London Guitar Show Day

Hehe I painted the Vai sign on my shoes….YAY they look well cool now!

Journey to Epping ..no problems …arrived 15 minutes early….so I stood talking to a guy from Poland who looked like he ws going but was actually waiting to be picked up for work….but he knew about Joe and is going to Hyde Park…and steve and we chatted about guitar music in general and he said he would go to LGS today….My friends arrived and we decided to drive from Epping….so with many bounces I lept in the car and off we went. We arrived by 9.40 so the car park was pretty empty and no queues for the ticket machine. The Excel centre is massively huge! I Mean really….it was kinda weird coz there was a big golf show on one side…I mean…who goes to a golf show…it was quite a weird thing really…all these posh people wandering around amongst lots of ….well you know guitar types….rocky people hehe.

Er at this point just so you can imagine how embarrassing it was to be with me….every few steps during this just imagine me suddenly bouncing up and down and saying “aaaaaagh how exciting” …got that…I can’t be bothered to keep typing it…coz I was doing it all the time OK

So we joined the queue which was massive but it was cool coz it went outside and it was a lovely day, my phone is going ten to the dozen with texts and calls HrHFish, Clarky and VRFRocker. Clarky eventually was in site….as he comes up “CLARKY” I shout, I get down on the floor and do the “we are not worthy” scene, hold up his present, point to the album cover and shout to everyone in the queue “This is Clarky’s album….get it…its great!” anyway lots of hugs…give him his present …… bounce bounce bounce boing boing

Intersection here…..did someone tell him about it beforehand…coz he didn’t seem too surprised? grrrr

Oh oh then we found the only Art stall….so I get talking to the guy about the pictures and what the artist uses…he says acrylics and tells me lots of stuff about the pictures and how this guy adds these little specific bits into his pictures…like a word in the smoke and just little things you would never spot unless he told you…anyway they sell for £100’s/£1000’s and get this guys…I said about just starting out in acrylics and I prefer pencil…and I show him my pictures of Vai that I had printed off and had with me…”Wow they are amazing…I am looking for a pencil artist, send me a link to you work to have a look at”

thud ….. that’s me hitting the floor….HOW COOL IS THAT! Oh my word….did that make my day…er….well lots of things did actually….but you know to have someone who deals with art say he liked my stuff…..WOW!

Oh oh then….and this is where my daughter kicked herself ….the kerrang stall was there and you could have your picture taken and put on the front cover….Oh my word I was soooo tempted to do that….you could have a guitar in your hand and everything…it was soooo cool…but it was £23 and so I didn’t do it..

Oh oh then we found MikeSb working on his stall…that was cool…talk to Joer number three YAY hehe it was funny coz we kinda stood away from the stall and he said see that guy with the long hair…he is a good player…so I keep pointing and looking at this guy who notices and is getting very self-conscious and squirming….I eventually go over and explain and I bought both of his albums but there was another guy Owen who was playing…he sounded like he rocked too!

Slanshroom – Er can’t remember his name…but guy you went to college with said to say Hi….er….see pictures!

Oh oh and there was a amps stand with a big life size cut-out of JOE! …you will see on the pictures! hehe

Oh my word the guitars! There was this room in the middle with special guitars in from Stars…hand painted and stuff…the first one was had this chain all around it…cool! Oh my word there were so many fab guitars, custom ones and aaaaaagh great stuff! There was a guy who made mirrors….lots of guitar ones and there was a great Green day one too!

Ok then we are back at Clarky’s stall and there are Fishy, Suzie and Matthew Sear….yay photo shoot …that’s now five T2Jers….oh I think Lucy may have tried to call me a couple of times but I missed the calls and I didn’t have her number !

Oh Oh there was a cool bus with a guitar in one corner so got a picture of that!

OK into see Mr Vai….hmmm that was disappointing in a few ways but great as well….I thought it would be a seated thing….but it was just a gig set up really with Steve on stage and crowds of people like at a gig…there was this really tall guy in front of me with a bright flourecent pink feather scarf on so I couldn’t see Steve most of the time….the questions were mostly read out by the guy sitting next to him on the stage…and he did answer a few from the audience but it was only about five and that was people at the front…

Badnomad – Sorry….I left your question at home….so I eventually found a corner to phone home to get it…but there was no chance of asking anything from where I was standing! Sorry

Big Bunny – sorry same for you sweety!

but it was great to hear his views on stuff…(Q..would you like to move into other areas of music) he said that he discovered a while ago that you couldn’t be good at all styles even though he had tried, but you have to concentrate on what you are good at in particular and not try and do everything, besides he didn’t want to be a good Jazz or classical guitarist. All of these were eeked out a lot and he went into much detail. (Q what do you look for in a drummer, bassist) He said that he looked for ones who could have fun, he loved the road and it is a chunk of your life and you want good memories from that, you really get to know people when you are on the road and you need to have people who are not going to be miserable and moaning coz it just ruins it,…you need to be selfless, considerate and fun and be able to play all that Steve wanted on your instrument. (Q where do you get inspiration) he said that it just came to him wherever….he could just feel it coming and that he has to just get it written down or done there and then when it happens….he said he had 1000s of little bits like that put aside and sometimes he will remember a bit later on and go back to it and eek it out a little more etc….but if he had one that he was really inspired on he was very selfish and nothing else matters he has to get it finished (I could relate to that with my pictures!) (Q How many hours should I force my son to practice guitar) he laughed and said 23 …but then he talked about how his dad used to make him play the piano accordian …and he hated it but he did it….eventually his dad said he didn’t have to anymore and he was relieved…and when he got a guitar he just picked it up…Oh oh he said that he is not a natural and has to work really hard and he can’t play anything else…but some are…anyway he said not to force but just encourage and support…..he did a bit of guitar playing which was cool but he was really cool to listen too.

Er Er…I can’ remember any more of the questions….we went back to the same place later and saw the Blockheads…they ewre pretty funky….did the classics…Hit me, sex drugs and rock n roll etc so it was good to boogie about to them and get funkisized!

Time to go….had to go and say goodbye to Clarky so went over to the stands section…had to pass Planet waves….tap guy on shoulder …”Please can I have it” I said jumping up and down “no” “Please Please”….” Really I haven’t got another one with me you can’t have it” …”Please can I have it” I said jumping up and down “Please Please” “I have more at the hotel but not with me” …”Please can I have it” I said jumping up and down. It was not good….so off we went to say bye to Clarky….we tried to find MasterYoda…but he had gone….so we chatted for a while, then we left…Oh back past the planet waves stand….this time he was by the counter…so counter guy (looking like…Oh my word that mad thing is back) tapped him on the shoulder coz he talking to someone else…..…”Please can I have it” I said jumping up and down “Please Please”….this goes on for a few minutes…now the guy behind the counter is panicking and looking around and saying “we must have one somewhere” Another girl assistant is looking through the boxes “they are all back at the hotel” says harassed t-shirt guy ….…”Please can I have it” I said jumping up and down “Please Please” so counter guy says…Ok I have an idea…write down your details here and we will send you one!

So we grab HrHfish and off we drive to his local (bout 30 minutes drive) for some drink and grub! Lovely it was too! There was a completely bonkers guy…..but I wont even start to tell you about him!

Oh Oh now have new guitarist to get into….. Jeff Beck….he is pretty good from what I heard!

Zenfish - Oh I totally agree with you on Vai....he is not my favourite at all...mind you I think everyone has there own way...as he said...its unique to each person...you shouldn't just try to copy others...be your own self....which i think most good guitarists or whatever are.

Joe Satrini - Well I guess Billy was right....women change their mind the next day....now if I had known Crossroads was the Part 1....Hands down every time....that piece is my absolute favourite Steve Track....I could never pick a favourite with Joe....but that track always gets played over and over when I put on Ellusive light and sound....love it love it!....but if you were talking just over acting....then yeah its probably still part 2.
