mr nick ... I know the philosopher's song by heart and I will sing it nonstop at a moments notice much to the dismay of anyone nearby and by dismay I don't mean because I have a bad voice I don't but simply because some people find it annoying and that's exactly why I do it and also because it's so dang funny

John Stuart Mill of his own free will .......

H302 .. "lmao" means Laughing My @ss Off ~ you'll also see ROFLMAO which means Rolling On Floor Laughing [etc] and then there's the good-old standy LoL which means Laughing Out Loud

hi joe,

I'm not sure if you (or any of your staff, or ASCAP) are able to follow-up on any of the proverbial "joe-sightings" (ie, where one of your faithful fans hears one of your songs in the background on the radio) ~ so I'm warming up the car tonight in the parking garage ready to start the weekend ~ it's around 6:18p EST ~ I catch an audial whiff of this bad@ss guitar going on in the background on the radio and suddenly I'm struggling and straining like crazy to hear the little bits of tantilizing guitar phrases in-between the local generation-why concerts announced at breakneck verbal speed ~ though I can tell it's one of YOUR songs I'm uncertain until the very end of the announcements when it gelled with four monster drumbeats and I knew it was CIRCLES ~ YES! ~ 101.1 "The Rock" (broadcasting from New Hampshire but I'm not sure of the call letters) ~ while it may or may not make a difference to your pocketbook, I can certainly attest it made MY evening to catch "a glimpse on the radio" of my favorite musician

*big smile*

cheers, everyone ~ take it easy, joe

oh one more thing

re the improv vs note-perfect debate: Matt Resnikov(sp?) pointed out, "the solo is the song" ~ therefore, each side has its merits ~ I've heard many a satchfan beg joe to do more improv ~ JOE: when you jammed on Friends on the SBM tour my friends and I were in HEAVEN, man!

on the other hand, each song is a direct expression of joe's musical vision ~ while I see no harm in fans creating their own embellishments, there is nothing wrong with hearing joe deliver his songs more or less "note-for-note" Live In Concert where he's inside each musical phrase, selling every note we all know by heart ~ if it varies only a little ...~So~Be~It... after all, one can argue the musical vision that brings us the "final" cd was "perfect" when joe wrote the song- slash- solo- that- is- the- song ...

*climbs off fence pulling splinters from anatomy*

*winces*

ok, so is all the above now clear as mud? [heh heh] thanks for listening ~ sorry to go on and on for so long

PhryDom ~ thanks for that joe-quote ~ I did not mean to imply joe nevers varies a single note In Concert (the faithful know differently) ~ but even if what gets onto the cd is "one particular time" there is definitely a shape or direction to the solo(s) and "target points" if you will that show-up every time (duh ~ I know, preaching to the choir ok I'll shut-up already)

point is, there are many fans who would like to see joe do MORE IMPROV ~ and yet the true fans also know and appreciate every variation from the cd ~ some will call these minor variations "improv" while others want to see joe truly "out-there" winging-it with some Totally New Jams over his tunes ~ like he did on Friends on the SBM tour

I'm sure you know what I mean

...peace,everyone...

Ivigor ~ well said

PryDom ~thanks, man ~ couldn't agree more!

Ethn ~ "Left-handed" ~ LMAO ~ you and Tru, also well-said ~ excellent points all-round

I do find this to be a interesting topic, and Ivigor has a good point about not changing the solo unless you can nail it, first ~ though improv should not be assumed to cover a lack of technique, it should never be used for that reason!

I definitely don't care for scaled-down, abridged versions of great songs or great books ~ ever read a Reader's Digest condensed book and then read the original? I can give a true-life example to anyone who's interested

*pauses to appreciate and bless the resounding silence*

I liked Matt's cover of CP because he hit those "targets"

COE ROCKS! AND JOE RULES FOREVER!!!

2 TON ~ "5 minutes" ~ you said a mouthful, there ~ keeping that one in my back pocket, thanks

hi joe ~ you have the greatest bunch of fans! I like the idea of a collaborative cd of the T2J music ~ great idea OCP ~ I would buy a copy even if it didn't go to charity ~
the child in FIABD is apparently talking about two people getting ready for a date. I've never gotten the first part "reeju"? then he/she says "...they get ready for each other." (then the adult says, "what about afterwards?") and the child says, "sometimes afterwards they still like each other, and sometimes they don't"
would any of you techies out there care to respond to this post (since you all know joe doesn't have this kind of time!):

HI JOE~!!! about the poll for the DVD contest: it's frustrating how none of the choices ~I~ would have picked show up ~ for example, (A)the running commentary of the Italian Tuff charachter from the BBM video, "yeah, yeah, yeah, ok, what else?" ... (B)Joe wiggling his eyebrows at someone in the audience during the LA AIDS SWTA footage (someone a guy would never vote for, yeah I know) ... (C)JR's 15 minutes of fame (D)awesome photo on the cover ... stuff like that! And what, pray tell is the difference between "behind the scenes" and "interveiws"? that was a stumper for me ~ maybe this should have said "interviews" vs "exclusive footage" (LA AIDS, MTV Unplugged, home movies from studio sessions, etc) ~ and the fact I have to choose ONE thing to vote for seems rather unfair ~ if I'm hooked on the interviews, I have to shaft Nigel. This hurts. Maybe I got the VHS because I want to own one of everything Joe has ever done ~ or maybe I just need to see the BBM video one more time ~ maybe my reasons for owning it change every time I get the strange beautiful urge to pop my VHS into the player ~ Life is so unfair (wow, how's that for a NewsFlash??? "This Just In!!!") ~End~Of~Rant~ ...peace,everyone...

Babel Fish Translation En français:

Bonjour à Zenfish : Salutations et d'autres bruits amicaux ! I've lisant vos poteaux, d'abord avec la confusion, puis avec le plaisir. ~ hi~

I want to extend apologies to those I haven't named or said Hello to personally who might know me. This was only partially intentional but far to difficult to explain here.

The "regulars" may or may not "know" me, but those who post routinely, now or in the past, will be known by whoever reads the page. I feel like Miss Julie from Romper Room looking out through her magic mirror: "I see [this name] and [that name] and [name] and [name] and [name], and I see YOU, TOO!" When you're four and five years old you believe this.

The amazing thing, however, is now that we have the 'Net, Miss Julie, or Joe, or any of Joe's fans -- Zenfish Alexandrecaetano Austin Matt King Ovation trutina Plum Loco novjul/hfob/faye -- in short, aNyoNe can look out through the lens of T2J and "see" the anonymous fans out there and say, "and I see you, too"

so here's the deal: I'm just saying "hello" because I happen to be in a lifespace where I can do that, even if only for a time ~ I'm sorry if anyone who "knows" me feels I've abandoned them, because I never forget anyone who has ever been my friend, in cyberspace, realTime, anytime anywhere in this lifetime ~ so there ~ you know who you are and you're always in my heart ~

and some of you are in my heart and don't even know it. You don't know my name, and have no idea that I "know" you from T2J ~ but if you're reading this page, I see you ~

that's all for now

...peace,everyone...

Greetings, everyone

Hi, Zenfish. I appreciate the effort you take to communicate with the fans here on T2J. Your efforts are not in vain. I hear you. Others here on the T2J page hear you also. Please understand this: I'm very sorry but I do not speak French. I used the Babel Fish free web translator to write to you in your own language by translating my humble words. Thank-you so very much for your reply! Some of the words you wrote did not translate, which usually indicates a misspelling or typographical error, or the word is actually from another language. For example, I recognized fire and water and earth from Spanish. Here are the words that didn't translate:

1. l'espérance

2. l'errance

3. Nueves

4. kalo

5. One word in this sentence didn't tranlate: "Well-known J'ai a poet who makes noise."

"J'ai"?

Alas, my Spanish is poor and my French is non-existent. If you could please clarify those few words I will leave you in peace and go back to appreciating your posts exactly as you write them, in our patchwork language of English. And thank you again for talking with us here on this page. :-)

One more thing, I thought Django had three fingers? If he had only two then his art is even more spectacular!

Austin ~ why would you automatically skip a paragraph written in a foreign language? you could use web translation if you were sufficiently motivated ~ don't be a xenophobe, man! you're better than that!

good thing "lurking" is not the same as "stalking", or Joe would be the #1 stalker on this page! LoL!!!

trutina ~ Hello again :-) that quote from Donald Rumsfeld sounds eerily similar to quotes on BushGrammar.com ~ I've heard it said "Language is a virus" ~ so maybe DonR is catching the thought and speech of Dubya? ~ ahhh, yes, that would explain a lot :-)
...peace2all...
