master yoda - on the Gm/Bb to Bb7 transition - I'd say that your German 7th here is a bunch of chromatic passing notes to the Am/D - play the sequence without the Bb7 and it fits perfectly- the German 6th merely adds flavour and tension to the sequence... which I like by the way :)

ibanez 89 - raspberry jam delta-v is a term from a book joe read (i'm sure austin will be able to provide the details and a link to amazon..) - delta v is a scientific term for change in velocity, i forget the exact context of the quote though...

Delfino Pie- you said... if you're talking about sitcoms only, here are my thoughts on those you mentioned

Fawlty Towers - definitely Only Fools And Horses - never particularly enjoyed or watched this Bottom - very funny at times, yes, possibly not in top 10 though Black Adder - yeah, this deserves a top 10 place Red Dwarf - probably also a top 10er though not as strong as some others... Men Behaving Badly - in the same class as Bottom... good but probably not top ten... The Young Ones - yeah... low in a top ten... Porridge - never particularly watched or liked.. Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps - how DARE you... this is truly awful (everything i've seen of it)... Coupling - good, can be very funny, yet to fully prove itself though...

Some suggestions... if you can include things like the office and i'm alan partridge in there, they have to be high. Yes Minister cannot be left out. Allo Allo is quality, and League of Gentlemen deserves a mention. Vicar of Dibley was very funny at times... Father Ted too...

olympics - great britain just got their first medal with a silver in men's synchronised diving - really cool little competition that - great to watch.

americans seem to be good at anything that doesn't involve working in a team (all individual events) but in team sports they are way lower... it seems that there is a high value on winning in america and getting the best for you... I think this leads to individual success rather than team success.

Great Britain however have great eams, just without much on the skill side. We're great at discussing weather though...

YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE, THIS IS AN ADVANCED WARNING

do not spend all your money in the coming weeks - for on August 31 Jordan Rudess (keyboardist in Dream Theater)'s new solo album comes out. So what? Well, Satriani plays guitar on one track, and there are some other great musicians on it. Keep back a bit of money for that one!

mr nick - radio 2 could be a lot worse than it is...

I don't listen to radio if I can avoid it though... like Jordan Rudess I don't like the pollution of musical ideas it provides. I'm just not interested in writing music that dull...

mr nick - like austin said, i'm a JR fan... though I could have phrased my sentence better- meant that in the same way as Jordan Rudess, I don't like listening to radio...

JR is one of my 3 favourite living musicians (along with Satch and Neal Morse)... a really great player.

yoda - shoot the guy who took that picture of you! i bet he did it deliberately as a joke...

the astoria's gay night is friday nights and i went to a gig on Nov 23rd 2003, which I believe was a Friday... with a gay guy... however, it was at the mean fiddler next door, and I didn't know he was gay- well, I wasn't sure...

it was Neal Morse (with Mike Portnoy special guest)... rocking gig... best I've been to (yes, beats Dream Theater, Satch and G3...)

do the stu - here only since 2000? that's when I started posting- I assumed that since you are omniscient (within the Satriani context) you would also be eternal (in the T2J context).

I think JS Clone 2 came in later- though JS Clone 1 (or BIGGEST JS FAN EVER as he once was called) was there first...

I've never wanted a malmsteen thing- in fact there's no real guitar I want at all right now... but I am saving up for a Chapman Grand Stick... if you don't know what that is, click here...

delfino pie - har har! everyone else who's answered your question on acid rain has it wrong i'm afraid. Acid Rain *is* on the DVD. Go to the tour photographs section and you'll find the entire performance of acid rain live being played over the top of it. But they're right in saying there's no video footage of it.

Oh, I feel like a DT boff. Do you like the audio commentary on the DVD? I love it...

Anyone else love naked gun here?

Jane - "..he had a moustache, about 6'3.." Frank Drebin - "that's an awfully big moustache"

From Naked Gun 2 1/2...

EVERYONE

Jordan Rudess' solo album Rhythm of Time is now available! One track features Joe Satriani..

Screaming Head is less metal and more rocked up jazz fusion with a slight funk feel. A basic riff lays the foundation for Rudess's keboard experimentations which see good use of the pitch wheel. The track does take a complete u turn for a dark gothic vibe before launching into the main melody once again. Guitar here comes courtesy of Joe Satriani and it has to be said his style of space age lead work is the perfect compliment to the track.

I thought it wasn't released for another few days but it's coming my way as soon as possible now!

killer bebop

Satriani and Vai are friends. They both admire each other's playing loads, and there's not the tiniest bit of hosility - neither should there be between satch and vai fans (many of us think they're both great).

Technically speaking I don't think there's anyone on this planet who can touch Vai. Some of his music I also love (most of Ultra Zone, the Fire Garden suite, a lot of P & W), but there's also a lot of stuff that really doesn't inspire me (eg. Alien Water Kiss)

I think like you Joe can play in pretty much any style and excel, whereas Vai just does a few styles very well. But I don't think Satch has the technique that Vai does.

Who cares? I don't... they're both *amazing* player who are amazing live.

TheBob - that was Robert Fripp who said that of Joe Satriani. But he was referring to the musical side of things rather than the technical.

Joe Satriani is famous for being an instrumental rock guitar player. So when he comes on stage, when he writes a new album, that is what is expected of him. Rock.

Of course he broke out of that mold with Engines of Creation, where in my opinion he produced some of his greatest work. Another of my favourite bits of his playing are in an old video from guitar.com where he goes through pitch axis in E...

Joe Satriani, playing in a relaxed environment without making himself play rock 'n roll is in my opinion what Fripp is talking about. And I'd love to see more of that personally :)

If you can avoid shopping online at Gak, you'll do yourself a lot of good. I've had about 4 orders from them and they've screwed up every one.
