Have any of the guitarists in here tried writing with, freestyling with or just generally messing with the Hungarian minor scale????? Just curious 'cos I've experimenting with it recently and had some interesting results.....

PhrygDom- I agree with you dude.... sound like yourself. Be yourself. Play like an individual.. trying to learn someone elses music can be very useful from a learning point of view... trying to sound exactly like someone else is completely pointless.............

So I've finally done it.... last Friday I moved house from Kent to Berks [UK].. this weekend I'll be just about ready to rebuild my studio [so that I can carry on with the new album - I'm ready to start writing track 6]. So far this place seems to be a pretty nice place to be.. # : )

death cube k- I'm still recording the 'sketches' and I've completed 5 so far. This takes me to around 42 minutes so I have around 20 more minutes to go. The writing has been interrupted because I've only just moved house and I've just found out that I'm doing a mini tour of Europe [early September]. This means that I have to learn 2 hours of music [which has come at the wrong time for me because I want to complete my own stuff]. Listening back to what's been done so far.... The Rape of the Sabine Women is the weakest track IMHO [and that cant be a bad thing].... Never before have I enjoyed writing so much.. this project has been amazing to work on. The latest track is called Artaud: The Edge of Insanity... and the track is mental.. when I've completed the writing, I still have to take it to a nice studio and get it all re-recorded nicely... It looks like I'm going to finish this much later than I originally hoped... However, I think that it will be worth it. MAK, YODA a few others have heard some of the sketches that are not in the IUMA site and their feedback has been pretty good so far.. This encourages me that I'm am 'on to something' with this..... Thanx for taking an interest.. with any luck I've have it completed pretty soon.

Shell- I've got no idea what's happened to VBIL/Avarice..he used to mail me a great deal.... he appears to have vanished.. I've no idea why... I stopped coming here for a while because I'm just very busy right now... house move, prepping for tour, my own album etc and also because I thought that this site was becoming a little bit cr@p - and having just read though several dozen posts that result in a p1ss1ng contest about the frequency responce of the human ear I guess I was right. I spend much more time in the JP site these days... it's full of musicians [many of which are very good and knowledgable] and I can chat with these guys, exchange ideas etc.. very interesting place, full of great people and much nicer laid out than this site. But Shell... don't think you've got rid of me altogether, always look over your shoulder... tee hee...

Yoda - the white RG you're talking about... is that the one you braught with you when we jammed togther a few months ago???? if so.. I thought it really was a very very nice guitar... It looks like a very early model so appart from your pickup modifications.. I'd say it is a standard 570... [they used to make them really nice in the ealry days] A bud of mine has an early RG570 - edge bridge, PAF PRO's and a single in neon pink, yellow and green. It's white with a black scratch plate... It really does look like a fore-runner to the JEM series... superb machine Also... my studio at home is now up and running.. I just need to spend a few more weeks learning the set for the tour. So as soon as I'm comfortable with the set [and can turn down the level of effort required to learn it] then I'll give you a shout and you can come around for a good ol' tear up...

RG abuse.... yeah.....

All those going to the Bush on Thursday...... who fancies meeting up in the 'Walkabout' before the gig for a beer and to say hi [in the flesh] etc........

Shell / Yoda... If I don't see you in the Walkabout first.. maybe we'll cross paths in the venues.....

Yoda - I was in the Walkabout from 6:30 to 8:30 which is why we didn't get to meet up again.... I was in the Bush for the last 10 mins of the support gig and called your mobe at the interval [although I know the signal is poor around that area].... Shame we didn't get to meet up... not to worry, we'll be having a jam session again pretty soon I'm sure....[especially as Guildford is only a 45 min drive away..]. I did get to bump into Herman [from Dragon Heart] and Iggy... I played Jemfest with those two and we've not seen each other for some time so we hit the bar..... cool.... Iggy and I will be playing Jemfest UK again this October... should be fun..

Shell - it was real nice to bump into you [even if it was only brief]. I'm sure we'll crash into each other again pretty soon....

JSC1 - dude... the video files didn't show up... maybe try sending again.... let me know if you get difficulty sending it, and mabe we'll figure out another way....

PeteM - I'm glad to know that someone else is having trouble with IUMA uploading and downloading... I thought I was being victimised by a server.....

All the dudes and dudettes from the Bush..... My 'unmissable' Dream Theatre T-shirt in yellow and red tye-dye was exactly the same [but with different logo of course] as the Satch T-shirt with the Surfing Alien on the front... It looks as though DT and Satch use the same merchendising manufacturer.. So, rather than standing out in the crowd [and being easy for folks to find]... I blended in... lol...

Yoda - you're right about the gig.... I don't ever see the point of waiting in line for hours.... I walked right into the venue [no queue at all] and right to the bar on the left hand side of the stage [not that far from the front]. I had a great view and easy access to brain relaxants. The only time I really like to get right in the with the crowd is in the mosh pit [great fun].... and there's not much of that at Satch gigs... At a Satch gig I only need a reasonable view, a bar close by and then I can chill and enjoy.... happy as a shig in pit....lol

I had my first rehearsal with the David Cross band on Saturday in a studio in Worthing... and on the way I drove right past the Accadamy in Guildford. It's a pretty easy drive from there to my place..... On another note.. David has got me to re-arrange 21st Century Schitzoid Man for the tour to make it sound a little more modern [IMO this is one of Robert Fripp's best songs - great opening riff and a mental phrasing towards the end].. I started messing with it last night and it sounds real cool.. this is a fun job..... lol...

I guess you're right about the crap thing.... 'text' has no body language or inflection.. this makes things dangerously easy to misunderstand...... which is most likely why chat rooms are prone to serious flaming sessions between folks that would never dream of fighting face to face.

JSC1 - dude, that's the correct addy... let's try again .. # : )

PhrygDom - I saw the Satch, Roth, Schenker gig in the Manchester Appolo.. Roth was tremendous and I was quite dissapointed with Schenker [because I'm a big UFO / MSG fan] because he don't seem to have the spark he once had.. Great night as I recall..

On the Malmsteen thing... putting the personality to one side, you cannot deny that he is a tremendous player and has been a major influence in the evolution of modern guitar technique. Love him or hate him, he should still be respected for his huge impact and input over the years. I'm sure that in years to come he would [and should] be thought of in the same way as all of the great players that really shook things up to such a degree that resulted huge leaps in both technique and technology.. along with ground breaking legends that were the 'cutting edge' rock players of their day such as Hendrix, Blackmore, Page, Van Halen, Rhodes, Vai.. All of these guys have played key rolls to influence the way that rock guitar is played today..

Iambic - I use Ernie Ball: Hybrid 9's on all of my 6 string guitars.. I have no tuning problems, they all play fine. My bridges are well set up and maintained... I am also quite an abuser of the whammy bar too.... 'Balance' is down to the string guage vs spring configuration... so if you made a change to your guage you'll have to adjust the springs... if the change is great then you'll have to add springs [which loses the 'whippy' feeling]..
