Ovation: don't you dare audition for Snuffy. (Snuffle-upagus) Here is something I saw on TV the other day (a comedy called CNNNN) NEWSFLASH: Snuffleupagus despairs he'll never find Miss Right...

Can't remember if this was before or after "classroom terrorist throws paper plane into building" "teenager happy" "anti-Jewish demonstrations labelled anti-Semitic" "doormat sick of being treated like a woman" and all the others I've forgotten...

if you're interested, try CNNNN and watch the newsbar, but don't get up too quickly, you might get motion sickness! PS it's Australian, so you may not get all of the jokes.

I'd like to add my own to that list:

...Guitar player compares Steve Vai to Joe Satriani...

Ever noticed that? It's a rare occurrence...

Stu Clone: that's pretty cool, you do resemble Stu a bit. What next? Do I have to become a Jeff Clone? I'd have to shorten my sideburns (a long way) and remove the bush under my chin...reduce it back to a goatee! (Just to clarify, my sideburns do not join up with my beardesque forest...there is 1/2 a razor width above the bottom of my cheekbone of bare skin (not right now, but when I shave it will) at the closest point. Also would have to start cutting my hair again. Basically last time it was cut was just before Christmas, and it was like Matt's in that photo except mostly a few cm shorter. Now it looks like Steve Vai's hair on this pic or on this pic.

Yikes. I could be a SyVy Clone!

njbeast: I'm pretty sure it's from the LISF DVD and not the TM recording. If you listen to the part when it fades out, I think you'll realise it's on LISF CD & DVD but not TM. It doesn't really make any sense to use a sound clip for a DVD menu from a previous release when the same song is on it.

Who was it that promised to use a cattle prod on any "Hey Joe" quoters? Was it you Clarky? I seem to recall the prod being potentially placed somewhere unsavoury...not that I condone this kind of behaviour...

Phrygian Dominant: funny you should say that, the US linked the Bali incident to Al Quaida (sp?) thus confessing that they haven't finished that battle yet, and so a war against Iraq would be rediculous to start right now.

It could have been Indonesians having a go at the Aussies in Bali (popular tourist spot for us) for helping the independence of East Timor. Who knows.

Sharon: Wasn't it "The World And Arthur Brown" or something like that? He had that fire song hit in the 60s. "Fiyah! To burn you..." The film clip to that was so crazy for that era. Something you're used to these days from heavy bands. SOME ADVICE: wear earplugs at all gigs. Carry them with you, and wear them unless it's something soft like smooth jazz. I have my earplugs on my keyring at all times.

Stu Hacking: that bass player, isn't his name Moo?

Clarky/Ovation: sorry about that, I looked back through the posts and it was Gutterboy that mentioned it.

19/06/02 ----PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT----

From now on, ayone who is observed entering the T2J forum and posting the question, "Hey Joe, where you goin' with that gun in your hand?" or any similar variant will be summarily sodomized with a cattle prod. You have been warned. Corny humor will not be tolerated here.

Hey Clarky can I suggest for your song with lyrics you didn't want to sing do a Steve Vai P&W deal and write the words in the sleeve of the disc in italics.

Phrygian Dominant: I think the reason people object to your swearing is because it's often directed at people as opposed to Joe's talent. Not that I care which is which, just that strong language can be a little unnecessary when you're disagreeing with someone or using it frequently.

Yeah I think I recall something about Elpp's banning thing. I bags you to find this one!!! Come back in a couple of weeks when you've dug it out!

Anyone know what happened to Xrob? Did he lose his Satchvation?

Phrygian Dominant: sorry if it came over like that! I never said anything was okay or not, I said maybe (I think I said "maybe" * I certainly meant maybe) some people pick up on it because of that. I don't mean to say saying Joe is "fucking awesome" doesn't twig any reaction either however with some people it doesn't. Seriously, how many times have people said "tsk tsk tsk, language" to those kind of posts? I haven't ever seen any. It's rare that a reaction like what you received from that post would be given to a post with lower frequency of "swearing"...and anyhoo I've lost my train of thought!!! I think you understand what I mean. I'd say too that most of the time it's "non-regulars" (if I can say that) that tend to use such colourful language.

I did observe however that you were directing it in frustration/anger at/in regard to particular people.

As has been said many times before (and recently by Clarky) you can't hear my tone of voice, or see my facial expressions, or watch my gesticulations so it's easy to get the wrong message. Sorry bud!

(PS, not sure if you may have been confused, but only the first paragraph of that earlier message was directed to you, if that makes any difference)

* edit: I didn't say maybe...

To sum up my previous post:

it was supposed to be an observation, not a condemnation.

Who asked? Paul Huxley? I first joined when I found the site by accident in 1998/9 during the Crystal Planet appearance with the Time Machine background for the T2J (or whatever it was called). Then I read the G3 and CP sleeves and realised they had advertised the site. I became a regular around March 2000 but only a poster-of-the-every-other-day-variety since this Autumn (your Spring). I was introduced to Satch (music, not in person) in 1997, so I'm a relatively fresh fan!

Boice: That Stu "credit" was on a re-issue or different edition of Flex-Able, and not on the original (the one I was able to find) so I have no idea what this contribution sounds like. Do I want to? Dunno.

Invigor: If you send me a legit CD of The Ultra Zone that works perfectly you can be my friend forever. I still can't find it anywhere. (Nobody say get it off the internet. I have no credit card or anything.)

Of course anyone who wants to pay my way to a Satch concert will be on my Honours List...

YIKES!!! LOOK AT THE TIME!!! I HAVE TO BE ELSEWHERE!!!

SOTD (Mon. 21st): anything off 1x1 by Foo Fighters. Bought it today. (Haven't watched the bonus DVD yet.)

re the "come to Australia" deal:

Joe won't come here for promo reasons. "What do you mean by that?" In a local guitar magazine earlier this year Steve Vai was interviewed and asked about whether he would be touring Australia again soon. It was a while ago so I can't quote it verbatim but he said along the lines of the following:

Australia is a great country, with great people, and is great to play in -- however the only way to get any publicity in Oz is either to be a massive chart hit in US/Europe and get flogged on the radio, or get played on alternative radio or Triple J...and everyone knows (Steve Vai's) stuff will never get any airplay here.

In regard to this topic he used very "aggressive" language thus showing how very strongly he felt.

Another factor in this is that Australia is a very vast country, and even if Joe played a show in Sydney and Melbourne (in order to ensure good attendance), most of the country would still be nowhere near the show. I'll give you a US equivalent: Joe plays in LA and SF as his national tour. It's crazy.

A year ago I made a cassette for driving in my car (don't have disc or decent system in there yet...) it had (I'll try to remember...my tape player has been stuffed for months)

driving at night
speed of light
power cosmic 2000 (1&2)
time
a train of angels
crushing day
lords of karma (nearly had an accident playing air drums once - at the bit with the "cymbal roll")
circles
cool #9
hordes of locusts
memories

plus other stuff I can't remember right now. I think there were 9 tracks on each side. (Power Cosmic 2000 2 finished about 5 seconds before the end of the side! Perfect timing!)

Just because I bet everyone has forgotten: JBlaze for Joe's-guitar-looker-afterer-guy!!!

Yesterday I mentioned the tape I had for in the car, but I got one wrong. There was no "hordes of locusts". There was however the following that I forgot:

why
the mystical potato head groove thing
luminous flesh giants
flavour crystal 7 (from additional creations)
echo (from time machine)
devil's slide

also good driving songs.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Stupid US only competitions. They are more common than commonsense, yet they appear on sites you would think were international, and nowhere on that stupid page did it say US only.

What a crock.

At least the setlist competition was international. Pity I didn't win it though...

Later all...BEN

PS I want bootlegs!!! I have no bootlegs...I can't get any bootlegs!!!

I know myself that any performer would want a recording of all his gigs, it's just the legal bums that complain about the bootlegs.

Mike Portnoy's drum kit?!? Yikes. That's a dream. Nothing compared to Alex Van Halen though. Check out his setup at www.zildjian.com (I'll find the actual link later) btw it's just a representation, not a photo. Man, my kit only has 5 drums.

And yes, Austin a rim shot is actually a type of snare hit. Same as saying a "hammer-on" or "strum" or something like that. It makes a cracking sound, which I prefer. I always play a rimshot for non-mellow timing. (Rolls are a bit trickier to rimshot all the time.) Means your sticks break way more often...

Yeah, okay so yet again people keep answering questions before I got to them. I back up Clarky's comments. What Paul Huxley is talking about is what tends to get called a "click" really tech isn't it! Clarky called it side sticking or something. I don't do them that way either, when I do a click I hold the stick the other way around, so that the tip is over the edge and the bottom is on the snare head. Instead of having the stick go over the bottom edge of the snare it goes over the side. These "clicks" are used for soft stuff common in jazz and contemporary stuff. Dammit Clarky I was going to mention the flam.

Okay, I feel really dumb, I've been reading one-liners all day and I get in here and 2 people reply to my comments and I don't *get* either of them...maybe if I think about it I will eventually...

JBlaze: nah, I call the shots...

Clarky: starter's orders? hmmm

Avarice: 11 necks? Try 12 necks. One for each note. Oh, better make that 13, so you can have Bb & A#...(they are not the same note)...

heh heh heh.

Gartriani: there's a band from Sweden called Blindside. They just released a new album. Sort of a cross between modern metal (not nu metal) modern melodic rock. Between P.O.D., Foo Fighters and Tool. Brilliant time-signature changes.

McDave: Which reminds me, yesterday I had this dream that someone said to Joe to only play songs in common time (fourfour - how do I represent that in here?) because you can't STUUU in common time! What the heck? Ah well no more Flavour Crystal 7, Echo, Trundrumbalind, Secret Prayer, New Last Jam, The Journey or countless 3/4 6/8 etc slow acoustics...
