Hi guys, not got much time to post, but GET JORDAN RUDESS' NEW ALBUM! it's a solo album and has got some really great material on it. 2 cool Satriani solos and some amazing guitar work from other guys too...

A must-buy...

962 and Do The Stu

Yeah, The album's called rhythm of time. I think it came to jordan as he wrote and recorded the album in 14 days nonstop- he was listening to all the rhythms as the time went by - if you know what Jordan's music is like, rhythm of time is a very suitable title for this album...

I've listened to it 3 times since i bought it yesterday... I loved some of the tracks on the first listen, but I'm certain that I'm gonna love this for a long time...

the Joe tracks...

Screaming Head - Fairly LTEish... think Kindred Spirits... joe's solo is cool...

Insectsamongous - Very Frank Zappa influenced, a superb track, one of my very favourite instrumentals already... Great use of sounds and a rocking solo by Joe, that's very much in the style of Jordan's keyboard solos... see if you agree...

Both the Satriani solos sound very much improvised- one of Satch's biggest strengths and weaknesses. Here it's a strength, since the other guitar solos seem really planned... see more bout that later.

There are a couple of vocal tracks on there too, one of which is a bit similar to Finally Free but with more interesting chords, and the other has got some lush vocal harmonies...

Buy it and enjoy it... there is superb guitar work all the way through, including some great solos from Jordan's stock guitarist on this record, somone called Daniel J... I prefer his soloing on this record to Petrucci's on the last...

austin - T2J fan cruise :P (anyone seen Cruise of the Gods? Good little programme that...)

Just been having the strangest thing going on. Was listening to a bootleg of Dream Theater playing Finally Free, and there's a guy drilling something next door. The tone of his electric drill kept on moving up and down in time to change with the harmony of the song I was listening to! For about 15 seconds, it was perfect... then the guy next door forgot what key who was in and played an A-natural...

hey michelle! pleased to meet you

brownbow - welcome to the site...

you need to download the latest version of itunes, once that's all working you need to access the itunes store, which you do through the program itself. Then you can buy and download the bonus tracks.

hey pikey

only one way to improve - more practice :) keep exercising that little finger and you'll get there. I personally find it one of my favourite fingers... there are some simple finger stretching and strengthening exercises on guitar.com which i've always gone over to get my fingers back in shape...

creative soloing

I don't play much guitar at all nowadays - loads of bass but very little chops-practising etc... but I still feel I have come along way in my soloing, cause when i need to record a guitar solo for a song, I'm a far more creative, musical player- not just playing boring pentatonics, or single note up and down a scale stuff... it's really encouraging to know that you can improve *without* practising ocasionally... having said that, my fingers are in better shape than ever from trying to play Dream Theater basslines....

ah... the tomfoolery!

clarky- good thoughts on planning and eq... i always try to negative eq too- positive eq adds distortion which although in some rigs may be nice, certainly isn't in mine.

recording distorted rhythm guitars in stereo and then hard panning sounds really fat if they're simple enough to get completely right and tight... a personal like of mine is recording acoustic guitars seperately and paaning them all the way into individual speakers... not neccessarily trying to even play the exact same part- it brings a nice warmth, richness and organic quality in... have them fairly low in the mix with bass and drums fairly high, a sprinkling of keys and a fair bit of guitar solo/voice... that's one my favourite sounds...

yeah, anyone sensible would back australia... england are getting good, no doubt about it, but australia are still the best. But I wouldn't *rule out* the possibility of an upset. Aus 111-2 off 24
