neil morgan - sounds sweet, I do wish I could have been there, but that video sounds great. Maybe when we meet up for some jamming you can show me your brilliance for real.

I'm seriously out of practice at the moment due to my amp breaking, and me automatically practising more on the piano, and composing on sibelius to make up. I think I better go practice now.

Oh yeah- anyone here a Stravinsky fan? I'm on a romantic and later art music voyage and am listening to petrouchka at the moment (also firebird, the rite of spring, symphony of psalms and pulcinella). Great stuff.

ibztone- you seem a bit confused- kilo means "a thousand of"- so 6khz is es exactly the same as 6000Hz or 6*10^3 Hz. It's like kilobytes are a thousand times bigger than a byte. Except that's very slightly different since a kilobyte is 1024 Bytes.

Hmm- anyway- hey everyone... i was on the winning side of a cricket match for the first time this season today :)

I have nothing to say.

OT

I quote from a science encyclopedia- " A child can detect frequencies from 20-20,000Hz. But a typical 60-year old can only hear sounds with frequencies up to about 12,000Hz."

now, ibztone, 20kHz is just a quicker way of saying 20,000Hz. In the same way as 5kg is just a quick way of saying 5,000g. Now what you referred to on a mixing console, or whatever it was, is just them shortening the term so they could label the control 1-10 instead of 1000 - 10000.

20Hz means there is a vibration, or pulse, whatever you want to call it, 20 times every second. 20kHz means there is a pulse or vibration 20,000 times every second. Out of this range, and most humans can't detect that anything at all is happening (with the ears) Whereas within this range, we will get an impression of whether it's a low timpani, a squeaky piccollo or a wailing electric guitar, due to the frequency and waveform of the sound.

5Hz is 5 times a second. 5kHz is 5,000 times a second. 5mHz is 5,000,000 times a second. 5 gigahertz is 5,000,000,000 times a second. 5 terahertz is 5,000,000,000,000 times a second. And i don't know any more above that, I admit. but using thigs like kHz is just a way of shortening things.

Ibztone, I don't really understand where you're coming from, what your background is, how old you are or what you're really trying to say, but I hope this has cleared it up. Hz, kHz and mHz are all the same scale.

mHz is millihertz, yes, MHz is megahertz, yes, you guys are right, I was wrong too, it's simply that MHz looked wrong in the font. I was thinking megahertz, i just wrote mHz. It was late at night.... Hey I probably got a D in AS Physics too... but heck I got lucky calculating Planck's Constant.... that's another story.

champagne- I'd love to hear this live, problem is it would be hard ot work on stage.... most of the riffs are played on an alternate guitar tuning (like sittin' round in many ways) . The solo, as I've said many times is sweet, I learnt it, except the really fast bit at the end... the other thing is, I don't think the middle section would fit very well into a live performance... lets face it, the most memorable bit of the song is the solo and the coda. Maybe Joe could play it as an outro to another song in G Mixolydian.

dargonchild- if you like instrumental music, both albums by liquid tension experiment are quality,- John Petrucci (guitar of Dream Theater) , Jordan Rudess (Keyboards of Dream Teater) and Mike Portnoy (Drums of DT) are all in the group, just a different bassist (also really good). So if you want to hear instrumental John Petrucci, LTE and LTE2 are great.

There was a football tournament at my college today, 5 a side. there were three groups of three teams, and the winner got through, along with the best loser from the three groups. My team lost our first game, and completely thrashed the second team, giving us a goal difference of +5. And a team with GD of -1 due to a complete cock up got through to the semifinal instead of us. So rude! And they wouldn't retract it even though they could see that they were wrong. Grrr. Still, Sports Relief won so that's the important thing.

(I scored 7 out of our 9 goals). So I'm not too unhappy. Our captain was completely mad (he didn't score any)

dragonchild- my name is "the local person" as a reference to the UK TV programme "The League of Gentlemen". And I feel fairly local around here, it's hard not to.

I was thinking earlier today how the last year has really swept by in satchland. It only feels a few weeks ago since LISF was released and it was a year or so. I mean we've had LISF, the G3 tour, the new studio album, the recording, plenty of visits from Joe, new site, new album- things have been really sweet.

Webcast sounds great... not as great as the live thing though..... a week today... (it's just gone midnight where I am)

The local person rides again....... (j/k, plum)

aah, at last I found a way to d/load off iuma- i've been getting 403 erros with getright, but I can finally do it now. I can finally hear Pete's redone Shanghai Interlude!

And I've figured out how to use Magix Music Studio Deluxe generation 5 (Emagic clone but works fine). On the other hand I have to write an essaycomparing Bach's Brandenburg Concerto no 4 in G major movement I with Tippett's Concerto for double string orchestra... isn't life fun?

tube strike??? Oh dear oh dear. Well I'm skipping college for the day to go so there shouldn't be a problem with the walking.... hope it's not tooooo far from Victoria... wouldn't it be sweet if the webcast was from London? What a souvenir that'd be... although I guess all those in San Fransisco on Jeff's birthday already know.

Out of interest.. are there any people here who were at any of the shows that the Time Machine Live songs were recorded at?

death cube k that is harsh man!

To the guy with the question about strumming openly a guitar with strings tuned on a, b, c, d, e, f, g

The chord would be er...errrr... (i'm going to chicken out) an inversion of C maj 13th

mr nick- yeah, it would be called different things by guitar players from classical theorists and stuff, they'd probably prefer calling it an inversion of G dominant 13th, since it has the tritone and the dominant. I just called it C major 13th cause it's a chord used in a satch song (devil's slide).

Webmaster - could I make a suggestion as to the mechanics of the forum that is linked in with T2J? Maybe it would work better if the topics were ordered with the ones most recently posted to at the top? Like for instance the forum over at guitar.com. I would personally be there all the time if I didn't have to go through pages of other stuff- I know there is set last message as read and everything but although that method works brilliantly for discussion on T2J I don't know if it is a perfect match for a multi topic, multithread forum.

anibur - i checked the tube's site and nothing is up there to say it's been called off- you'd be able to get the tube back since it ends at 8pm on thursday. but no good for getting there.

It sucks since my girlfriend was going to come with me but she doesn't fancy walking 6 miles from victoria station to get there plus walking up and down oxford street, and then standing up for 3 hours with loud music.

So that in mind- there's a large possibility that I'll have a spare ticket I can sell- I can't promise anything yet, but if anyone needs a ticket, do let me know, on here or by e-mail (use paul.huxley@ntlworld.com)

i'm really looking forward to the show on thursday, not just for the music and the joeness but cause i'll be able to meet lotsa you guys like anibur (OK, she's a gal rather than a guy, but here guy here is meant to encompass both genders), master yoda/neilio morgani and all the other guys i know from england but haven't recently talked about the gig.

Since I was the first person to put myself down as attending any gig on this tour on the website does that mean I get an aftershow pass?? pleeaseee.... well if i win it and my g/f isn't coming i'm sure it'll be a fierce debate as to who gets to go with me.... anyway the draw is coming up soon for who gets that pass, so good luck to everyone, and may the best fan win ;)

I need to work out what to get Joe... I'm trying to decide between getting him to sign a postcard which says "you look so sexy playing air guitar" and giving him the postcard... hmmm...

happy birthday joe!

neil m - the line from london to brighton which I am on only goes to a) London Victoria or b) King's Cross/London Bridge, I suppose that train may get me a bit closer, I'd have to check.

The problem with tube strikes in London is not so much that the tube is not running, but more that the buses and streets immediately become packed with commuters and tourists who have no other way of getting around- eg. al these people use buses, or taxis like you suggested. And here in England taxis are a lot more expensive than in say Toronto (so I'm assuming most north american cities are abbout the same)

Anyway, I'm not complaining I've got all day to get there..

no aftershow pass :(

It turns out that I have ONE SPARE TICKET for the Shepherd's bush empire gig on thursday... it's unreserved standing (at the front) so if you're interested, e-mail me as soon as possible at paul.huxley@ntlworld.com - I'm not going to be able to find a satch fan to go but maybe you know someone who you could take along- or if you just really want to be in standing at the front, e-mail me. paul.huxley@ntlworld.com

Is it just Joe? I believe Joe did a cover with the G3 guys last year, but if it's not a live recording, then it won't be joe, it'll be someone fairly obscure most likely.

funnily enough, yesterday was also my 17 1/3 birthday..... well, it's still today in America, but it's tomorrow in the UK. What on earth am I doing awake? Oh yeah, guitar practice.

It's come to my attention that Major Tom is amongst the most regular posters. Despite nearly every one of the posts being the same.

Thanks for the e-card anibur! I never imagined your name being anything other than anibur, so it was, well a shock to the system to find out you had a real name too....

Hill Groove rules. Listen to that sweet bass work at around 2 minutes!

Come on JSC1 man, let us know your thoughts on SBM!

clarky- it'd be good to meet up beforehand, im up for meeting all the regulars off this site- everyone be sure to say what you're gonna be wearing. I'll be wearing a black t-shirt with a flamenco dancer and guitarist which says ole! on it... i know it's not the most guitarry t-shirt in the world but it's the best i have. althoguh i'm planning on buying some merchandise, including a t-shirt if possible.

on 56k even in England you don't get any vision. Joe seems to have shuffled his songs round a touch from the first night's set list (as written by an online fan).

Anibur- don't worry, I wouldn't tell anyone. I'm afraid the aftershow pass winners have been selected and they're not you, me, neil morgan, clarky, phrygian dominant, nor any of the other english regulars on T2J. I guess it's the long wait afterwards....

I found the drummer in my band to go with me on thursday, he's heard a bit of Satriani, he likes Jeff Campitelli (not as much as Mike Portnoy or Chad Smith though, it seems) but he definitely likes him...

Is this a bass solo i hear???????? Can't wait to see this!!!!! i thought it was going o break out into love thing having heard stuu's one.... but man this is good.... can't wait for THURSDAY

aaaah Bongos!!!! what????? is this a drum solo?????? I'm going mad here!

Bass & Drum duet??? I can't believe this, this is cool as it gets! But I keep double checkign the streaming to check it hasn't got switched over to something else. And maybe some keyboards or something? So weird..... This is Paul Huxley reporting live from summer webcast 2002.

austin- i had a fine connection on the end of friends but i didn't recognise it as a cover- sounded great though - bear in mind that i';m not saying it wasn't a a cover, just that if it was, i didn't know what it was covering.

I cannot wait for Thursday. You may notice me typing here ever so lsightly more regularly at least until the gig...

I need a good tagline... yo, peace out, doodz! nah. are you local?

with regard to food, i'm planning on getting a local pizza company to deliver to the queue..... :p that's my plan anyway, therwise i just send the drummer off.. ;)

I'm not plannign to drop in at a pub though. For a start i'm under 18 (ooh how naughty that would be) and secondly i'm pretty small so i'm not risking a bad place on the unreserved standing/

A friend from college has suggested that I claim to be Satch's official tour hairdresser, and offer shaven head haircuts for rip-off prices in the queue to the gig... whadya reckon?

I had my hair cut nice and short today....not joe short though :(
