G3 Bournemouth - My drummer friend jason and I are leaving at about 12pm, and he thinks we'll get there around 4. then if other people are around we can meet up or whatever- we'll need to grab some food at some point.

jazzy- you're a quiet virtuoso with the opposite sex? So you don't make much noise?

The Santana racism comment was perhaps a little stupid. But it just might possibly possibly help the channels to reassess exactly what they put on tv.

G3 for Jools Holland...

hmm - name the tune

"you told me time and again you'd be over at ten but you're late"

Hint- can't construct a big building without them.

edit - it seems I missed my 800... ah well.

1000 by the end of the year!

great game last night!

962 - you really don't like ToT? fair enough really, particularly as you stated that you liked 6doit and IaW (both being more prog than metal, and Tot being more metal than prog). I think the last three tracks are really great DT, and like some of the riffs and stuff from the earlier tracks, but I do agree that those first 4 tracks aren't the best...

You prefer Stream of Consciousness or Dance of Eternity? I like Dance purely because of the keyboard solo, but I think SoC is better...

962 - dance of eternity is on Scenes From A Memory (metropolis pt. 2) - I just compare the two since they are instrumental and pretty heavy.

I agree in the liking of the more progressive rather than heavier stuff in general. And ToT isn't their best, but there are a few great songs on there - at least In The Name of God, purely for the keyboard outro... I love Jordan Rudess...

novjul - spot on with the 3rd G point. Everyone always has their favourite person for 3rd G, many's was Yngwie when Petrucci was doing it. but then he didn't behave that great at G3 so people want more classic guitarists like Jeff Beck, EVH instead. They get Robert Fripp who is great but on a completely different world. Hmm. I'm looking forward to hearing Fripp as I'm not familiar with his Soundscapes stuff (but am with his KC stuff). I'm pretty open musically (Stravinsky's my favourite composer, enough said) so I think I might just be blown away...

The surgical spirit - good rant... you can see above my (non)evperience of Soundscapes.

6-5 on penalties... cruel.

Portugal were the better side through the game and deserved to win, but we should have won. The goal should never have been disallowed and to use an old english saying - we was robbed.

Anyway, well done Portugal, let's just hope that France don't go and win it...

edit - without any offence to the france fans on the board... :P

sorry for a second post but it's about a totally different thing...

G3 guys! I mean - G3 Bournemouth guys (and/or girls)... clarky, neil, olly 962 all you who are going it'd be great to have some numbers. 962 if you have them, it'd be great if you could send them my way...

More importantly has anyone recorded a G3 gig this tour yet? Are any of you guys taking stuff? Let me know... mu32ph@surrey.ac.uk

seomen - welcome to the board.

Your post is fair enough, it's a well stated opinion. I'd also like to see Satch playing around with his set more. He and his team (Matt, Jeff, Galen) have enough skill to learn most if not all of Joes songs... why not vary the setlist a bit more from night to night (a la Dream Theater). Always play some new songs but surprise us...

I seem to remember Fripp's diary talking about how awful some of the venues have been for acoustics wohich would explain the loudness and lack of clarity. The performers have had some pretty bad mixes too though so you're not alone.

And I'm afraid earplugs are a reality for gigsters (who want their hearing in tact). Shell out the equivalent of £15 or so and you can get high quality reusable ones which have a little diaphragm in them to keep the sound the same but the volume lower. Shell out about £150 and you can have them molded to the shape of your ear...

then think how many people without earplugs there must have been. I'm going to have to work out how to protect my ears on sunday. I'm third row central, so hopefully i won't get too much of a blasting from front of house...

injector, plum loco - i'd say time machine cause the studio section of that was just a compilation of unreleased stuff, some from extremist, some from the joe satriani ep.

Engines of Creation was recorded at home in parts but so was SBM and ITSLIS? It is Joe's *studio* after all...

fripp did warn that that link was for those with a sense of humour...

Fripp simply posts the truth about how he feels. He isn't too egoistic to leave out bad gigs. He cares about the music and that is all. He knows that his music will have touched at least one person each night, however much booing there may or may not be. Let's give him a good time in Bournemouth guys!

962 - thanks for the e-mail... G3 Bournemouthers - any info to give me on recording the gig?

962 yeah - that's cause we're the sexy south....

The Guide (for Americans) to British place-names and their pronunciation...

Bournemouth - place where G3 is tomorrow night. Pronounced 'Born-muth' - that U is somewhere between the sound of o and u.

Sussex - county (a bit like state but a lot smaller) in which Master Yoda and I have our homes (pronunciation obvious). Not just windy (as in winding, not blowy) country lanes and old cottages here, although there are plenty of them. Home to Brighton, and The Guitar Amp & Keyboard Centre

Surrey - county which Master Y, Nick, and others who I've forgotten live during term-time. Home to the expensive Anderton's music shop (though they do let you try out their huge ashdown bass amps worth millions when you actually just want a practice amp). Pronounced like curry.

Worcestershire- (county) home of the sauce. Pronounced Wussed-urrr-sheer (like cheer but with sh sound). Don't know of any Satch fans here. Do correct me if I'm wrong.

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch - oh dear, don't make me start. Has a railway station...

g3 bournemouth - the morning after...

i'm going to write and post a review in the reviews section in a bit. it was cool meeting up with olly, simon, neil, clarky and co.

I started writing other stuff but realised it was just a review so I stopped! The review's now up...

Webmaster- is there anyway you can allow formatting on the gig reviews page? Everything always comes out as one paragraph and with large reviews it's a lot harder to read...

mr nick - either build your own site, or go to soundclick.com - it's pretty good there...

edit: olly or 962- one of you posted a gig reviewy thing where you mentioned the jam songs... just to explain the jam song red was the main riff to 'in the court of the crimson king' at the beginnign and end, but the rest of it was a slightly reworked version of red by king crimson - it wasn't a new track or anything...

JS JS - I read the Left Behind Books - good fun. There's actually a prequel and a sequel yet to come out so you have those to look forward to.

mikesb - you want us to put the toilet seat down and THEN aim?

962 - the stage was pretty big it just had loads of gear taking up most of it... There was loads further back that wasn't being used. The sound wasn't nearly as bad where I was. I could hear all the parts to everything except Tony MacAlpine (both keys and guitar). So I missed the lick of the night that neil and clarky have mentioned. The only bad thing was that the lead guitar was always a touch too loud, particularly in Vai's set. Cause when the jam came round, the guitars seemed to be randomly changing levels and it was pretty hard to make out what Fripp was doing. But I still noticed some lovely touches of his.

Personally, I really liked that arrangement of people for G3. If it had been standing, and I'd been front centre, it'd have beaten the 2002 london gig.

yoda - i guess you've tried guitar amp and keyboard centre? their website seems to be down at the moment though...

dave weiner - <lie mode>hey, i almost fell for him- those adorable eyes!</lie mode>

those at the bournemouth gig may be interested to know that www.weiner.com doesn't actually tell you anything about sausages of either kind. I didn't realise that his record was called "shove the sun aside" - that was scrolling all night on a module on top of his amp...

do the stu - i'm afraid i haven't heard of those movies... i know that they did a couple of left behind movies but that was more recent, and didn't have stuff about razors... if i find out i'll let you know... love the repetetive reading thing!

js js - yeah- 12 books out, 13 and 14 coming soonish.

My advice to you is to read them fairly slowly- I mean, I read 4 of them in 3 days and I don't think I enjoyed them quite as much because of it. Read them quickly if that's your style (it is mine), but then give yourself a break between them- you'll enjoy them more.

little miss townsend (was that your name - i may have forgotten - not a good start).

About the man to do his duty - i was just quoting some olf war propaganda... of course there are female fans here too, who are sadly in a minority. More girls for T2J... seriously, why should it be mostly guys who like Joe's stuff?

It sucks about having to get a third account and that... I have to admit I don't remember your old name on T2J but i have a dodgy memory. And Crybaby's are cool - apart from the Madonna song... my elder sisters used to sing it to me when I threw wobblies and cried...
