... Joe only gets a copy if he pays for it. The same goes for any magazine that wants to review it... it's small change to them (and to most people for that matter) and more for the charity (even if that charity is the American Red Cross.... but a kinda cool idea anyway ;-)

JOE you think you might change your mind about the charity? And what's the latest on the publishing thing?

Later.... Die Hard 2 is on!!!! Dave

Vito Bratta! Alex Lifeson! YEAH!!!!

I found an old Guitar magazine with a transcription for Eugenes' Trick Bag in it so I thought I'd have a laugh with it.... all I can say is you know the bit where Steve Vai keeps effing it up? I can do that part really well ROFL...

Hope you're all having a good weekend... later, Dave, oh btw... got another (back) cover up on the CD site :-) I reckon voting's gonna be hard guys!!

Aarren the CD is pretty much ready to go into production, but we still need to vote on the front & back covers (I guess they're going to be done together by the same people). There's a chance that some covers won't be available though cos we can't trace / can't get replies from the people who took the photos which were used in the cover design &-( We also need to get Joe's OK to "use his likeness", and maybe even Oakley's too, and of course only one person has paid their contributor fee, and without those there won't be *any* CDs!!!

I'll add a simple voting thing to the site today or tomorrow and report back after a week or so on the winners. We don't want to piss Jon off, but maybe we'll do a shortlist like with the titles. So, all in all, we're most of the way there, and I think Bil's mailing out legal forms or something to each of us, which I guess need to be returned.

Regarding the potentially-unusable covers, I'll keep them on the site, but if the winning cover uses un-OKed graphics it will have to be pulled at the last minute and replaced with one that's got the next highest votes and the full OK on it. It seems unfair to me to pull it now, because the photographer might reply any day. Keep your fingers crossed!

Cheers, Dave

cos that's the nature of DVDs... to have extra stuff that probably wouldn't fit on a video tape.... and count me out for the H2H..... Memories means something to me, but MindStorm kicks it... I can't decide! :-P

Thanks for the explanation T4urus!!! And MFG.... isn't that Mit Freundliche Grüsse? (something like With Friendly Wishes)? It's a long time since I studied!! LOL

T2J CD so do you guys want MP3 sound clips on the site??? Shout out, if it's popular consider it done! Cover voting starts later today by the way!!!! Cheers, Dave

T4urus I studied for three years at school (man... 17 years ago!!!) and continued a little after I left... I've been to the Hamburg beer festival a few times though ;-)

r6r I had to drop out for this year, but yeah - that's not a bad idea!!!

cover voting is now open!!!

MP3 clips to follow in the next few days :-)

Addendum..... cover voting is up here. We'll get a shortlist over a period of a week or so and then see if Jon can do something on the homepage here, like we did for the titles. Get voting!

OCPS MP3s please!

greg I'll keep all the email votes until we decide to stop the vote. Then we'll do a shortlist (like we did for the titles) of the top two or three from fronts and backs for a final final vote. Anybody who wants the source emails is welcome to some of the data at the end, but I think it'd be wrong for me to start sending out lists of people's email addresses, if you see what I mean. This vote should hopefully go quicker than the titles one because everyone only needs to pick one front and one back. I've received some votes this afternoon, depending how it goes I can periodcally let you know how it's looking (without giving it away of course!!!!)

VOTE FOR THE T2J CD COVERS HERE!!!! :-)

AustiNitsuA you know that crap I had to put at the top of the covers page? All that stuff I don't understand about Pagemaker and DPI and stuff? The final covers *have* to fit those requirements, (whatever TF they mean! LOL) so all I can say is that the final printed version will be a "CD quality" cover. I hope that explained it right!!!! The stuff on the site are people's "sketches" (for want of a better word) - the winner has a little more work to do before it gets to the printers! I'm sure OCPS can elaborate more fluently!!! LOL

Got some freeware MP3 playlist thing last night (cos "normal" PC is still dead).... this evening I went through my MP3 folder and found some Van Halen stuff I downloaded aeons ago.... was there an album called VH3????? I also found some very early demo tracks.... kinda cool!!!!!! I think the "album/bootleg" is called Zero... maybe it's an official release... I never check VH news :-/

crushingday62 the clips are not up to me - ask Chris.... also.... Joe has not helped *me* personally with polls or recording..... the only "official" help we've received is from Jon Luini (and it's a monumental gesture, don't get me wrong - a ton and a million thanks Jon!!!!!)... Naty's right in that Joe himself has not said anything in here about the project, nor has he helped *me* personally.... perhaps your InBox tells a different story.....? I'm keen to hear though!

r6r that which shall not be mentioned is still not mentionable, until we've had a meeting with da boss man regarding the other half's unmentionability... but still it seems the unmentionable *will* be mentionable in due course!!! :-P... bios on the cover? well i dunno - that's Chris & Bil's department.... I imagine there won't be enough room.... maybe an email or web link.... sorry - dunno!!!! btw... you having a pop at me? I'd expect nothing less my man!!!!! .......Screw da boss (not literally, unless the wife likes him, in which case pack your camera) and get yourself happy.... it's the only thing that matters! It really is! DO IT! You have NOTHING to lose, apart from a life less good.... all IMHO, of course ;-)

Melbourne why are you telling Joe that? It's like the dude(tte) last night... complete reality incongruence!!!! Still, it makes me smile!!! LOL If you want to vote on a title you're TOO LATE. If you want to vote on a cover GO HERE .... jeez LOL!!!!!!

SOTD: Limelight, Rush.... even the studio version is a cracker! :-))))))))

crushingday I didn't mean to imply you were taking credit, just pointing out that Mr Satriani has been awfully quiet of late, particularly regarding this CD......

PUBLIC NOTICE Anybody who votes for more than one front and one back OR doesn't vote in the required way will have their votes removed and/or ignored. It's bad enough sifting through the people who *do* know how to read. Sorry, but it's so simple. You see the front cover you like... click the word VOTE and after you click "send" (or whatever) your vote is in! Same for the back cover. Two clicks (plus "send") = 4 clicks. Why is it so hard?

brymstone I'm finding myself more entertained with "the old uns" lately.. Bugs n Daffy, etc.. ;-)

Good for you Paul... hang in there, and don't forget your lucky dips twice a week! And yes - I got your reference... I listened to it last night from the Hartford bootleg!!!

Miguel that's been mentioned before, but I would have thought that people's votes will kinda dictate that the covers match, if you see what I mean. For example, the 2-tone back cover goes with lots of the available fronts, etc. Also, good idea on the links.....

T2J contributors please email me a link to your homepage/email if you want it on the site! Thanks.

Mark they will all be 30 seconds ;-)

OCPS good call on saving printing! Many printing places will accept BMPs or JPGs these days, and I'm pretty sure there are format converters available if people don't have Pagemaker and it transpires that we *do* need that format. I have faith in the technology ;-)

AustiNitsuA congrats!

OME hmmm.. I can't see this CD being on racks in Tower Records (well, ya never know! LOL), I always thought it would sell purely through the internet version of "word of mouth", so I'm not sure that not having a guitar on the front would make a major difference...? Either way, it's up to the people!!!! ;-)

SOTD: Shades Of Gray(sic) : Biohazard.

Right, I'm off to do some... voting's coming along nicely! Thanks guys!!!

Benny whaddya mean you don't have a default email program installed?!?! "A bad workman always blames his tool" etc ;-) ... and besides, Hotmail doesn't need access priviledges! So nyah nyah nyah! :-P

Swayne The Burner it's a Fulltone Ultimate Octave :-)

OME or OCPS (can't remember LOL) I've converted it to AVI so far, checking in at (wait for it...) 746MB!!!!! I've got a couple of AVI to WMV apps here, so I'll work some more on it ;-)

Made some slight changes to the track listing page earlier.... keep those web & email links coming!

Vote for the T2J CD covers here

Later... Dave

BTP if you mean taking a standard stereo audio track and removing the solo, then that's often pretty difficult.... there are, however, hardware and software things available that mess around with the phases of the left & right channels, effectively removing anything that was panned to the centre in the original version.... before MIDI backing tracks became hugely popular people used to use these things to remove vocals from their fave tunes so they could sing along (cos the vocals are nearly always panned to the centre of a stereo mix) if the solo section you want to play is panned dead centre then you'll probably have a lot of joy doing this.... any kind of audio editor is capable of this these days.... Cool Edit, Sound Forge, WaveLab, etc. These guys usually have trial downloads on their sites too, so you should be able to try it and see if it works before spending anything ;-) Good luck! Any more questions, shout out - I'm pretty sure someone here can help :-)

.....blast from the past.......

In March 1990 Our Joe appeared on MTV's Unplugged thing with Stevie Ray Vaughan for a classic evening of acoustic wonder..... when asked after his set if Joe could see himself going acoustic, he replied "I would hope so. It depends on whether I can find an instrument with the octave range I need, plus the proper intonation".... any update on that, Joe???? Is the Buzzy system up to it? (source: Guitar World (with three "hair-guitarists" on the front - Nuno Bettencourt, Richie Kotzen and Reb Reach), June 1990, recently found festering under a pile of "build your own guitar" books in my lounge ;-)

mick if you look through the American copyright register site (can't remember the URL for the life of me) you'll see Joe listed as both Joe & Joseph. Still it isn't a definite answer, I know! LOL Facts like these are usually stored in AustiNitsuA's head!!!!

greg Cool Edit's a pretty decent app, so unless yours came from the proverbial ark(LOL)... all you need to do is reverse the phase on one channel, then re-render to a new stereo file... hey presto all centre panned things should have become things of the past ;-)... speaking of which.... it's Derek Accorah on UK Living... he's a spiritualist medium type kinda guy and I like that show.... soooo.... nighty night satchland.... get voting and I'll catch y'all on the morra! ;-)

dck & lord of karma6 I've read many times that EVH's "brown" sound is mainly power amp distortion, *not* preamp distortion.... maybe that's why it sounds so clean and yet so dirty....? No preamp or modelling rubbish could recreate that sound - you need a powerful amp and (to keep the neighbours happy) a power soak / speaker simulator.... not to mention his hands! LOL

AustiNitsuA :-O you don't know?!?!?! Blimey!!!! But yes, I was christened David John ;-) many moons later I changed my name by deed poll and added my father's christian names too.

Miguel OCPS isn't daft - he'll make *meaningful* clips! ;-) Don't worry!

OK, now I'm *really* going to bed..... Die Hard 1 was just on, so I guess it's #2 tomorrow nioght LOL... later all, Dave

Quantum it sounds like your computer is set up so that Outlook Express is your default email program. To keep this stage of the voting simple, and to stop people cheating(!) I opted for email links, so the answer's yes! Email your choice in the form of <chosen cover>@talk2joe.com with a subject of VOTE, like front99@talk2joe.com and back453@talk2joe.com. Only one of each though, please! We could have asked for Jon's help at this stage, but he's a busy guy.... the main favourites will hopefully appear in a poll on the homepage at satriani.com for the final voting some time next week.

Cheers, Dave

Oh, I remember someone said last week that they heard Joe is sick? Anyone know any more? Get well if it's true Joe! And check out the 65 Hendrix-owned-and-played Strat going up for auction tomorrow in London!!!!
