Wow.... a fairly eventful day!
1. Light Years Away
2. Received our tickets for the Chicago show in the mail!
3. Approved day off at work for day after concert to recover
I like the fullness Mike's keys bring to this chapter of Joe.
The anticipation continues to build...

Joe Satriani amPlug headphone amp!
sweet!
I've thought of picking one of the other versions up before, but NOW is the time. (So as long as Joe doesn't end up endorsing itch cream or something of that nature, right?)
...seriously though, sounds good and will be cool to have around
Deluxe Edition BSAWW will be our backup copy :) Glad we finally have a Best Buy

Ya know, should you ever have the need to run from the cops... you might not fare too bad!! hehe j/k
Sounds like you have been BUSY.
How was the Dave Weiner show at Sweetwater? I would have liked to have seen that one.

Received my VOX JS ICE 9 overdrive pedal yesterday!
So far I am very happy with it. Been doing back to back comparisons with it and my Satchurator pedal... obviously the Ice 9 has more boost/punch and is definitely a warmer pedal. I've favored the vintage setting over the modern to this point. The Satchurator provides much more bite and edge. Personally I think either with or without the "more" switch engaged and 300ms of delay sounds pretty nice. (When the mood calls for it, I'm also running a 535Q wah, Digitech Whammy, in front of a JSX 212, usually playing my JS1000)
edit - having both the Ice 9 and the Satchurator is my preference as opposed to having to choose between the two!

Regarding Mike Portnoy leaving Dream Theater (who I haven't listened to in a LONG time) - any thoughts about maybe how Mark Zonder (ex Fates Warning drummer) would fit in?
http://www.markzonder.com/
I actually preferred Fates Warning over Dream Theater in the early 90s... especially with the album Parallels. I thought Ray Alder was a better singer than James LaBrie. Of course I always thought highly of Petrucci.

Alan, yeah I may be a struggling Satchaholic... thanks for noticing :)
I was lacking a proper OD pedal anyways, so I thought this would be a fair bet. If I end up coming across something I like better,my son would probably use the Ice 9. Have I mentioned how happy I am that Joe is the hardest working man in showbiz? Busy, busy, busy! Hope all you other T2J peeps are doing well. Soon to be the weekend!

scubadaz thanks for the link to the music radar article (Joe's top 10 Hendrix songs) - I find most of them right on the money, though I'd push All Along the Watchtower a bit higher than #7. Machine Gun & Voodoo Child absolutely belong.
Phydeaux_3 appreciate the heads up on the new Death Angel album. I only have Act III (back from '90) but always enjoy listening to it. Stagnant (especially the intro!), Seemingly Endless Time, and A Room With a View are my favorites on that one, but the whole work is solid.

Just finished listening to the Dream Song excerpt and while not quite as quickly hooked as I was on Light Years Away & God Is Crying, the way this song/exerpt builds and develops in complexity, depth, and melodic direction will make for a great road trip soundtrack. I like the change at the 1:30 mark in the sample.
Thanks for the post, Pip!

scubadaz - nice post! Great to hear Dream Song in full. Lots of ear candy.
Now listening to Joe talk about a small gig where there was not much response from the crowd...
JOE: "I kid you not, I don't think there were more than six people that actually came up to the front of the stage to go 'Yay Joe!' ya know?"
hilarious to hear him talk about it & can't help but shake my head.... hehe

hybes - if you are referring to the mp3 download that comes with the preorder CD purchase, the email I received was titled "Your Free Joe Satriani Download is Ready!" and the link was embedded directly in the body of the email and NOT a Word document.... I do not recall a EULA of any sort either.
I'd tread lightly my friend, it sounds like you're dealing with spam in the very least - if not something with more ill-intentions

Today's 80's Joe flashback:
I posted this back on 8/22.... was finally was able to track the movie down on Netflix! If you have an account, check out the 1988 movie "It Takes Two" (available to stream) and fast forward to about the 32 minute mark to hear "Crushing Day" - I knew I wasn't crazy (it's only been 22 years since I saw that movie, but remembered hearing that song)
Crushing Day starts, and the main character says during his first drive of his new sports car "...first thing on the agenda is to turn up the music so loud, you spontaneously bear child, ha!" The stereo display then shows "BRAVISSIMO!!!" and Joe's masterpiece kicks in even louder
INDEED =)
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Wasn't there a scene in an old 80s film
"It Takes Two" that had Crushing Day playing as the main character takes a Lamborghini-esque car for a test drive?

BCC sounds pretty decent from the samples. I never heard Glenn Hughes w/ Sabbath, but can see him fitting in with what they were at that point in time (knowing how The Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, and Tyr sounded with Tony Martin)

webmaster Jon Thanks for putting the podcasts/webisode up!
Austin, thanks for the info on the first track playing during the webisode.

1. Wormhole Wizards
2. God Is Crying
3. Light Years Away
4. Dream Song
5. Premonition
edit - included Dream Song

Dream Song podcast = red JS2400 @ 1:33 & 1:53 mark
This song comes across to me as having a similar feel to Flying in a Blue Dream... funny I hadn't even paid attention to the similarities in the two song's titles until I was typing it out! hehe -just gives me that same kinda feeling.
Grant, good luck on the run!! I wanted to get to Sweetwater for the Taylor event, and to maybe have Bob Taylor sign my 214CE but it was just too much of a drive and not enough hours in the day. Of course if Joe is there again, then well, ya know....

BobCliffe - congrats on the JSX mini-colossal! My 7 yr old son has one as well. When I've used it I have found it to be very warm sounding with vintage overtones. I usually leave the power sponge below 50% so we can crank the volume up to get a bit more bite/gain. Since the mini is dirtier than the standard JSX, you may want to take the power sponge somewhere between 50-100% and not push the volume knob on the amp as high. If you aren't getting the bass you want out of it, you may also try rolling back on the tone knob on your guitar. I have the Satchurator and Ice 9 but have only had the Ice 9 in front of the mini.

Austin - that show sounds like it was awesome. It's so funny Achille's Last Stand is your favorite (mine too - and such an obscure one to most people I think). Totally cool that Chad was the guy to bang that one out at the concert.
Pyrrhic Victoria is an interesting one...
I'm still counting down the days until the Wormhole Wizards podcast. I keep playing the first half of webisode #1 to hear it playing in the background! That tune is going to be BADA$$.
