This interview is awesome. The interviewer just has some really interesting ways of putting things, and gets Joe talking about some cool stuff (like paragraphs about the Possessed album that Joe co-produced).

"I Believe" is the answer:

Check out the audio clip: I Believe, reggae style... (cover by Rita Glassman)

If you're in the US, you can listen to full version here (free and legal): I Believe by Rita Glassman

Satriella - I thought the rendition was ok, but if you're going to do reggae, you need a strong voice, and Rita's isn't strong enough for it. I love the idea of making a Joe song into a reggae song, though.

biezebaazeroadie - Yes, Steve Vai took lessons from Joe. I think the story goes that Steve and a friend took lessons together and split the cost - $5 or something like that. I think I remember reading that Steve wasn't even interested in taking guitar lessons, and the friend talked him into it. But Joe and Steve grew up in the same place in New York, and went to the same high school.

Best way to get an autographed photo of Joe? I assume the best way would be to meet him and ask him to sign one for you, but the easiest way would be eBay. Joe signs TONS of stuff for people, so the prices on eBay are usually pretty reasonable, as his autographs aren't really that rare.

gfonseca - Does your vinyl copy of Not Of This Earth have an etching on the record? I remember reading somewhere that Joe had some sort of inscription burned onto some of the records. Can't remember where I saw that, though.

Satriella - Yeah, fruit on the amp making it sound different?? Kinda strange...

BTW, does anyone have a good question or two for me to ask Steve Vai when I meet him in Philly? I thought I had a few good ones, but then I looked at the "Questions that have been asked to death" section on Vai's forums, and all my "unique" questions were there. For as much as I like his music, I don't know much about him at all...

This site is pretty cool: Spock.com (nothing to do with Star Trek)

check out this query: Internet Celebrity

of course, Joe is on there as well: Joe Satriani

BadNomad - thanks for the question. I'll see what I get to ask. I'm not sure how this is all going to work out logistically - there were 2,500! winners of the Sound Theories CD aftershow pass giveaway - what if they all decide to come to the same city? :-) And they're still doing the EVO premium tickets on top of that...

I feel like asking him questions about Joe, but I suppose that would be a bit rude :-). Maybe I'll sneak one in if I get the chance. Gotta hit Google and come up with something really unique...

jsbluedream - ZZ does play guitar. Joe said something like that ZZ is better than Joe was at ZZ's age.

guitarman13 - thanks for sharing the pics. Some good ones there - I liked the one of Jeff playing the best, actually, followed by the Dave pics.

I'm not going to see Steve Vai in Philly now due to family reasons - I gave away my backstage pass. I'm a bit bummed about it, but would be a lot more bummed if it was a backstage pass to see Joe. Thanks to all of you who sent me questions to ask Vai.

BTW, Anybody get a signed copy of the SWTA sleeve yet in the mail from the pre-orders? Just wondering.

How cool is this photo (by Jon Luini)

Homestar Runner says "Satriani 5" in this cartoon: http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail138.html

Unfortunately, this one isn't very funny...

Random Satriani fact: Joe has no middle name (source: post by Joe on T2J a long time ago - sorry don't feel like digging up the link).

Wow, the Hyde Street concert sounded great, what I heard of it. Joe sounded like he was having a great time. Nice Crushing Day vid, Axeshredder, btw.

BTW, no more forums at SatchNotes.com. Way too much spam on there, and I was tired of deleting it all. It's ashame - I really wanted to hear everyone's stories about how Joe's songs have affected them, anecdotes, etc., but only a few people posted anyway before the spam problem. I've got some new ideas on how to prevent spam and how to get people to post more, but it will take a while to implement them.

Bruce999 - that's what they told everybody who was recording the song to do - I guess so it could all be found easily for later (Crushing Day live official video, perhaps?...)

Woh, that's a weird version of Cool#9...

Do the Stu - I agree. Joe has said that the Enigmatic is one of his favorite songs, too. Granted that was a while ago...

BTW, here's what happened to Bongo Bob...

"That's not very interesting" (Joe, after talking a little about writing Cool #9) You're killing me, Joe...

Ibztone - yep, had the same thing happen to me with Planet Waves. I also sent them an email telling them to just ship the picks to me when they were in stock instead of canceling the order, but they never responded.

axeshredderjc - so, are you on the payroll yet then? :-)

Stevee T - Wow - that was amazing! That's one of the best Joe covers I've ever heard. It literally sent shivers down my spine, and that doesn't happen very often with me. Kudos for doing something a bit different with the song, too.

roffler - SatchNotes.com has links to tons of interviews with Joe on every song and album page. I know, I'm plugging my site yet again. Gotta stop that.

aussieRGman - interesting song, I like it. I've always loved the clean/delay sounding stuff that Joe does (though I think Joe taps everything out vs. using delay on songs like Midnight, The Forgotten (part 1), etc.). BTW, there's a lot clipping around 1:50 when it starts to pick up.

Just got my autograph for one of the two SWTA CDs I ordered (this one was from Sony Music). Thanks Joe!

BTW, I'm working on a list of all of Satriani's contributions, and I can't find this one anywhere:

From the March 1990 Guitar magazine:

"I was hired by Narada Micheal Walden to work on a demo that, at the time, was heading towards Hall & Oates. Somewhere along the line, the Four Tops wound up being more appropriate for the song. I had no idea until my former bass player in the Squares called me up and said, "I saw you've been playing with the Four Tops."

Does anyone know the name of the song?

Anyone heard the all-instrumental N.E.W.S. by Prince? I can't find it anywhere, but I'm wondering if it's worth getting.

Also, does anyone know what happened with the lyrics contest for the Super Colossal song? I'd love to hear it. It's interesting that it even happened considering this quote from Joe:

"When you hear an instrumental song someone is singing over, you know right away it's wrong." - from an old BAM magazine...

Joe Satrini - don't know about the ryth. parts. I know the bass had to be worked with b/c of initial recording problems...

BTW, that would be awesome if Joe would re-do "Talk To Me", either with a full band, or all on guitar. It's a good song.

Webmaster - I know you're probably never not busy, but would now be a good time to ask if you can find the Strange Beautiful Music listening party? If not, I won't ask :-) Also, I can't get the Crystal Planet EPK video to work. Do you know if that's just me? Sorry if I'm being a pain...

Zinc - thanks. I just saw that Amazon has it. I'm not really a fan of Prince, but you've got to respect his work either way. I love jazz (esp. Michel Pettruciani (he's got the best name, too...)), so if it's anything along those lines, I'm sure I'll like it.

Satriella - all the pages are done now, actually, though I do need to do a few minor changes. The drawings are on every song/album page except for the front page, which is covered with album covers. I was hoping you would be a little more excited about it, though :-) Your drawings are great - thanks for letting me use them on my site.

cosmic - Joe said he likes playing it now, right? And he's got a different band than before - he said his old bandmates ramped up the tempo and the song fell apart before, maybe because they didn't like playing it. Something like that, anyway. So maybe there's hope that it will become a regular on the setlist. Maybe the Forgotten will follow as well - one can hope...

I need a few people to help me test out something - I've just added RSS to my SatchNotes site for the latest song updates. If anyone uses anything other than Firefox for their RSS feeds, can you see if the SatchNotes feeds work? (I had to code the thing myself, because my hosting company doesn't like the nice, easy-to-use RSS feed generators..., so I want to make sure it's stable).

By the way, I use this link to get RSS for Satriani.com. It's not as good as having real RSS on the site, but it does get any new changes to the site news section.

ibanezguitars - thanks for testing it. Much appreciated.

BTW, I added "subscribe by email" links too, in case people don't want to mess with RSS (even a lot of my tech-savvy friends haven't even heard of it, which is a shame). I've got it set up with My Yahoo and Google now, too, but Google seems to be having some issues atm.
