Hey Joe, I am new to your world...So lucky to catch you at the Starland Ballroom in NJ...Wow..You make me proud that we share the same ancestral culture...DaVinci, Michelangelo, Satriani...you get the picture...Your music speaks its own language..I just started playing and exploring the world of the guitar...and when I saw you I knew I was in the presence of a musical genius...I am loving Super Colossol ..Ten Words provokes internal thought...as this was my first Satriani concert I noticed something quickly...the audience was in absolute awe....figured I was standing with informed artists... when you threw your pic in my direction...I took it as a sign!!...and I am practicing with it every day..so cool...I am an elementary school teacher, and I am sharing your music with the kids...they love it....Have to tell you I take my lessons at The American Guitar Museum in New Hyde Park, Long Island...and just found out my teacher (John Grayson) also went to Carle Place High School...another sign to keep on playing as I am now so inspired by your music and dedication... I have to thank my brother Rich Termini, friends Joey Leone, and Lou Vignapiano, three great musicians whose artistry inspired me all through my life....well Joe...I think I am your newest fan...but since I started writing this message you probably acquried a thousand more....keep on creating and seeing the world with spectacular beauty.....Christine

Hey Joe,

You have a great community here...they clearly are enlightened people who love you....feel honored to be among you all....seems like really good folks who understand the purpose of their existence...and your music connects to their inner most feelings....just so lovely... Love this quote of yours Joe, "I'm just inspired by everyday life. I find it very wondrous. There is so much to reflect upon, to write about, to dream about, and to hope for." Much of life is about perspective...isn't it?...it's not a desert, if you see the treasures in each and every day........

Hi Satriella,

Yes, bliss...you understand......your "voice" is so positive and has powerful energy...congratulations...I saw Joe perform recently and really didn't know what I was about to experience...just brilliant....wonderful evening....a gift!!....Hope you are feeling better...I am sure you will be fine by the the time Joe arrives in June, and be sure of this... when you hear and see Joe play it is almost like a religious experience....creation in its purest richest form...and and and...when you see him "SMILE"...well...pure sugar...He will probably be extra marvelous just knowing his biggest fan is in the audience......enjoy!

Oh, btw...I just realized I bought my last Joe CD at Tower Records in Carle Place...near Joe's old high school.....love the coincidence...hey if anyone is on Long Island...let me know I can give you a tour of Joe's old neighborhood....lol!!!

Good morning Joe,

Enjoyed your interview this week. Thank you for sharing your feelings about the instrument and the birth of the song Ten Words. Below find an excerpt from today's New York Times, Long Island section. This is where I take my lessons. I thought it might interest you. It is near your boyhood town.(It is in New Hyde Park on New Hyde Park Road) Idea: It would be really cool if you donated one of your guitars or something else from your journey to the museum, so that the visitors can be even more enlightened about the brilliant Joe Satriani. Chris the owner has a very interesting collection dedicated to the guitar. This Saturday, while I was waiting to take my lesson, I was looking at a guitar that was played by Jimi...cool. I mentioned in my first post that the guitar is a beautiful new world to me, so places like the museum are invaluable. Oh, by the way I read the list of your favorite albums...it was a great place to start as I begin my musical journey...thanks.. I love Electric Ladyland...I think I was too busy playing with my Barbie Dolls when it came out..lol...Well anyway back to the museum... it is a very unique place, and soooo close to Carle Place High School. When I discovered my teacher John Grayson also went to the same school as you and Steve Vai...well, had to ask.."Is there something in the water?...lol"......Have a great day....and continued success on the tour...and with Super Colossal.....You are a real "star"....a true artist.

"The American Guitar Museum fills an old farmhouse in New Hyde Park to bursting: exhibits in the living room, a guitar repair workshop in the dining room, a tiny gift shop in the kitchen, and exotic guitars for sale in the pantry. The second floor, used for music lessons, also holds a collection of banjos, mandolins and ukuleles.

This museum is not for the claustrophobic. But for those with even a passing interest in its subject, it is, in Guitar Player magazine's phrase, "the Luthier's Louvre."

Chris Ambadjes, who opened the museum in 1992, said it operates mainly as a repair shop and studio, but several thousand people visit each year just to see the exhibits. In addition to D'Angelico guitars, the museum has vintage instruments by other famous makers, guitarlike instruments from around the world and a display of materials used to make guitars.

For school groups, Mr. Ambadjes emphasizes a science exhibit showing how the magnetic pickups on an electric guitar work to amplify its sound.

The most valuable item in the collection is a 1932 D'Angelico jazz ukulele. "It's his first blond instrument, and he used steel strings to create a sound so bright, it's like a music box," Mr. Ambadjes said. The eight rarest instruments, which are each worth about $50,000, are kept in a vault when the museum is closed, he said, "but they get played every night before they go to bed."

Hey Joe, Listening to "You Saved My Life"...today....so so pretty...and has that soulful feeling like "Ten Words"....interesting that it is the last song on the CD..(Strange Beautiful Music)..Wonder what you were thinking when you wrote it??.....Is the YOU, another person....a father, mother, a lover, a friend, a child?..or a spiritual connection, or your music, or perhaps belief in yourself??....such a glorious world we can live in...but how delicate and tender we all are inside...so vulnerable at times...and yet amazingly strong when we have to be.....your song expresses that...and the love it takes to hold on and live in freedom and truth...inspiring song.........I am going to tell you a story...I will try to make it brief....it is a piece of what inspired me to teach with love and tenderness...and most importantly...empathy....I know you feel that word...I hear it in your music...Well this is the story...It is the story of my 2 cousins....one young boy..Frankie ....from a home that didn't know how to "express" love properly ...beautiful gentle boy....by the time he was 18 he was dead.... escaped into drugs....escaped from a life too harsh to live.....and then there is the story of my other cousin...from another kind of home....the richness in his life came from the love and devotion of his kind mother.....My cousin John Turturro grew up to follow his dreams...live his passion, and express himself as a gifted actor...both cousins came from modest homes.....the difference was in the way they were loved....When we say "we love", we must really look into the eyes and hearts we hold so dear.....or they may not see and feel it...and we also must remember to give ourselves that love as well....we come into this world alone...we leave alone....and if you love yourself...really love yourself...you are never without a friend....I try to show my students this each and every day...life is a gift....Your song is very moving...whatever you were thinking...Whoever or whatever may have affected your life.........has added another jewel in the heart of man who composes such exquisite music...Thanks for sharing with the world that very human creative part of you.............Have a gorgeous day!............... .illuminata .......xxxooo.......................................... Hey Satchland,

Satriella I am excited for you!!...it is June and I can feel your excitement all the way here in NYC....these are the memories that make life sooo enjoyable...so nice to hear your joy....Also saw your lovely picture of Kayla...very cool...You inspired me to do more art with my students...I am presently teaching precious first graders... I teach them things that will inspire them...maybe above what is typical...we worked with Vincent vanGogh, Paul Klee, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Claude Monet this week....Let me tell you, they just love it!!...You may enjoy reading about Paul Klee, he inspires the individual spirit...in an uplifting way....Picture this Sandy...the kids doing art while listening to Joe....they are loving his music!!....They ask me every day to put on one of his CDs...BTW..Any art tips you can suggest for the little ones will be very much appreciated....

Kayla thanks for asking for guitar tips from the Satchland community...the tips are helping me too!!!

Satchland....QUESTION for ya....this is a whole new world to me...Just wondering what you all thought were the 10 top guitar songs of all time??....I just recently discovered Joe, Vai, and Thal....duh!!!...hey better late than never...but I am loving my new education....going all the way back to Robert Johnson....What a beautiful instrument!!....my grandpa played the mandolin, so maybe there is some talent in my genes....One of my "new" favorite songs is Jimi's "VooDoo Child."..double duh!!! Well would love insight from any of the talented guitarists in Satchland..Hey Joe, do you have any thoughts on the subject????? Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee illuminataxxxooo

Hi Ovation, Stevee T....everyone out there in Satchland,

Thanks Ovation!!! Went to the show!!...Mike is brilliant!!...Bryan was great too!! Sorry if my review is that of a novice...but it is real and true. The music was so clean, crystal clear...his ability was amazing!!....and having Bryan with him was a perfect fit. Mike is so gifted it is almost daunting for a new comer like me to watch....They both enjoyed playing together...spoke to the audience..they asked for requests...the crowd knew all his material...and they had great looking guitars lol...They have a new CD...The room (Coda) is really nice, very cozy and welcoming...the crowd, all fans of Mike...and many Zappa fans and Vai fans....in fact Mike asked who was going to the Zappa does Zappa concert this month...(Btw..I tried to get tickets but sold out)...Steve Vai will be performing too!!!!!!! That's at the Beacon in NYC...

Well...that's it...thanks all for contributing to my "education"....this is a special time in my life....("walked" away from a terrible car accident with a different "lens" on living)... this is my own personal Renaissance..learning the guitar, dancing, writing..and truly living!!.....and all of you are adding jewels to a treasure.. which is now my life...Have a magnificent Sunday!!!

Oh, and Joe...as I am listening to more and more of your music...I am just so incredibly impressed!!!!....simply stunningly beautiful...your music reaches the hearts, minds and souls of people throughout the world....you must have been touched by an angel....... illuminataxxxooo

Hey Satchland,

Satriella...I am counting the days with you...imagine your enthusiasm is traveling the world.... your exuberance is contagious..my little munchkins do play the air guitar...it is very cute...the class age is about 7 years old... My students listen to Joe of course, now that I have discovered him!!! But they also enjoy other genres.... John Coltrane, Al Green, The Beatles, Frank Sinatra...had them listening to British Blues today...amazing stuff...Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton...etc....Satriella used your advice with art today...we were doing da Vinci...so they worked on portraits....and inventions too..but when they did the portraits I told them to draw what they actually saw not what they thought things looked like...thanks...oh btw I told them an artist from England them sent me this lesson........that's you!

Thanks all for the great links....the sharing on this site is just very very enjoyable.....Ovation still can't believe a guy on the other side of the world shared info that sent me to a gig in NYC...what a great world!!! Thanks for sharing your mind with us!!

Congratulations Cheese...to you and your son....I could picture your son with his guitar...and so proud of himself with his educational accomplishment.....Great job!

AND Ms. Kayla...your posting about your brother, and the attitude in your family....hit me where I live....when I was born my dad told my mom that she "goofed" because I was a GIRL........may I say to you that you must never give up...I was the first person in my family to graduate college...and I now have 3 college degrees...Did it with very little encouragement....but not having support CAN HURT YOUR HEART....AND ALTER YOUR JOURNEY..I tell my son and my daughter to follow their dreams, I encourage my students as well, year after year...believe in yourself....I just started to play the guitar....and discovering things I didn't perceive as mine to acquire... And Ms. Kayla...this is for you...the world is yours grab it!!! Don't let any one ever stop you...find your bliss...live your life....fully....it took a car accident....for me to really see that this is it....you live now!!! I am so enjoying the "music" now.....when I was a kid so many of the boys played guitar, drums, keyboards...and joined bands...were free to create and find themselves etc...nice cool guys..very talented....the girls weren't encouraged in this way...but it was actually my brother's best friend who looked for me many years later....and sent me a beautiful acoustic guitar....shout out to my best friend....Joey, a truly gifted musician and a man with a poet's heart....wouldn't ya know it...I was his muse....he opened this beautiful musical world to me.......................... keep playing Kayla....and I hope there is some guitarist out there who can send you a most beautiful guitar....mine has pretty butterflies embedded in it...signifies my metamorphosis.....one day lovely lady...you will walk in a store....and buy yourself the guitar of your dreams...I guarantee it!!...you have what it takes....individuality, courage, and spirit....I think Mr. Satriani can see that too...right Joe???................ Have a beautiful day all...............illuminataxxxooo

Hi Everybody!

Joe, I just got back from Harvard University....Had an amazing opportunity to be part of a summer institute....the focus was understanding understanding....Educators from 41 countries..just exquisite!!!!!!...During one of the discussions I mentioned you....we were talking about competition....and assessment...I mentioned your name to the group and something you had said about enjoying playing with other brilliant guitarists..that you looked forward to the experience... it was positive and enjoyable...of course I am paraphrasing....And I posed the question...Wouldn't it be wonderful if in our schools competition could be edifying, thus contributing to positive growth and human connections more often? They all liked the example and agreed.. I think they will go home and "chew on that idea"....oh and happy belated birthday....wishing you a year in which more of your dreams come true....as you know with fulfulling dreams comes responsibilities...thanks for living in such a "bright" way...your example gives others the courage to live up to their potentials as well.....

Well take care all............................................illuminata

Hi Joe....Hi everyone out there in Satchland...hope all is well!

Joe back to school with the kids...my classroom once again is filled with learning, laughter and gorgeous music.......last year the school newspaper published our poetry project and explained it was "Joe Satriani" inspired....now this new group of first graders is getting to know you too....one of the school psychologists walked in yesterday as they were creating Picasso art.....with your music dancing in the air....his comment..." I wish I was in this class!"....exquisite to see how these young minds are moved by beautiful music....I set up a special music center this year and feel it will be very positive....I am also meeting with the Director of Education at The Metropolitan Museum of Art this week to brainstorm....connecting the Arts to education....continuing to use the Arts as entry points into the other disciplines....have been busy connecting what I do to the great research coming out of Harvard's "Project Zero" ...spent some time there this summer....great stuff Joe...You would love the ""Artful Thinking" research being done there, "The Theory of Multiple Intelligences",...Oh and "Teaching for Understanding"...the Project Zero research is led by Howard Gardner, Steve Seidel and Dave Perkins...just brilliant!!!......well that is it for now........

Hey Satchland musicians, artists, writers, dancers, thinkers....Keep on creating and making this world what it should be...a place where beauty abounds...you all inspire me!

Oh...going to see Carlos Santana tonight... should be fabulous!!...saw Daltry and Townsend this week...fun stuff...........take care all...

Hi Joe!!

Just got the update about your NYC gig...so excited...I just got my tickets!!! My students are still loving you, and every year I introduce more elementary school kids to your brilliance. I just got back from Harvard again...studying leadership skills....of course over and over again there were discussions about what is "intelligence"...and how to include all kids and embrace them. I am certainly getting their attention with your music and your story...On a sad note, my mom recently passed away...she had a stroke which proved fatal...I flew out to California to be with her during her last 3 days of life...she was listening to music through "You Tube" in her final hours...her favorite music reached her through this technology...pretty amazing..and peaceful...............Btw also going to see Vai soon...sharing all of my new found musical culture with my son...he started taking guitar lessons with a guy from Carle Place....I think that is a good sign..........see ya soon

Hi Satchland...miss you all...wishing you a beautiful summer....going to see Joe tomorrow in New York City...of course anticipating another wonderful and memorable performance....it's the Anniversary party for Surfin with the Alien...very cool...

Hey Joe you wrote you are also taking fan favorites from other work..mine is Ten Words!!...would be cool if you dedicate that song to the teachers of New York City...I know the song's connection to 911....and I being a city teacher remember how all the teachers in NYC stayed with their children calmly and lovingly that day.....while our own families were somewhere else...I was so impressed by the dedication of the NYC teachers, but not surprised...I know you do great things for education, so I would really smile if you did this dedication.......

See ya tomorrow,

Christine (illuminata)
