My favourite part of dumb and Dumber was at the start when he goes: "Oh Austria! Well then, G'day mate! Let's put another shrimp on the barbie!"

Incidentally no-one puts shrimps on the barbie in Australia. Prawns however...I've never tried.

Crippler: (re Time Machine) yep. That's exactly it. However I did like the CD even though it's obviously 2nd rate Satch.

Austin: back in the days I loved Drop Dead Fred...then a while later I watched it again and realised how crap it was. Funny, but really poor.

Time Machine!!! But make sure the drums sound like how Jeff plays Satch Boogie in the finger tapping bit (slower of course). That's what makes the song I reckon. (Okay so I'm biased...)

Now my turn to sound like a barnyard animal: what about the movie "Young Einstein" with Yahoo Serious? That was hilarious. Especially the bit where he comes in the window at Marie Curie's house and her dad says:

"who is zis barbarian?" in a French accent.

"I'm from Tasmania!" in the worst Australian accent ever.

Heh heh. Makes me proud to be Tasmanian, even though he was actually extracting the urine out of us...

later, BEN...oink oink oink

Austin: I'd rather Empty Garbage Before Dad Flips thankyou...

So I was "expelled" from the worship group ( after being told that you couldn't practice Buddhism and be a "leader of Christian worship".).... What a pity church people are so narrow minded! - umm, Shell, you've hanged yourself with your own words...you can't be Christian AND Buddhist. They are mutually exclusive. It's like voting for Labour AND Cons. (I assume you're English?) How can you "have no other god but Me" and be a practicing buddhist too? How can you be alive AND dead at the same time?

AT LAST!!! you ripper! A Vai update at last. Cool.

It looks like Power Cosmic and Bells of Lal are both still waaay behind TIME MACHINE!!!!! but who knows...

post 2 coming up...is this wrong? should I put it all in one? but if I split them up, there will be less stuff on each page, instead of 25 3-screen posts there'd be 25 3-line posts...of course all this extra banter is more than making up for it...

Looks like all the Daves are here...okay two of them...hi, Daves! And what else? We have a Martina too! Hi Martina!

EDIT and look! Now there's a Matt! Hi Matt!

Well look it's just all happening. There are a few people here, and they're ALL posting messages! Well bugger-me-dumplings it doesn't get any better.

Hi Joe, if you're reading this! I hope your tour goes well...and yes, I've forgotten an awful lot of theory too, so maybe I'll be as brilliant as you pretty soon...

Here's a funny story: last night going through some sheet music all the "musicians" (non-drummers don't regard drummers as musicians) were all struggling with a bridge into a key change. Why? because they were playing the 1,2,3 time bar as well as the 4th time bar the 4th time through. Ha ha ha. When I showed them they were pretty embarassed. Heh heh heh...

O'Dave: let's set up a page on here to submit ideas for your band name...here's my suggestion: "Hydraulic Inferno" I wanted to use it myself as an album name but if you want it, you've got first dibs!

njbeast: your paints? That's not regular, man.

Silmarien: don't tell me Dragonchild has been passing out again...too much pool maybe, ha!

JoeyG: welcome...here is just a suggestion: find yourself a guitar and someone you know that can play it. After that it's all up to you.

Flipping Dominant: that's okay. Lots of drummers know very little about music. Some know as much as the others. Drummer jokes are usually not that witty, mainly if you think calling someone stupid is funny, then there is your punchline. I don't mind having a laugh at my own expense, if it's funny. I only ever heard one good guitarist joke: "How do you stop a guitarist from playing? Put music in front of him." It's only funny because it's true...I've seen it a hundred times. One good thing about being the butt of all humour (or even stick) from bands is the attention. Especially in big bands. No-one notices the guy way up the back, until someone cracks a "joke" about you and you do the "ba-doom ching"...

EDIT not that I'm attention seeking...it's just cool to get some for nothing

Hey Joe, I absolutely love NOTE album. It's so raw (for 80s I mean)...that first song, was Jeff still asleep when he recorded the drums? Aren't you glad you don't have that recording studio pressure anymore? The comfort of your own place would be so much easier to work with than precious seconds in a studio with blood all over the tape...Joe Satriani for G3...JBlaze for Joe's Guitar Guard...

Phrygian Dominant: yeah a friend of mine who shares some drum duties with me has little theoretical knowledge or speed etc yet has so much feel it's amazing. Whatever he touches turns to gold. Music is so strong inside him, it's bursting out whatever he plays. (Except swing and jazz.) He picks up a guitar and plays the most amazing drop d melodies (they ARE impressive), then pulls out an amazing "loop" on the drums. He's not strong in technique, it's finesse that makes him look and sound so awesome. It's as though he's made it to the point where he and the instrument (whatever it is) are as one...whoops I rave on easily...

Banana Mango for champ...at least that has a decent drum track (2nd one obviously...) plus I don't think much about Bells. I suppose it's just Satch going off over a 1 bar repeated thingy. True he goes VERY off (new grammatical no-no!) but there's no melody, no form, only a rhythm with chops over the top. Albeit good chops. 'nana has the best Part1, the bridge just makes me so content...I know it's not in there, but I reckon Power Cosmic 2000 beats them all.

Bells 2 - Forgotten 2 - Banana 4

Hey Joe! nice shorts! Heh heh heh! Hoe the heck could you play guitar in a jacket that big and floppy?

I've seen a Death Cube K CD in a second-hand shop. Didn't realise it was a Buckethead anagram!

nah, Michael Jackson's balcony suspended baby for G3...

You ripper on the Banana Mango!

I vote for Trundrumbalind!!! 8-7 (I think you'll find someone cheated and added 2 for FC7...)

(although I prefer Echo a thousand times above all the other non-common time songs)

Phrygging Doormat: (ala Dr Evil: open the frigging door...or was it fricking?) He's not going anywhere without my knowing, thankhim very much. His band are still up-and-coming (both guitarists are still at college) but they've started recording at a friend's studio set-up. Give them a few years and they'll be well known.

I agree, multiples of three aren't really odd timing. Maybe for rock music they are. It's not common time however...

Party in Simon's Pants!!! Ha ha ha...oink oink oink

R6R: Equestrian / a little hoarse was that pun intended?

Ovation: you mean lol, lol, semilol, lol, lol, lol, semilol?

Phrygian: at least they aren't calling you Christopher Reeve...oh dear...that might have been in bad taste...

Ice-9 Cool-6 WHAT IS THE DEAL?!? "Cool" is the coolest! After all, I can actually play the riff! Never mind.

Hey everyone, just changed my nickname to "Artanis I" from "For Adun"

Don't worry, I will try not to change my personality!!!

Incidentally, for those interested, it's an anagram...you work it out. Artanis is a guy off StarCraft..."consider it donnne" "I concur" "for Aiur" etc.

Whammy debate: in the Australian Macquarie dictionary (not entirely scholarly, but the best we have) it mentions a "vibrato arm" part for electric guitar, which looked to me to fit the description of "whammy bar". It refers to tremolo as causing sound to vary in intensity. I'd always called it tremolo arm. Interesting.

Silmarien: why did you change your nickname? j/k. I think mainly because I knew some people pronounced it phonetically instead of properly and also because of the anagram thing that popped up a while ago. I have used 5-6 different names here in the last 2 years or so...

Ovation: Smegging hell!!! Now that is insane...I never noticed! (Sinatra) Damn now I feel less than an ace detective...

Phrygian Dominant: 400!!! Man, you've been a bit of a "lead-finger" lately!!! (To eliminate confusion, think "lead-foot" and then 400...)

No contest. Tears in the Rain by a longshot. (Of course I would pick "Day at the Beach...Ancient Sun" way over the others.) Tears-14 Baroque-10

PS far out, I typed that before I watched the scores go...yikes. Massive comeback by tears! Crippler: I noticed that too...

Apart from Bells of Lal I've backed the winners so far...Come on Tears...

Phrygian Dominant: one band had it this way: "Everything is good for you, if it doesn't kill you" (Crowded House. Their "last hurrah" as it were.)

No, the song didn't kill the band...but it made their bestof a massive hit...(probably would've been anyway)

Rubina is my pick...R-11 RSky-10. Was actually playing overnight on repeat. One of the few Satch songs I can do that with. Very relaxing track.

Silmarien: correct, but not the one I was referring to..."Artanis I" is an anagram of Satriani...

R6R: Were you talking to me? If so...there'll be a lot more needed soon to make up for the cricket coming up...(I ask because there is someone called Sinatra but I've had that recently from a few others...)

BEN

PS I tried logging in under my old name D'Oh!

Austin: I recall not long ago you mentioning listening to EOC with earphones. Man, that was how I heard it first! Earphones plugged into the computer playing mp3s of UWSG and Borg. At the time I was really into Mystical Potato with the stereo pan bit, so it was perfect timing by Joe. You can't appreciate that music properly without concentrating your hearing totally. Of course, that was before I accidentally put my phones through the wash...only the left channel works now...however you can still use it as a mic.

Kinger: It's hard to not have heard of Crowded House in Aussie...

Silmarien: no worries, after all I don't know any Polish other than names. Then again Satriani isn't English anyway...

Matt King: Ba doom CHING!

Not really two of my faves, but I'd have to say the "tuff"ness of War pushes it over the line for me...

NOW it's War-8 Attack-4

Well I thought Hook was a good movie when I was a kid...

Austin: Joe was a backup singer. Don't know for which songs but. On the "Crowded House" album I believe.

Narface: if you pull the phone plug out partly, you are only allowing one side of the stereo connection. In other words, you are listening to only the left (I think) channel.

YaYo: defacing legal tender is a federal offence. I don't think Joe wants to be held responsible for this. After all, it's he or Jon that are going to get in trouble about it. Until they find your post and Jon gives them your details. Have a nice day.

Master Yoda: that was me who asked about the 7th stuff. Expanation satisfactory, thankyou. (That was a long time ago...)

JS Clone: read the T2J board and you will find your answer.

Ionian Dominant: I was just thinking how the word "excellent" had lost its usage frequency since the end of the 80s. Oh, it was so excellent...

I would have voted Crushing Day. I agree with whoever it was that cringes in the LISF DVD menu. I do too. Joe reckons Crushing Day sounds 80s...well...

But I vote ECHO!!! It is by far one of my all-time faves. Probably the first song I realised in 5 timing. (5:8 or 5:4 depending on how you represent it I suppose...there are 5 beats to the bar however...)

Echo-11 Jupiter-6

I guessed that SMF stood for slow MoFu, so I was pretty close!!!

How the heck can you have a conscience vote between Mystical and Surfing? While mystical was my fave for a while (I still love it) and I'm sick to death of Surfing, you can't vote for anything above Surfing. Even though I'd love to see Mystical beat it, there's no way I can vote that way.

Ethn: he always votes twice.

Assuming Clone voted oriental... Ozzimental-7 Ludicrous-1

Leanna: ouch my eyes!!! bold capitals!!! I'm blind!!! Happy birthday anyway!

Dragonchild: I would love to see Mr Bean on G3, that would be classic. Of course, Joe and Steve would be awesome...

Whoever was doing the Satch tribute: can I do the "moooo"s?

Wow what an intense weekend. I need the week to relax now...later, BEN

No, retract that. Cherry Ripe is the ultimate.

Well I don't know, because I missed the last session last night but I think if England weren't all out yesterday, they will be this morning (technically this afternoon, because it's way out west...). 3-0, that's the Ashes. Saddam I mean Nasser Hussain needs to pull his troops together...

House of Mullets-8 Brain Tempest-10 but someone please tell me how the score was 6-9 for three consecutive votes? McDave had it 5-8. Grein votes HFB(6-8), Pete Mulas MS(6-9), then Stu Clone says 6-9. Anuj says 6-9. What did those guys vote for?

PhryDom: the Christian thingy: someone asked if Joe was a Christian, again.

Silmarien: I knew what you meant! Just looked funny.

Hey, I'm also looking forward to The Two Towers, apparently it's a docco about these guys with a tow truck business...lol

Oh no, I can't believe I just said lol.

AND, The Traveller (how I spell it) is one of my faves too.

Gruskada: welcome back! Was just thinking I hadn't heard from you for a bit...two songs I would have included you didn't: echo and you're my world.

Just going to post this one more, seeing as though I've been here almost every day in the last few weeks yet only posting once at a time. I've been watching the 200 loom for soooo long I don't want to have to wait while everyone else keeps "cheating" toward 3, 4, and now even 500. So this puts me on 199. Whoopee is a word that you might be thinking. Or fantabulous. Or bugger-me-dumplings.

I think the Chemical Brothers usually only work with others from the UK. Look at the names: Gallagher (Noel I think) from Oasis, Beth Orton, some chick I forget (who has "a lot of friends...and they've got beautiful eyes...") Richard Ashcroft from The Verve.

Man, I can't imagine anyone disrespecting Joe (unless their initials were YJM) but I don't have the full story so I'm not taking any sides. Joe rocks and Chemical Brothers kick bott-bott. The end.

Ovation: Gruskada did include Home...

Ethn: what about LISF Circles?

Take out the intro and the TM version is nothing in comparison. The guitars are more intense, and the drums sound more "real" (because they are) but I go for Surfing version however. It's more haunting.

SWA Circles-4 TM Circles-4
