Do The Stu - I was just going to transcribe the parts where Joes talks about songs. I already transcribed the part where Joe talks about Big Bad Moon and the whole harmonica thing, but I think there was something about The Forgotten as well - something about Joe feeling that the song was cursed, and I couldn't remember if he talked about any other songs.

webmaster - thanks for putting Kikkerfest.com back online! Much appreciated. One quick question - I'd love to use a scan of the photo of Joe writing (in the Electric Joe Satriani CD) for my web site. Do you know who I should get permission from, or do I need permission? (SatchNotes will be a non-commercial site - no ads. Worst case, I'll put a donation form on there.) Sorry for all the questions - I think I'm done now...

SatchNotes.com is live, finally! Please check it out and let me know what you think. And please post your own personal stories about the songs in the forums area ("Share Your Stories" link, or links from each song notes page). There's a lot more info coming, but it will probably take a while as I'm in the middle of moving, and can't find half my stuff :-) And if you have more info about a song, the best place to post it is in the forum section as well. If you can attribute the quote/info, I'll post it to the main song page and give you credit.

Big thanks to webmaster Jon Luini for being so responsive about all my questions (both now and a year ago :-)). A lot of other people helped make the site happen as well - I'll make sure and credit everyone on the "About" page as soon as I find time.

webmaster: Ok, thanks. I'll add the picture as soon as I can locate my scanner...

Satriella - thanks! Glad to be back.

Satriella - I'm guessing some of the songs you don't recognize are from the NASCAR '06 video game that hasn't been released in CD format yet (it's supposed to be at some point, or as separate downloads on iTunes, Rhapsody, etc.). I don't have any info on any of them, actually.

If you haven't heard "The Mini Colossal Song", you've got to check it out. Here's the Mini Colossal Amp video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPPCZi2osK4

and the song is a free download at: http://www.peavey.com/assets/media/audio/00590670_5.mp3

Yeah, that's pretty much why I've been away from here. I always seemed to just post updates on SatchNotes here, so I wanted to wait until I really had something before I posted again.

BTW, does anyone know for sure what S.M.F. means? I've heard rumors...

Powerslave - that's pretty much what I heard - Sick Mother F'er. I don't remember the source on that, though - I think someone just told me that, actually.... Do you know your source?

Satriella - yeah, the Mini Colossal Song just rocks. "I never have anything..." - not true. You've got some of the best Satriani drawings I've seen (what's your web site again?), and you make people feel welcome here (speaking for myself, anyway).

Captain Steve - that's the best one I've heard yet - it certainly describes the song well :-)

wasp2020 - thanks for the plug :-), and thanks for helping me out with getting more info for the site.

-- It's kind of buried in the about section of my site, but I'm offering $25 for anyone who can figure out the whole spoken word intro to Flying In A Blue Dream, and $25 more if you can tell me exactly where it came from (radio, tv show name). I've tried using a demo of a very expensive audio forensics tool with no luck (but I really didn't know what I was doing...).

jblaze - hmm - that's interesting about a part being in another language. Here's what Dave over at SatrianiScience.com figured out:

(MAN) What about afterwards?

(BOY) Sometimes afterwards they still like each other, and sometimes they don't.

-- I used DC Live Forensics, btw. It's ~$1,200 to buy. I just downloaded the free version that works on 30 second clips (perfect for the intro :-)).

jblaze - I'm sure he's just guessing, too. He said it sounded more clear on a boot that he has. I'm pretty sure it's all the same recording of the interference, which actually gives me an idea - maybe some software could take all the versions of the intro to the song, and isolate the interference and pick out the cleanest parts (sort of along the same lines as HDR photography). That would take some doing, though, I bet. Maybe somebody on "the inside" could provide the interference recording for further analysis. Or maybe Joe doesn't want people to know what is being said... Or maybe I'm using the word maybe way too much... You're right, though, the frequencies are bumping right up against each other with the interference and guitar feedback, so they're really difficult to separate.

Congrats to all the contest winners! (someone please take me along with you to the show!)

Satriella - hehe :-) Thanks for the link to your drawings.

Cork1 - Welcome to T2J. I've got family in Ireland (from Offaly). It is a great place. BTW, this girl?? http://www.vai.com/index_tour07/index_20070720.html If so, wow, nice work...

jblaze - Joe said before (liner notes on Electric Joe Satriani) that he doesn't know what is being said at the beginning of FIABD. I'm sure he knows what S.M.F. means, though...

I'll try asking nicely: Joe, could you please tell us what S.M.F. means? :-)

Speaking of the Electric Joe Satriani...

Webmaster - last question for a while I hope - I'd like to include info from the liner notes of The Electric Joe Satriani album on SatchNotes.com, but I know that the liner notes may be a big part of the reason that people might buy that album (and the new Surfing box set), and the last thing I want to do is take away sales from Joe. One idea I thought of was to include just one fact from a few of the songs, and note that there's more info about the song on the liner notes, and then link to the Sony store or something like that. I could even include Joe's referral code, if he's got one. So then he potentially gets more money. I'd also probably want to hold off on posting any new Surfing liner notes at all for a while. Does this sound ok?

I just ordered the SWTA set - does anyone know how you know if you get a signed copy or not? When I added it to the cart, it said nothing about a signed sleeve, but it did on the product page. I remember when ordering from Sony before that it added a "signed sleeve" to your cart...

EDIT: I just ordered one from the Sony Music Store as well, but no mention of the signed copy. I hope I didn't buy it too late... Oh well, I'll give one away on SatchNotes.

I just realized that I will have now bought five Surfing With The Alien albums. (1 cassette, 1 regular CD (lost/stolen), 1 remastered CD, and 2 Legacy Editions) Quite a lot for an album that's nowhere near my favorite Satriani release :-)

I have to check out the latest Guitar World.

webmaster - thanks for the response. I wasn't going to pull any footage, just some liner note song info quotes. But, from what you've said, it sounds like the same still applies - I can quote a few things here and there, but don't pull off everything.

cosmic_ape - thanks! Glad you like the site. Sorry I didn't see your post before. Hmm - I really hope I get a signed version. I've had good luck before from the Sony Store.

Satriella - yeah, FIABD is way up there too. The great songs are easily some of Joe's best, but I can't listen to the album all the way through without skipping a few here and there. Probably my 4th favorite album.

About Joe politely answering questions he's been asked a million times, I don't know how he does it. Eventually, I think I'd be all over a reporter, telling them to do some basic homework (but then people would probably say I'm the jerk. All part of being a true professional, I guess. Good thing I don't get many (um, any) press interviews about my job :-)). The coolest thing is that even when asked a question like that, Joe will many times add more information than he's talked about before, so it's not a total loss.

Daddariosoul - ok, thanks. Yeah, me too. Like I said, Surfing isn't my favorite album, but it is *the* big release for Joe, so having that signed would be awesome.

"the weeping demonwah" - now that's a seriously cool phrase. I feel like writing a song to that title, but I don't think I could do it justice :-)

BTW, I'm not trying to make fun of you, kreak - I can't speak or write any other languages. Speaking of which, anyone know Russian? http://www.guitars.ru/05/info.php?z787

Also, if you're asking about whether or not Joe uses a wah, he does use one quite a bit. He started using one in the 1970's, gave it up for a while, then picked it back up again starting with the song, "Surfing With The Alien".

I had a dream that Joe pulled a "Baba O'Reilly" with some of the posts from T2J, and assigned each letter in each word a musical value, then used it as a background to a song. Very strange.

cheese - just checked out the Grace Potter thing - wow! Great performances by everybody (except the trumpet player seemed a little off to me at times, but otherwise he was really cool). Joe looks totally possessed :-) - great solo, though, and flavorings throughout the song. Checking out Grace Potter's music now on Yahoo Music...

Thanks for the interview link as well. I'll listen to that soon too.

About the surgery - is everything ok? (yes or no is cool if you don't want to go into details)

cheese - glad you're ok. Yeah, if anyone wants a question to ask Joe, I'll be glad to send you a few ideas (email me at webmaster@satchnotes.com). Actually, any song that has a (0) next to it on SatchNotes might be a good bet to ask about. It's fun to think up your own questions, too, though.

I'd record it for you, but none of the local stations carry it where I live (I don't think - I'll have to look into it again.)

Here's a question (not a good one for Rockline, though :-) - Joe posted this back in '06:

"Chad, that's a John Cuniberti song title!... Joe" http://www.satriani.com/perl/2002/ttj/main?thread=1&age=&page=4965&author_id=&search_str=

I searched through 15 days worth of posts and can't find a "Chad". So I'm assuming that somebody edited their name.

My best guess is that Joe is talking about the post from js1200js1000:

"...LISTENING TO COOL#9 GOOD SONG..."

since right after that, and after a flurry of blue text from Joe, js1200js1000 says "What about me?" :-)

So, does js1200js1000 = chad?

EDIT: Think I just figured it out, js1200js1000 does = chad: http://www.satriani.com/perl/2002/ttj/main?thread=1&author_id=118150

Sorry if you're in the witness protection program or something, dude. If so, you need to cover your tracks better :-)

Still not enough to go on to put it on SatchNotes, though, since no question was directly asked. Way too much work for a small bit of info :-)

jeremywills - I was never going to post any DVD clips at all (webmaster misunderstood my post), just liner notes. I'll probably wait a few months to even do that, and then only post a few notes, with an explanation that there's more info on the actual CD, with a link to buy the CD (with no referral profits going to me). The last thing I want to do is take away sales from Joe.

js1200js1000 - hmm, if it's not Cool #9, then I can't figure it out from your posts around that date. I didn't think that one was Cuniberti, since Glyn Johns produced the self-titled blues album...

That's alright - thanks for the help. Non-threaded discussions make research really fun sometimes :-)

jackthrift - Joe used to teach guitar lessons, to anyone wanting lessons from SecondHand Guitars (I think that's the name of the shop), and to some pretty famous people (Kirk Hammet (Metallica), Steve Vai (solo, David Lee Roth), David Bryson (Counting Crows), Larry LaLonde (Primus), etc.), but he gave that up a long time ago. Unless you meant there's a rumor that he's teaching again, which I haven't heard...

Check out http://www.zipworld.com.au/~mayor/satriani/science_students.html for info on some of Joe's students, if you're interested.

webmaster - ok, thanks for clearing that up (I misunderstood that you misunderstood...). BTW, I ended up not needing a lot of the Super Colossal and Is There Love In Space? podcasts, but I can email you the full transcriptions if you want to use them for anything. I've also got a normalized database of all of Joe's songs cross-referenced with albums in MySQL and MSSQL formats if you would want to use either of those for anything.

slanshroom - congrats!!

daimer - I assume you can read this? http://www.guitars.ru/05/info.php?z787 If so, I'll send you a few bucks if you want to transcribe it for me.
