SteveeT - thanks again...
death cube k - I think it is no secret that Joe is an amazing guy, player and teacher. Part of the success in being a functional human being in the above 3 modes is the element of discipline. Slackers don't have the kind of career Joe has. As a teacher he was VERY demanding. You were expected to practice and you were held accountable - he delivered all the goods, but you were expected to do your part. Vai, Hammet, LaLonde, Rick Hunolt, Alex Skolnick are all part of the testimony of his dedication and success as a teacher - what a legacy. I don't think I know of any single teacher who has come close in rock to this kind of roster of successful and respected students. I can promise you that having Satch sitting about 3 feet away - watching you play through your exercises could provide a lot of incentive to practice them extensively. It was an experience that was nothing short of amazing. I had the good fortune to be able to afford hour lessons - for 3 1/2 years that transformed my life. It has been such a pleasure to watch Joe go from being relatively unknown to one of rocks most respected players - and deservedly so. I still have all my lesson plans and every so often go through them. One of them was a major reaming that I deserved and put the fire under my behind to get with the program. I'm glad I did!
Take care, and again, thanks for the warm welcome!

Sincerely,
Doug

Dear SteveeT, cheese101, Keniko, death cube k, alexandrecaetano, and ovation1

Thanks again for the warm welcome. Jon, since I know you are reading hello to you - how are you, oh webmaestro?

There are some real fans out there - 12/27/04 - I thought I was the only one who remembered the exact date - kudos...

Actually, I used to record my lessons and I still have a bunch of the tapes. When I was still in High School I used to follow the Dixie Dregs and my buddy and I became friendly with them and we would set up gear and get into the shows for free. One night at the Keystone Palo Alto I brought one of these tapes backstage, cued it to the appropriate spot and played it for Steve. He was duly impressed. I told Joe about it the next week at our lesson and he sanctioned me a little about playing a lesson tape for Steve, but I think he was happy to know that Steve said something to the effect of "your teacher can really play" - and how!

Stevee T - to answer your Q, I will be touring Europe in April opening for Gilby Clarke, and have been on hold about a US tour for a fab shredder, which would in theory have me coming through NYC. Thanks for asking...

Thanks again for the warm welcome. I will drop by from time to time to say hi. It is important to respect the point of this forum which is to let you guys interact with each other and with Joe. Thanks again for all your kind words!

Sincerely,
Doug
