Satriella - I was thinking the same thing when I watched the video of Joe playing Starry Night along with Galen in January of '03 on the beach (check it out here, about halfway down the page). I don't know how cold SF gets in January, but Joe's got a jacket on.

TomSr - thanks. I was beginning to wonder if anyone but Satriella was reading them :-).

It's So Good is seriously growing on me. The EOC-like tone on it initially bothered me (seems like a DigiTech Whammy stuck in the high octave position), but now I'm starting to like it, especially on the solo. That song has such a great feel-good vibe to it.

Powerslave214 - I agree. Luini has been doing a great job with all the extra stuff. It would be cool to make a full-feature DVD with stuff like that.

HAC96818 - dude, quit all the reposts! Like I said before, it's not going to affect Joe's decision one way or another.

OCPS470 - when I read that lesson for the first time a ways back, it changed the way I played the guitar.

Cyber Alien - interesting. I don't think Joe's going to share his ten words, even if you hit the nail on the head, but anyway, he're my best guess:

lisTEN ofTEN ...never mind.

Seriously, here's a few thoughts: - Joe said something about pouring over manuscripts. I was thinking maybe it's a reference to what was said on one of the flights furing the confrontation with the terrorists on the PA flight?

- "Decalouge", meaning "Ten Words" is another name for the Ten Commandments.

- "There it is. That's the ten-word answer my staff's been looking for for two weeks. There it is. Ten-word answers can kill you in political campaigns. They're the tip of the sword. Here's my question: What are the next ten words of your answer?" - quote from The West Wing. In this case, there are no ten words, just the concept that politicians try to simplify and polish things too much.

- BTW, here is Joe's post on T2J from Sept. 11:

Date: Tue Sep 11 20:41 Joe Satriani: ...I am still overwhelmed with sadness and anger over today's tragic events... My prayers go out to all the families who have suffered today......My praise to all the emergency relief workers in NY, DC and PA who are risking their lives to save others... Yes, I am from New York, and that makes it feel worse, to see a city I love so much, and have a connection to, take such a brutal hit.... My family and most of my friends in the middle of it managed to get home eventually, but not unscathed... I wait to hear from the others... I hope and pray that some kind of peace will come of this. But, I know that first there will be hell to pay... Joe...

Satriella - sweet! I didn't know there was a fan art section of this site. There's some good stuff there - you're new Joe drawing is certainly good enough to be there.

I've always wanted to draw a picture of Joe in concert, with Jimi standing at the side of the stage, just out of the audience's view, looking on in admiration. I've got the whole thing in my head, I just don't think I could do it justice to actually create it.

BTW, have you seen Leonardo DaVinci's notes on anatomy? Things like - 5 eyes can fit perfectly horizontally across your head. The eyes are in the exact middle of your head. The edges of a mouth at rest line up with the middle of each of your eyes. Etc.

They helped me out significantly when I first started drawing faces. Anyway, it looks like you have, taking another quick look at your drawings.

Also, I hear you with important family/friends things conflicting with Joe concerts. It happened to me back with the SBM tour with Dream Theater. It's really not even a tough call, actually, if you really are forced to decide between the two. You know the right thing to do, and you'd eventually feel horrible if you picked Joe over family. Or you should, at least...

Satriella - I'm a rocket scientest, actually. It's not as hard as people think. I'll trade you a lesson in rocket science for a drawing lesson! Just kidding (I'm not a rocket scientist) - what you said just reminded me of the story with Eddie Van Halen and the brain surgeon:

"One day in 1992, Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen told an MTV audience that playing guitar wasn't as difficult as brain surgery. A few days later, he was amused to receive a letter from a brain surgeon offering to swap surgery lessons for guitar lessons." - http://anecdotage.com/index.php?aid=4584

That anecdote site is pretty neat - too bad they don't have anything on Joe. There's some cool stuff about Jimi, though, like this:

"Hendrix played right-handed whenever his father was present... because the man believed that left-handedness was a sign of the devil."

achoo - EA's site said that they are going to release the NASCAR '06 soundtrack a while back (it's all Joe's songs as far as I know), but I haven't seen mention of it since. Some of Joe's existing songs were featured in previous NASCAR games - don't remember which ones, offhand.

CyberAlien - Party On The Enterprise was the original name for Crowd Chant. It was supposed to have sound effects from Star Trek, but there were legal issues, so they went by the working name instead. It was changed too late for some music services. I think the keyboard (organ) sounds were added late, too, as I heard some sound samples without them.

Webmaster - bring back the FAQ!!!

Browsing the archives again for my project. I'm almost done (with the T2J archives). Anyway, does anyone know if Joe has done any more National Anthem's for any sports teams since 2002?

"Date: Fri Apr 26 11:09 Joe Satriani: jonk, i've done the anthem twice for the s.f. giants, twice for the s.f.49'rs, twice for the oakland a's."

Satriella - some "famous" people who have posted here:

Stu Hamm, Eric Caudieux, Jeff Campetelli (once, that I know of), Doug Doppler - one of Joe's students

It would be cool to see Dave LaRue and Galen Henson post something.

ICEMAN II - there's a few that I know of:

- untitled (aka Heart of The Sun), from the April 1998 "Guitarist" magazine. It's a track that Joe did in a first take after hearing just a few bars of it.

- Power Cosmic - a "soundpage" (record) from the Feb. 1998 Guitar Player magazine.

- the NASCAR 06' tracks, which are currently only availlable on the actual video game.

There's definitely a few others, but I am sick as hell right now, so I don't feel like finding them.

Alright, Iceman II, I'm feeling much better today. Here's some more albums you might not have known that Joe plays on:

- Rhythm of Time - Jordan Rudess (keyboard player for Dream Theater)

- Crowded House - Crowded House (background vocals only)

- Break Like The Wind - Spinal Tap

- Birdland - The Yardbirds - (cameo spot)

- All Sides Now - Pat Martino

- Hey Stoopid - Alice Cooper

- Soy - Alejandra Guzman

- Imaginos - Blue Oyster Cult

- Love Posse/Rock Steady Party - Whispering Lion (a reggae band)

- Tribute To The Spirit - Whispering Lion

- The Four Tops - not sure which recording. From Guitar Magazine, March 1990:

"I was hired by Narada Micheal Walden to work on a demo that, at the time, was heading towards Hall & Oates. Somewhere along the line, the Four Tops wound up being more appropriate for the song. I had no idea until my former bass player in the Squares called me up and said, "I saw you've been playing with the Four Tops."

As far as more individual songs that are tough to get a hold of:

- Talk To Me - from the original EP (only 500 or so were pressed). The original tapes were too damaged to include them on Time Machine (all of the other songs from the original EP were included).

- Eight Steps - Japanese extra track from Strange Beautiful Music

- Slick - only available on "The Electric Joe Satriani"

- Dog With Crown and Earring - Japanese extra track from ITLIS

- Tumble - only available on ITunes

- Turkey Man (written by Eric Caudieux) - only available on the free bonus CD, Additional Creations, that came with Engines of Creation. Only a few stores carried this extra CD. You can get it on eBay now for about $40.

- supposedly there's a track called "Follow", but I know nothing about it. It might be one of those misnamed p2p networking songs? Anyone know anything about this?

Also, as others mentioned, Stanley Clarke's 1, 2 To The Bass, and Stu Hamm's Radio Free Albemuth, Gregg Bissonette's Submarine, Greg Kihn's Cruizin' the Strip.

Then there's Joe's stuff with The Squares.

I have a good felling that this isn't all of it. I've never seen all of this info in one place, and I just found some of this stuff a few weeks ago when searching for something entirely different.

Hrh Fish

Theres Little wing (studio version) - pretty sure this is not Satriani

Silent Night, Holy Night(yes the carol) - this is Satriani, off of Merry Axemas

a track called formula one - not Satriani.

from the FAQ page http://www.satriani.com/2000/about/faq/faq-content.html: Q: Hey Joe! A good friend of mine told me that you and Steve Vai got together and wrote a couple, at least one, song. He said that the song he heard was called Formula 1. Is there any truth to this, and if so, is it possible that you two might put out a recording of it. Thanks. A: not me...

a wicked version of mission impossible - not Satriani

from the FAQ page as well: Q: When was made the metal version of (Mission Impossible, Top Gun, etc) theme by Joe, and where can we find it? A: That's just a hoax! I never recorded anything by that name... It's been reported that version floating around is actually by Dream Theater. *Joe also didn't play the Top Gun theme or Over The Rainbow that commonly get shared with his name on them.

Bethovens 5th - not sure if this is Satriani or not.

On a somewhat related note, I was just reading about how they now think that Bach's Tocotta and Fugue in Dm is not really Bach. This is one of his better known pieces - aka "the scary organ piece". Anyway, aparrenly they did a stylistic analysis of it and found tons of stuff to be inconsistent with Bach's style, and called the piece overly simplistic for Bach's work. The counter argument is that the piece represents an earlier, more green Bach. I'll try and find the original article online. I think I read this in a local newspaper.

Hrh Fish - see my edited post, or the FAQ on this site. If it is Joe, he is either lying (why would he?) or forgot that he recorded these (and Joe's got a wicked memory, I hear). Like you said, though, maybe some of the titles are incorrect...

Apparently, "Back to Shala Bal" from FIABD was used on a PS1 game called "Formula 1". That's the only connection I could find.

I still can't find any proof that Satriani didn't record Beethoven's 5th or Little Wing...

Powerslave214 - thinking about it, but I don't know any Satch-heads here (I just moved recently), and I've already blown over $150 buying Satriani magazines for my song info project, so my wife probably wouldn't be real happy with me spending more money in the name of Joe :-) But, maybe I can work out some sort of compromise...

Hrh Fish - yeah, those posts from Phosphorus are pretty strange. Looks like the first one was meant to throw people off, talking about Linux, and the last one about Buckethead, seems like he's trying to gauge what people would think. Or perhaps I'm just looking too deeply into things....

here are the posts

Do you remember what question you asked that his response was '42'?

But, if I were the real Joe posting as him, I'd probably ask a lot more questions like that. Unless he spreads it over tons of usernames... Ok, I'll stop now.

Anyway, no harm done if it is Joe - he can just pick another user name... I'd do the same thing, honestly.

This seems kind of cheap:

http://www.satriani.org/

No mention of the guy's name on the page, just:

"Bay Area Guitar Instruction"

Then, if you go to his disclaimer page, it says "no affiliation with Joe Satriani".
