is anyone here going to the bournemouth gig?

you may or may not know that there are very limited train services after the gig'll be over (not to mention waiting around afterwards like crazed fans (don't wait too long for Fripp though...). I just thought I'd point that out to people as it's meant that one of my friends can't come...

anyone going for a drink beforehand? it's not long now....

grrr! for the first time ever i made the clicking on the wrong "post message" mistake. ah well

Neil - I said about fripp because he's not a fan of giving autographs and stuff... but he may well talk if i think about it.

I'm gouing down to Bournemouth with my drummer friend, Jason, the guy I was with at the last London gig. I'm sure we can meet up before- particularly given that it's all seated and they're allocated (eg. no queueing).

I listened to your soundclick track with recoil- nice stuff- I'd say more about it but I dloaded it elsewhere and can't here. Nice guitaring though...

Joe - thanks for posting all that stuff about If I could Fly - that is a great tune! As for G3, i agree totally with Clarky about doing a version of a King Crimson song- Starless and Bible Black or 21st Century Schizoid Man would be AMAZING. For your solo stuff I'd love to hear the title track, ITLIS, Searching, Bamboo, If I could fly for example.

Clarky - spot on with your jam choices...

Austin - thanks for putting all that stuff up for dload- just getting it all now- I've wanted toi hear/see hthis stuff for ages!

I had my first proper recording session- I was called in for a non-serious cover of Avril Lavigne - Sk8er Boi. Was really good fun, I ended up playing all the guitars bar one (inc. bass), and got free reign on solo... Tapping solos liven the thing up a load- had a load of sweet feedback from an OD pedal and a cranked Fender amp. Played slide guitar with the end of an XLR cable!

Anyway, it was great fun.

Neil - you going to be around Guildford next year? I'm gonna be writing a fat load of stuff in the spring for the courses I'm taking, which will all be recorded, and it'd be great if you'd be able to do a few sessions... i'm only in Guildford til a week today, so if you want to meet up and jam, that'd be top...

Great Musician's Friend interview!

I have to say I'm a little worried about the Gold/Platinum Packages... I know lots of people will pay for them and it will help fund things, and I also know that Joe is generous with his time, but I don't want it to stop him coming out afterwards or the aftershow winner passes- there are many younger fans, myself included who simply don't have the money but would be happy to queue 10 hours to get to the front of the venue. My only other feeling is that at British standing venues, I'd much prefer to keep standing/queuing than suddenly switch to chairs.

As for Sony putting extra songs on japanese versions, I have the perfect idea...

Joe's 2005 record to be a CONCEPT ALBUM :P Then Sony can't cut off the last track! Make that a double concept album...

How about this... 1 backstage pass per tour for every 100 useful posts on T2J ... this would mean that Austin would get 1 for every gig of a tour... hmm

People who shave their head before going to see him awarded backstage passes on the door?

do the stu-- hehe. I don't think it's particularly like Joe to suddenly ignore his less rich fans, it is a concern though. Interestingly, people who want to go in for the aftershow pass won't get the platinum tickets (they have to buy their own tickets first and what would the point be if they had platinum anyway) - do you see what I'm saying... it probably actually enhances the chances of getting an aftershow pass. Hmmm - I have to go to a concert with Megaboyd someday...

Big Brother 5 - UK .... oh dear is the term that comes to mind... this is what everyone was asking for for the last few years... and it's actually happening... and I'm frightened.

for those not in the know, they've basically put a load of extremist people with completely different views on things in a cramped environment where they have to share beds...

neil - £64 on CDs that you like? Which will influence your playing to come and turn you into a better musician/guitar player?

That's what I call an investment, not a waste ;)

a composer is one who composes... pretty simple really. anyone who constructs music...

frank zappa was a genius. the quantity of high quality material he put out is astonishing (about 2 records per year). He would write for any type of ensemble in any style and still sound the business. His lyrics ranged from disgusting to hilarious, as did his actions.

He was a very opinionated, but witty man. He picked up such immense talent to play in his band (recognising talent in others is a trademark of a genius).

yet he didn't connect with society quite in the same way as an average person. ask people when knew him if he was a gnius and they will say yes.

genius is massively overused these days. the only alive musician that i know of and think has a genius mindset is jordan rudess, but i may be wrong there.

There's nothing to be praised about being or not being a genius. Wagner was a genius but one of the most despisable men to have lived. it's not their fault they are a genius, and it's no-one else's fault that they aren't. A genius is not just a very clever person (apparently anyone with an IQ over 130 is a genius... i don't buy this), a genius is a completely different mindset...

There's my £50 (i'm a high-stakes rambler/gambler)...

Hmmm...

People who remember avarice may enjoy this... a similar project elsewhere... http://www.areyougullible.com/lukeburrage/juggling/bastard.html - Apologies for the millionth juggling related link i've made...

Although I didn't particularly enjoy avarice at the time, at least there was some excitement each time you logged on, and could see how he'd insulted you this time!

that france game last night was a joke....

i agree with clarky's view on this... as long as we win the other games in this group, we should win the tournament... and even if we go out in the first round, we can remember that france did that at the world cup last year, and everyone thinks they're amazing...

clarky- well, i was unable to see most of the first half, so i can only really comment on the second. i don't particularly subscribe to the "so and so deserved to win" etc. school, unless there's screwed up refereeing decisions. I'd say England deserved to win the first 89 minutes, because they did within the laws of the game. We had defended superbly, and France hadn't. Their attacks were often pretty random launches of the ball forward. In the 89th minute we gave them a get out of jail free card, however, and just later we landed on community chest and got sent straight to their hotel on mayfair. They won, and they played within the rules of the game, so yes they deserved to win. However we showed them that we can hold our own against france, and that we lost the game, not them winning it.

That's my take on England- the team that loses 2-1(after being 1-0 up) to the best teams in the world.

The protestant and catholic and whole church thing is pretty meaningless really (in terms of how they started) - it's how they are now that counts, and you will find plenty of good churches actively seeking the truth.

Clarky - like you said, 3-0... at least...

I got my results from uni today, for my first year... passed pretty easily- got 92 (first class being 70) on the science of sound exam!

jazzyboy- no need for that now, is there?

robert fripp is a great choice for G3. A *very* clever, witty, and funny man. listening to/watching "eyes wide open" on dvd inspires me massively... just like rite of spring, it both gives me a headache but gives me so much musical creativity. Listening to joe may make me think beautifully, listening to steve might make me want to practice guitar *a lot* and listening to dream theater may make me want to write in odd time signatures and scream high notes but listening to king crimson gives me the solid stuff. musical ideas.

soundscapes whould be a great warm up, yet leave me hungry for (and appreciative of) joe and steve. i will be applauding however much anyone else may boo.
